Jane Harper (played by jennaisante)

Jane was still beaming with joy. Her happiness radiating from the thrill of successfully dunking Samuel into the dunk tank. The excitement was still coursing through her veins as she jumped around and reveling in her triumph. Just as she was basking in the glory of her achievement, she suddenly felt a gentle tickle on her ribs. The sensation made her flinch and wince slightly and she let out a playful protest. "Hey!"

However, her expression changed dramatically when she saw that it was Benji who had tickled her. Her initial annoyance gave way to a wide grin and she couldn't help but laugh out loud. "Oh, that's you Benji! Did you see that? I'm awesome. Hahaha! That's for my bestie, Sophie!" she said, still chuckling with glee.

As if on cue, Sophia appeared between them, as if summoned by Jane's mention. "Oh, speak of the devil! You're here Sophia," Jane exclaimed, her face lighting up with a warm smile at the sight of her best friend. She was delighted to see Sophia and Benjamin around and her joy was palpable. "This event was fun!" she said. her enthusiasm evident in her voice.

As Sophia and Benjamin took their turn to throw the balls at the target, Jane stepped aside and watching with interest. When both of them missed, she let out a mock agonized cheer, teasing them good-naturedly. "Awww! You guys missed!"

Sophia then made a sudden request, asking both her and Jane to be volunteers for the dunk tank. Jane raised an eyebrow, intrigued by the suggestion. "Eh? You want to go get dunked? Well, I will follow you," she said, a mischievous grin spreading across her face. She then walked over to Abigail. "Hello, Miss. Is it okay if my friend and I are the volunteers, but we sit in the same dunk? So, it's like hitting two birds with one stone?" Jane asked, hoping that Abigail would understand her request. She wasn't sure if she had used the correct idiom, but she was eager to find out if it was possible for her and Sophia to be dunked together.
Abigail Beckett (played by Dawnia) Topic Starter

Abigail clapped and cheered the blonde woman who came up to have a throw. Red was checking her out as she fished around for a dollar, and he handed her a ball when she found one. "Heya! Ready to cool off some mayhaps?"

Abi smiled. "Sure, give it your best!" She closed her eyes when the blonde let her pitch go, for from her angle it looked like it might be on track to plunge her. But she threw a sinker and the bottom dropped out as it got close and hit the backstop directly below the button, making a nice 'whack' sound and rolling back toward Red.

"Aww.... thanks for playing!" Abi called out as the blonde turned and wandered away with a shrug.

Abi then saw the two women who had been chatting come walking over to the side of her tank and she tensed, thinking one of them was going to dart out and slap the bottom with their hand. instead, the shorter girl asked her, "Hello, Miss. Is it okay if my friend and I are the volunteers, but we sit in the same dunk? So, it's like hitting two birds with one stone?"

Abi smiled. So far, she had only gotten her feet wet from kicking at the water below her. Being she wasn't generating much activity, having the two women volunteer to be up here may garner some interest from their friends. "So, you both want to sit up here and maybe get dunked? Sure!"

Abi was quick to scoot over and turn and climb down the ladder at the back of the tank, satisfied with not getting any more wet than her feet and some oversplash from when Samuel went down. She came up to the two women and turned with her hand out. "Tank #1 is all yours! One of you will have to sit on the other's lap I think as they are only made for one."

Leaving the two girls to get themselves sorted, Abi went over to relieve Red from the desk. "Alright, we have a two for one deal on tank one! Come get your balls to try and sink them, or any of the others! Also, if there are any more volunteers, I'm sure Sam and Ethan will like to get down. Melody, if another girl volunteers, do you want to give up your seat?"

Abi was thinking maybe a change in targets would get more interest generated ...
Sophia (played anonymously)

"Yay!" Sophia said with a strange enthusiasm. It wasn't that she expected to get dunked, it was more about spending time with Jane doing this! "I'll go up first and you follow as it looks like you're sitting on my lap."

Sophia was about to head up, but first she pulled a crumpled dollar out of a small pocket of her sundress and handed it to Abigail. "Thank you for letting Jane and I do this! I just want to take a shot at Samuel before I go up and he comes down."

Sophia ran over and cheated a little and got closer by stepping over the line and let the ball go.

It was nearly on target... in fact it hit the button on the edge, It just wasn't enough to trip the latch. "Damn. You lucky Sammy!" She pointed to her ex and moved her thumb a couple times as she walked back to where Jane stood. "Well, with that sort of luck, I doubt we'll get dunked Jane!"

Sophie ran past Jane and climbed up the ladder to get situated on the seat, moving to one side a little so Jane could step on and sit on her lap. Jane hadn't yet got up there but Sophia was already calling out to try and get people to come try and dunk them.

"Hey Ethan, I'm going to throw one last ball at you before I go. If you want you can come by the pavilion where I will be doing a remote radio show segment playing 1960s surfer music!"

She went over to Abi and gave her four quarters that were jingling in her pocket and got a ball to throw. She paused and watched the two women getting on tank one and thought they would have been fun to throw at, but she had to go.

Lining up in front of tank 4, she hoped to dunk the hot guy one more time...

*Winds up and throws the softball fast underhanded...*

*thunk*

"Hmm... not even close. Anyway, come see me!" she waved at Ethan, then to Melody, Samuel, and the two women climbing around on each other trying to get situated. "Bye Abigail! Thanks for organizing this!"

Marionne then turned and started walking toward the pavilion. She would grab a burrito along the way for her lunch/dinner...

Summer Charlesford (played anonymously)

Summer had stepped back and was on her phone texting with her friends, and would looked up and cheer and clap when someone made a throw. She then sighed and texted Scott again... 'hey scotty, where RU?'

Sending it, there were no dots forthcoming and she looked around the immediate crowd before watching the two girls getting ready to be dunked together. If Scott ever showed up, maybe they could do a similar double-dip? Maybe. She was hoping they could finish with this fair and have a wander on the beach before it got too late.

Going over to Abigail, she laid down a dollar for a ball as she asked, She was going to volunteer both herself and Scotty to sit on a dunk tank, but she didn't because she really wanted to head to the beach. She instead took her ball and aimed for Melody who looked like she was getting bored.

... throw...

Dang girl, you are so lucky!" she said to Melody after her ball hit just to the side of the button.

Melody Chambers (played anonymously)

“Dang girl, you are so lucky!" Summer said to Melody after her ball hit just to the side of the button.

Melody looked up when the ball hit. She was daydreaming and wasn’t paying attention, but grinned at the miss. “Yeah, I have the most ‘misses’…” Melody started calculating in her head but paused to wave to Marionne as she left.

“I think I have four misses out of four balls thrown!” Melody blinked her eyes as she calculated the others. “Sam had four balls thrown with three misses and a hit; Ethan had three balls thrown with two misses and a hit; and Abigail had one ball thrown with one miss.”

Glancing over at the two girls getting on tank one, she smiled at them. She was sure she had seen them around the USC campus. She would have to make it a point to go talk to them when they were done being targets.
Jane Harper (played by jennaisante)

With Abigail signaling that they could take turns sitting on the number one dunk tank, Jane’s face lit up with a bright grin when she saw Sophia step up first, then glance over at her with a playful smirk. Jane could hardly hold back her excitement, though she hadn’t really planned to participate at first, now she was eager to jump right in. “I wasn’t even expecting to do this,” she said, “But maybe a little dunk is just what we need to beat the heat this summer!”

As Sophia took her turn, Jane watched her. Then, she confidently stepped forward herself, gingerly climbing onto the dunk tank seat. Jane couldn’t help but feel her nerves beginning to set in. She looked at the water below and wondered if anyone would actually hit the target and dunk them both. She imagined the splash, the cold water drenching her unexpectedly and a shiver of nervousness ran down her spine. The thought that she and Sophia might get soaked together made her laugh nervously, clutching the sides of the tank a little tighter.

Now crumpled on the seat, Jane's heart pounded a little faster with each passing second, her mind racing with what-ifs. What if no one dared to try? What if they missed completely and made a fool of themselves? She knew the risk was small but felt the thrill all the same. She tilted her head back and joked aloud, “Let’s see if anyone will actually dunk us.” Then, without warning, she sat back slightly and gently rested on Sophia’s lap.
Sophia (played anonymously)

Sophia giggled as Melody recited statistics on the throws that had been made. Looking past Samuel, she said loudly, “Don’t worry, I’m sure there is a well-thrown ball just waiting to dunk you!”

She then turned her head to watch Jane climb up, and scooted over as far as the seat allowed, and got herself situated as best she could as Jane worked out how to best position herself.

Whats-App-Image-2024-09-24-at-5-39-36-PM-removebg-preview-removebg-preview.jpg“This is so fun!” she quipped as Jane turned around and sat partially on what was left of the seat and on her lap. “You know, I didn’t give thought about getting soaked in our clothes. It is quite warm out though so I think we can drip-dry?”

Adjusting herself and shifting a little, the two best friends leaned their heads together as Sophia called out loudly, “Come on people! Come sink us!”

Sophia’s arm snaked around Jane and came to rest on her hip. “This may be the last chance to drench the up-and coming fashion designer Jane Harper!”
Scott Smith (played by Blues-Guy)

Scott had been goofing around in the 'Science and Technology' building and had ignored the buzzing phone in his jeans pocket. He did realize after playing on a gyro that he was late meeting his fiancée. He checked the messages and read...

'Hey Scott, where are you? I'm going to throw balls at Sammy'

Scott scrunched his face as he reread the somewhat cryptic message. Why would she be throwing balls at his little brother? He left the Science and Technology building through the 'Hall of Illusions' and was wandering around looking for Summer. He was just thinking of texting her to ask where she was when he saw her distinctive stance from behind. He was quietly walking up behind her to surprise her when she sent a text...

'hey scotty, where RU?'

The vibration of his phone in his pants pocket threw Scott of just as he was about to goose Summer; surprising him and making him jump. This startled Summer who greeted him with an elbow in the ribs. "You found me! Now I see what you meant about throwing balls at Sam."

He gave his little brother a wave. "I guess I should buy us a couple balls to throw then!" Giving Summer a quick kiss, he went over and lay down a couple dollars, giving Abigail a mischievous look. "One for me and one for my sweetie."

He collected the balls and tossed one to Summer as he lined up at tank one. "I can't resist trying to dunk you two!" he said as he let a pitch go toward the target ...

The ball hit with force but it was inches away from the trigger. "Darn it. I can do better than that."

Summer jumped when Scott came up behind her. it seemed he was startled himself, and Summer moved to his side and elbowed him. "About time you got here! I was going to volunteer you but it's getting pretty late. She gave him a light slap on the arm as he went to get some balls. She was quick to catch the one he tossed to her.

"So... the both of you; Samuel again; dry Melody; or Ethan the surfer... sorry girls... I cant resist a chance to put you both in the drink."

Summer wound up and threw the ball the best she could...

"aww... it looked like it was tracking right for the button but fell off at the end."

Garrett Grant (played anonymously)

Garrett came walking by when the blonde gave a ball a toss at the two women on the dunk tank. He recognized the one in the yellow sundress from the frat party a while back and grinned.

"Hey ... Sophia, right? I cant pass up a chance seeing you soaked!" Garrett laid down a few bucks for a few tries at dunking some of these people. Sophia especially, but also her cute friend sitting on her lap!

Stepping to the line, he eyed the target button. as he threw the ball up a little and caught it. He finally let a throw fly...

"Aw man! That hit the button! It just didn't unlatch. He faked running up to slap the button to see if it was working but the fit woman taking the money gave him a 'dont you dare' eye.

"I'll get you Sophia... I promise!"

Jane Harper (played by jennaisante)

Sophia’s idea to make everyone try to dunk them added an extra layer of fun to the event. Her plan was simple but effective as she and Jane already sit together on the cramped seat of the dunk tank, eagerly waiting for someone to hit the target and send them splashing into the cool water below. The idea sparked anticipation in Jane that she hadn’t expected; the noise of shouts and laughter around her only made the moment more exciting. She was grateful for Sophia’s quick thinking, knowing that sitting side by side was the best way to enjoy the activity and keep each other company during the wait. The small space of the tank seat was tight and a little uncomfortable, but Jane didn’t mind. It only added to the thrill of the game, the fear of getting dunked making it even more amusing.

As the crowd grew larger, Jane started watching out for faces she recognized. Her eyes caught a man approaching who bore a resemblance to Samuel, though she wasn’t quite sure. She hesitated for a moment before whispering softly to Sophia, “Is that Sam's brother?” Her voice was quiet enough to avoid drawing attention. Before she could get an answer, Scott already took a shot. He threw the ball with confidence, aiming right at the target. The ball was quick, but somehow, luck was on their side... Scott missed! Jane burst into laughter, the sound bright and carefree. She clapped her hands and called out, “Nice try, man!” her voice full of playful encouragement. Her excitement only grew as she realized how often the targets kept missing, adding to the unpredictable fun.

Just moments before Scott’s turn, Summer had taken her chance to dunk them as well. She threw a ball with a broad grin, aiming carefully but still missing the spot. “You were close, sister!” Jane teased, still giggling from the ongoing streak of misses. Her eyes sparkled with amusement, loving how the game kept surprising everyone. The crowd grew louder as another man stepped forward, clearly knowing Sophia, judging by the friendly look he gave her. He lobbed a ball with a bit more confidence, but once again, it missed. Jane watched with a mix of amusement and amazement, marveling at how luck seemed to favor them. “Wow! How lucky are we?” she joked to Sophia, giving her a wide grin as they sat there, the bright sun beating down.

The heat started to become a real problem, turning the fun into a test of patience. Summer’s scorching rays made Jane realize they would need to get wet soon if they didn’t want to turn into roasted marshmallows in the middle of the park....
The familiar voice of a woman Natasha recognized sharply pulled her attention away from her skateboarding and the lively scene at the park’s dunk tank. She had already been wandering around for a while, just soaking up the casual vibe of the gathering, watching crowd giggle as they tried to knock over the target, the splash of water, the hum of excited chatter. She wasn’t really interested in the crowds or the games; her focus was drifting, almost aimlessly. But then she caught the voice again and it made her pause.

Her gaze swept toward the crowd gathered around the dunk tank, and her heart skipped a beat. There she was, Jane. Natasha knew Jane, even if their worlds rarely crossed outside the campus. Jane belonged to the fashion department, always busy stitching and sewing, designing clothes with an eye for detail that Natasha could never quite match. Natasha, on the other hand, was in the business class under Professor Han, often skipping classes but still passing. They shared some moments while ago, especially when Natasha asked Jane to sing for their band Watermelon Sugar. Yeah, the name was bizarre, thanks to Holland’s wild sense of humor who thought naming a band after a fruit was cool? Not many, but they had fun with it. Truth be told, they weren’t serious about becoming famous or making it big. The band was just a hobby for them, something to pass the time and jam on weekends. Natasha played drums, keeping the beat steady and simple. Holland was the lead guitarist, always willing to shred a riff on a whim, while Lyra, despite pretending she hated it, was stuck on keyboard duty because nobody else wanted to. Lyra was talented but clearly annoyed by the role; still, she always played better than anyone else could.

Jane had come to their rehearsals a handful of times, lending her voice to a song or two. But she wasn’t a regular. Her schedule was packed, and her attendance was sporadic, which made perfect sense. She was involved in the fashion world, a demanding industry that kept her busy from morning to night with fittings, fabric choices, and photoshoots. It was a world where every stitch, every cut, mattered; one that required her full attention. That’s why seeing Jane here, in this casual setting, was a little surprising.

Natasha sheathed her skateboard, tucking it under her arm as she approached the crowd. She was about to say something when she saw Jane laughing softly, her face bright with amusement. “Hey, Jane. Been a while,” Natasha greeted, offering a friendly smile. Her eyes flicked around, noting Sophia nearby. Sometimes she’d spot Jane with Sophia, other times with Jared or Benjamin, a tight-knit group that moved through the campus like a small circle of friends bound by common interests. She wondered if she had seen Melody somewhere, even in her scattered memory though she couldn’t place her precisely. Still, she knew Melody was part of their campus, or at least connected somehow.

Reaching into her pocket, Natasha pulled out a dollar bill, ready to spend it on the dunk tank game. She handed it over to the person managing the booth, who handed her a ball. She took the ball in her hand, feeling its smooth plastic surface, then looked toward the target. She wasn’t especially eager to try her luck, but it was all in good fun. A little challenge to beat the odds.

“Alright, let’s see if luck’s on my side,” she muttered, more to herself than anyone else. She positioned herself, focused on the target, and threw the ball with a casual flick of her wrist. And sadly, it missed the spot.

Sophia (played anonymously)

“Yes, that is Samuel’s big brother, and Summer is his girlfriend.” Sophia said by Jane’s ear as she shifted Jane more onto her lap so they weren’t close to the edges should the seat drop out from under them. “I can’t believe how close these throws are getting!”

Summer’s throw was close, and Scott’s throw actually hit the edge of the button but didn’t dunk them. When a familiar guy approached and got a ball saying her name, she got a puzzled look for a moment before grinning. “Hey you… the guy by the beer keg… Gary? No, Garrett!” Sophia could picture him there at the frat party now.

“Ha-ha! You missed!” she exclaimed after his throw bumped the button as well. “We are so lucky, but it getting hot up here!”

Sophia then saw another girl come up and get a 🥎 ball. She had been li Bering around the fringes of the dunk tank and now was stepping up to throw…

“Come on, do it!” Sophia challenged the girl. With four legs hanging down and wrapping around each other, Sophia and Jane kicked at the surface of the water a little to try and splash the girl to distract her.

”Ha! We are invincible!” Soph cried out as her throw was spot on but didn’t have the force to trip the latch.
Erica (played anonymously)

Erica had been busking with her acoustic guitar around the fairgrounds for much of the day, and she finally put her guitar away and went and got a hotdog. As she walked around eating it, she heard some cheers and talking coming from a dunktank event, so she walked over to observe.

She had been out of the city for some time as she backpacked through Europe and had just recently returned. As she walked up, she saw Natasha Willowna throwing a ball trying to dunk two women. She shouldered up to Natasha after her failed toss and said, “Hey you, it’s been a while since we jammed! How have you been?”

She put her finger up and added, “One sec… I want to try this.” Erica went over to the desk and put down a bunch of change she had collected in her guitar base while playing and got a ball. She looked to the woman running the event… Abigail her name tag said… and said, “I’ll leave my guitar here while I throw.”

Stepping back, she saw four possible targets, but it was clear the two women were attracting the throws. Unsure who to throw at, she tossed the ball up a few times trying to decide her target… “Well, here goes nothing…

- - -

She decided to dunk the two women at the last second, but her throw was off just a little. “Sorry… you two are looking a little sweaty so thought I’d help by sinking you two.”

She should probably go buy some more balls, but she did want to talk to Natasha and catch up on what she has been doing…

Samuel Smith (played by Blues-Guy)

Sam slid himself off the seat and dropped into the water to cool off before climbing out. "Sorry Abigail, I'm done; I need a drink." He reached into a Coleman that was under the desk and pulled out a bottle of water and downed half of it. Taking his stuff out of a lockbox Abigail had them put their stuff in, Sam gave her a buck and got a ball.

"Ok Jane Harper, it's time for payback. Sof, you an added extra bonus..."

"Well... that was a total miss."

Abigail Beckett (played by Dawnia) Topic Starter

Abigail clapped her hands and picked up a megaphone to make an announcement...

"Alright! It seems the dunk gods are on the side of the dunkees! It appears the two women who doubled up on tank one in their street clothes are drawing a lot if interest! Samuel had decided he has had enough and has climbed down and tried to dunk the woman who successfully dunked him! Melody is a stalwart on tank 3 and has remained dry the whole time. Ethan on tank 4 did get dunked but seems to be relaxing now."

Avigail turned her head and took a drink of water before continuing on... "Since it is getting later in the day, anyone who wants to throw can have three pitches (3x D20)! We will be closing down as the sun sets so get your throws in now everyone!"

Abi set the megaphone down and turned to Samuel. "Watch the desk for a minute." She then took a ball and ran over and pitched it at Melody on tank 3...

*Thwang*

"No way! That hit! What is it with these sticky target buttons?" Abi shook her head as she went back to the desk. "You are lucky Melody! Somebody sink that girl!"

Ethan Rameriz (played anonymously)

Ethan put his hand up and waved when Abigail mentioned him. "I have to get down. My butt is sore." he called out before sliding over to the ladder and climbing down. He gave everyone a wave as he collected his stuff and headed off to the pavilion to check out Marionne on the air.

(It's been fun!)
Melody Chambers (played anonymously)

Melody looked over and enjoyed watching Ethan climb down from his tank. “Nice meeting you Ethan! she called out to him as he waved goodbye. She then turned and called out to the people walking by!

Last chance to try and get me wet! I’m getting down after the next throw at me!

Melody thought she should up her game a little with the other two girls attracting a lot of attention. She looked over at … Sophia and Jane … what the hastily-written paper placard said… she knew of them on campus but didn’t know them…

“Hey! It looks like us USC Asian girls are in it to the end!”
Kyoya Honda (played by voxmenox)

Kyoya wandered off the main area of the park when he overheard someone mention "USC girls." His curiosity was piqued because he was also enrolled at the University of Southern California, and it seemed that some of the junior students had gathered around the dunk tank event. As a third-year student now, Kyoya was familiar with the campus and its students, and he was intrigued by the commotion.

As he approached the crowd, he spotted Melody, Jane, and Sophia inside the dunk tank, Also Natasha, even if this was the first time he had seen her.

"Oh, hi guys," Kyoya said with a friendly smile, greeting the trio. "Thought I've seen you all around campus before,"

Kyoya joined the crowd and handed over a few dollars to Red, who was managing the dunk tank. "Is this how it's supposed to be done?" Kyoya asked. After receiving the ball, he took aim, focusing his target on Melody, who was sitting on the dunk tank platform, looking cheerful and carefree.

He threw the first ball, but it flew out of the sight. He threw another ball, but it slightly passed out the target.

"Hell, you're one lucky girl, Melody!"

He threw the last ball but it even flew further than the target shot. "Gremlin! I'm so bad at throwing!"

Kyoya felt embarassed that none of the balls have hit Melody.
