  1. What's the logic of color coding topics (light vs regular background) in the Introductions forum? It's neither that I have unread posts in a topic, or whether I'm subscribed, so what is it?
  2. What's the policy on necroing threads specifically in the Suggestions forum? Some suggestions are years old but I would still like to show my support for them. I've seen it mentioned around that sometimes, necroing makes sense, but I'd love to get a little more specific here.
Sidenote: Loved that a good chunk of them had tags like (already exists), (rejected), etc. on them! That's so useful to be able to see at a glance.
  3. Push notifications! I've definitely been on a page and seen a little blue-green toast notif in the bottom left corner of my screen about a news update during Epic Week; if that's not it, where did they live? And what's the timeline on them coming back?
  4. Is there a way to filter groups in the search as either IC or OOC? It seems like such an obvious toggle I can't help but think I'm overloooking it.
  5. Do people not like/use the search tool? I think it and the "renew ad" function is outstanding because (old man yells at cloud) I think bumping is irritating, as it by definition doesn't add anything new to a listing; I was so delighted to see such a detailed search function for RPs here, and fully expected bumping to be a thing of the distant past here.

Thanks for your time c:
The color coding in Introductions is to mark which topics are still new enough to count toward getting a friendship knot accolade.

I've never seen any particular policy about necro-ing threads here and occasionally see it happen in any area of the site. It would be difficult to form a policy about without defining an age range, too, and RPR tends to be a pretty relaxed-pace site, especially since a lot of stuff happens in groups or PMs rather than the general public areas.

I have no idea what the status on push notifications is. ^^; You also mention a different sort of notification the site has. But I still don't have answers handy.

I thought there was a pretty straightforward way of filtering IC/OOC groups, but when I checked, I didn't see what I thought I remembered. So I guess I don't have an answer handy for that, either.

There are people who use the search tool, but it does seem like it might be more common for folks to just scroll through the Looking For RP forum. ^^; I know I sometimes do because there's not anything specific I'm looking for, I'm just sort of "window shopping."

In case you haven't checked it out already, the Help database actually has quite a lot of info, some of which can only be found using the search.

Thanks for your reply c: I read through most of the Help database when I joined about a week ago; or, I read through the pages that are linked to other pages, so if some of it can only be found via the search tool, I might've missed it.

Hi! Just want to give some official moderator input on this. We don't have a policy against necroing old threads in the sense that it's universally allowed or disallowed. Rather, we look at a few things.

1. Is the topic and the new reply still relevant? If yes, then it's considered a continuation on the discussion at hand and since new and useful information is being contributed, it's fine to stay.

2. Is the OP still active/are they actually still looking for input? If a topic is very old to the point the OP's account no longer exists, or the OP is no longer interested in talking about whatever the topic was about, they may choose to have the thread locked and the newest comment removed if necessary. We have some threads by deleted users that are still active, but since participation of the OP isn't required for the topic at hand, it's still allowed. :)

3. Does your reply meet all the above and it doesn't break any general site rules? Then we have no reason to disallow it!

I hope that clears it up a bit for you. :)

I personally use the RP finder a lot when I'm looking for specific stuff! But we have the forums and the tool coexisting side-by-side because some people prefer to scroll through a list of topics instead. That does mean bumping still exists, even though the tool was intended in part to help remove the necessity for it.

Thank you for providing me with a sort of baseline for when necroing makes sense! I'm used to it being something you get put in the forum stocks for ^^ ;
