East Haven 15 miles

Kyle almost breathed a sigh of relief, he was starting to tire and his stomach had been growling for the past twenty minutes. He adjusted his grip on the classic Triumph T120R Bonneville he was riding and decided to stop off in the next town. He needed to rest, he'd been on the road for days and a good hot meal would work wonders.

It took about a quarter of an hour for him to reach the small town's limits, he'd been in no rush and the coastal road had been beautiful. As he arrived he coasted slowly through town, smiling at the small slice of Americana. This was very much his kind of place. Some of the locals looked a bit odd though. He shook his head, probably just the tiredness...

Looking around he saw a small a café with bunting up outside it, some kind of event. The name was "Sweet Enchantments" and he smiled a lop-sided smile as he parked his powerful machine. He stretched, unzipped his leather jacket then got off the bike and strolled a little stiffly at first towards the place. Pushing the door a little bell tinkled and the small grin surfaced again as he stepped inside. A Wolf-dog (he presumed) was lay on a large pet bed by the door opposite the counter. He leaned down with his hand open, the "dog" sniffed it then licked the heel of his hand. Kyle scratched his ears "Good boy" and looked around for the owner.

"Hey, hullo? Anyone there? Could I get some service?" He called.
Kyria (played by Stormiedayz)

Kyria spotted one of the brightly colored flyers fluttering against a lamp post near the shoreline, the corners tugged up by the ocean breeze. She tilted her head, reading the details with a soft smile blooming across her lips. A haven for supernatural beings? Witches, wolves, and vampires living in harmony by the sea? That sounded like something out of a dream—or maybe a memory from long before her fall to Earth.

She gently touched the edge of the flyer, eyes scanning the name at the bottom. Ravenna. Kyria had never met her, but she liked the energy that pulsed from the ink and parchment. Warm. Welcoming. Familiar in a way only something truly magical could be.

She straightened and took a step back, her wings tucked safely beneath her sundress for now. “A café with enchanted pastries and a wolf lounging in the office?” she murmured with a gleam in her eyes. “How could I not?”

It had been too long since she’d let herself just be—not chase after fallen relics or navigate complicated hearts. East Haven sounded like exactly the kind of mischief-laced peace she craved. Kyria would be there. With bells on. And probably asking for two of everything.

The soft clink of glass and a faint herbal aroma preceded her as she stepped out from behind the beaded curtain. Ravenna paused in the doorway, head tilted slightly as she studied the stranger in her shop. Sunlight from the window glinted off her white-blonde hair, which was braided loosely over one shoulder, a few silvery wisps escaping to frame her pale, porcelain face. Her cool gray eyes—the color of storm clouds over open sea—locked onto him, assessing, measuring.

“You’re not from around here,” she said, not as a question, but as a fact. Her voice was calm, smooth, like cream stirred into tea.

She moved with easy confidence behind the counter, her long skirt whispering across the worn floorboards. The wolf huffed from its bed, tail thudding softly once. Ravenna spared the creature a glance. “Takoda likes you,” she murmured, almost to herself. “That’s either very good... or very interesting.”

Turning back to Kyle, she offered the faintest curve of a smile. “You look like you’ve been riding too long and eating all the wrong kinds of food. Sit wherever you like—there’s stew on the stove and fresh blackberry pie cooling by the window. Coffee’s strong, tea’s stronger, and if you ask nicely, I might even enchant your toast.”

She leaned an elbow on the counter, head resting lightly on her hand. “So. Stranger on a Triumph rolls into East Haven and lands on my doorstep. What’s your name, traveler?”

Ravenna paused mid-stir as the wind shifted.

It wasn’t the ocean breeze that caught her attention—it was the whisper beneath it. Something old. Something celestial. A ripple in the wards she’d laced through the streets of East Haven like spider silk and seawater. Not a threat… no, nothing sharp or tainted. This presence was different. Gentle. Radiant.

She set the spoon down and closed her eyes for a moment, letting herself feel it fully.

Wings.

Hidden, but not severed. Pain softened by time. A soul born of starlight brushing against her coastal sanctuary like a tentative knock on a door left ajar.

Ravenna smiled faintly, wiping her hands on her apron before stepping out onto the café porch. Takoda stirred from his place near the threshold, ears perking, nose twitching in the salt-laced air.

“She’s coming,” Ravenna murmured, almost to herself.

He huffed in quiet agreement, as if he'd already known.

The little bell above the door would chime soon enough. And when it did, Ravenna would be ready—with rosewater scones, moon-blessed tea, and a quiet seat beneath the stained-glass window. Some guests came to Sweet Enchantments for warmth. Others, for a second chance. But this one?

This one felt like a story returning to its next chapter.

The bead curtain into what Kylee presumes was the kitchen store rattled and a very pale-skinned ash-blonde walked out. Kyle just stared quietly at her with his intense steel-grey eyes, his lop-sided grin coming easily to his face a he ran his fingers through short dark hair. She was cute, but the way she stared at him made him feel naked to his soul. The smile started to fade as she stared, then her pretty lips parted, making a statement, her voice as sweet as her face.

"Uh yeah, you got me. I'm certainly not." She made her way deliberately to the counter, he suddenly felt like he'd invaded, he'd heard about cliquey towns that didn't like outsiders before. He hoped that wasn't the case as he'd like to get to know this girl better. "Is that a problem?" There was no base in his voice, a genuine question, he could always move on... He heard the wolf dog get up and press its nose into his hand, he scratched its snout receiving a canine grumble of appreciation, she commented on it, her eyes still staring through him.

"Uh yeah, maybe he can recognise another lone wolf?" He ran his fingers through his hair, he felt uncomfortable. The girl made him nervous, no one made him nervous usually. Finally she cracked a smile and it was like the sun shining through the clouds. She was really pretty when she smiled and it travelled up to her storm grey eyes, his own smile returned.

"You're right, I've been on the road for weeks, eating in greasy-spoons and diners. I could sure go for pie, but stew sounds amazing. Strong tea please and yeah sure why not?" He of course thought she was joking about the enchantment. She leaned on the counter and he could smell her perfume, subtle and pretty, he closed his eyes briefly just breathing her in.

"Ha, you know your bikes. I'm Kyle. Kyle Renner, so I know his name." He indicated Takoda with a thumb, "But what should I call you?"

Her gaze lingered for a moment longer, as if weighing his soul in the same way most people weighed fruit at the market. Then, slowly, her lips curved—not in mockery, not quite—but in understanding. The warmth in it softened her entire expression.

“You can call me Ravenna,” she said, her voice low, melodic. “Though people around here tend to whisper it like a spell.” A pause, then a light shrug. “Old habits die hard in a town like this.”

She turned, moving toward the counter’s small service window where the scent of simmering stew drifted in rich spirals. “And I don’t mind outsiders, Kyle Renner. So long as they don’t come looking to burn down what they don’t understand.”

The words were casual, but they rang with something deeper. Not a threat. A boundary.

Takoda, content with the introduction, circled once and returned to his place by the door, tail flicking against the floor in a slow rhythm. Ravenna set about ladling stew into a wide ceramic bowl, then pulled down a jar of tea leaves from the shelf behind her—lavender, cinnamon, and a little something he wouldn’t be able to name.

“I wasn’t joking about the enchantment,” she added with a glance over her shoulder. “But don’t worry, this one’s for strength. You’ll need it. Roads like yours rarely end where you think they will.”

She brought the bowl, a thick slice of buttered bread, and a steaming mug to his table, placing them down with a gentle clink of pottery. Then she tilted her head, curious. “What are you running from, lone wolf?”

She wasn’t prying. Not really. It was more like she already knew there was something—and was giving him the choice to speak it aloud.

"Rah-ven-nah." He ran his mouth slowly over her name. "That's an unusual but pretty name." He just nodded as she made aspersions about her witchiness. He didn't change his expression, she had a whole new age white witch thing going on, it was common in the sticks. Hell he was a walking cliché himself, who was he to judge?

"Just Kyle, but don't worry I'm not here to cause trouble, quite the opposite, just looking to get a decent meal, maybe a bath and warm bed for a few nights. Trouble is pretty far from my mind."

He turned his head and watched the wolf dog circle back to his bed and lay down, watching him curiously with its feral wolfy eyes. Kyle was starting to wonder if it was just a wolf actually. Seemed tame enough anyway. He turned back as she spoke about her "enchantments" watching her as she put a finishing touch on his meal. He put the bowl, plate and cup on a tray and picked it up.

"Well I'm thankful, a bit of strength will go a long way." He put the tray down as she asked what he was running from, suddenly his steely eyes had an intensity that matched her own. Like a god of old confronting the storm with a sword in hand. But he answered her anyway as he held her intense gaze, the half-smile returning.

"I didn't say I was running from anything. I dunno, maybe I am? But I'd say perhaps I'm looking for a new pack to run with. Maybe I just like running?"

He picked up the tray and moved to the small seating area, picking a table with quite a pretty floral table cloth. He smelled the stew and it did smell delicious. He started to tuck in with gusto, feeling it warm all the way down.

"This is really good!" He called over.

Ravenna leaned lightly on the counter again, her gray eyes narrowing slightly—not unkindly, but like someone watching for the truth between words.

“Well, Just Kyle,” she echoed, voice touched with dry amusement. “I’ve heard worse intentions. You’ve got the look of someone who needs a warm bed, but the kind who rarely stays in one place long enough to get comfortable.”

She turned toward the shelves, reaching for a jar of honey and a second mug—because something told her this one might need a refill. Behind her, Takoda remained sprawled on his bed by the door, head resting on his paws but eyes—piercing, glacial blue—still locked on Kyle. Watching. Not with suspicion. With interest. With understanding.

At his comment about looking for a new pack, Ravenna’s brow arched ever so slightly.

“Running to something, then.” Her voice had softened now, more thoughtful than teasing. “That’s not so bad. Everyone needs somewhere to belong, even if they don’t say it out loud.”

She watched him move, watched him choose the table with the little roses embroidered in the corners. That made her smile again—half-hidden, crooked, but genuine.

When he called out his praise, she stepped out from behind the counter, carrying the honey and extra napkin, her steps slow and measured.

“I don’t serve anything less than good,” she said with a wink, setting the napkin on his table and sliding the honey his way. “Though I’d be careful about compliments in here. The tea has a way of listening—and pie tends to show off when praised.”

She tucked a strand of pale hair behind one ear. “How long were you planning to stay in East Haven, Kyle Renner?”

The unspoken suggestion hung there in the sea salt air: Or are you waiting to see if it’ll let you stay?
Kyle Renner (played by Capricious)

"You're right, everyone does I guess. I'm still looking for mine - almost running out of America to find it in though." He scooped a few more mouthfuls of stew in then tore off a chunk of the homemade bread and dipped it in the sauce, popping it hungrily into his mouth.

He chuckled at her saying the food and drink had a life of its own and watched her as she walked over, her skirt swishing as she walked. A little impractical for a café but he liked the way she dressed, it certainly suited her. The whole place suited her, girlie but also a little eldritch. It would've made a nice theme café in a big city. He nodded as she bragged about her food, she had every right to it was the best food he'd eaten in well... For a very long time.

She tucked her hair behind her ear, a girlie, flirty little gesture that he didn't miss as she stood before him and put a pot of honey on the table, making sure to put a napkin down first.

He stretched hi leg out under the table and straightened it, pushing the chair out with a booted foot.

"Tell you what Ravenna. As it's so quiet in here at the moment how about you let me monopolise your time and I'll tell you all about my adventures and how long I intend to stay, and maybe you can tell me about this place. Maybe a little about you? I'd like that."

Ravenna regarded him for a heartbeat longer, her expression unreadable, the only sound between them the gentle bubbling from the kitchen and the quiet hum of Takoda’s breathing. Then, one corner of her mouth twitched upward.

“Well,” she said, smoothing the folds of her inky skirt as she sank gracefully into the chair opposite him, “since you asked so nicely—and flattered both my stew and my décor—I suppose I can spare a few minutes.”

Up close, her perfume was even more layered. Not floral. Something earthier. Smoke and lavender. Warm cedar and something older—unplaceable but oddly comforting. Like a scent remembered from a dream.

She leaned back in the chair, legs crossed beneath the table, and rested one elbow lazily on its edge. “You're lucky, Kyle Renner. The spirits are quiet today, and no one’s hexed their ex in nearly a week. That counts as peaceful around here.”

At his offer to tell stories, she gave a slow blink, like a cat deciding whether the mouse before her was charming or just another wanderer with a smooth tongue.

“You want my story?” she asked, voice low, curious. “Not many stick around long enough to ask. Most think this place is a gimmick, or I’m a bored goth girl who got too into Pinterest.” She lifted her mug, her gray eyes steady on his. “But I’ll make you a deal: you tell me one true thing about yourself—something real, not rehearsed—and I’ll do the same.”

Takoda shifted just then, his blue eyes flicking between them, as if he too awaited the answer.

“Sound fair?” she added, her tone light. But her gaze didn’t waver.
Kyle Renner (played by Capricious)

His smile was now genuine, clearly pleased that this delightful of a little extravagant girl had joined him, this close her perfume washed over him, he loved the smell of a woman and her smell was warming ad comforting. A little sweetness, a little spice, something else he couldn't place too. She talked of spirits as he took another mouthful. She was really into this occult stuff.

"Well I'm thankful for that, last spirit I met was called Jack and gave me a hangover."

He chuckled as she spouted off pretty much everything he had assumed she was, like she could read his mind or perhaps she'd just heard it too many times. He just nodded and ate as she spoke. The "bored goth girl" statement almost made him choke.

"Okay, okay - sounds fair to me." He felt her eyes now, intense fully listening, the wolf had perked up too. He responded from the heart.

"This jacket. It's not mine, not really - it was given to me by a man who passed a couple of months ago. He was a good man, if a little off the tracks. Well that man made me trust people again, put faith in humanity back into me. I guess I was looking for a father figure, in him I found it."

He finished off the stew and mopped it up with the bread, letting silence hang in the air between him and this beautiful if a little unusual girl for a few long seconds. Unsure why he'd opened up to her, he rarely let anyone inside his armour.

"Real enough?"
