Oooh, some fluffy little furballs that might not be cuddle toys….
Makes me think of all those well known cuties that turn out not to be that gentle as they seem, like Gremlins or Ewoks. Or that innocent bunny (rabbit of Cearbannog) protecting the entrance of the cave in “The Quest of the Holy Grale”. Or even Chewbacca…
The conspiracy theorie of squirrels taking over the world is not bad, cats and dogs protecting humans is quite well known. And it’s a fact that felines are mythical creatures, they officially reign the world!!
What you might need is a creature, appearing mythical, like having fluffy fur that changes color in given situation, might even glow or float (just like those well known ‘fur balls’). Yes I know, it’s unicorn and kittens. But you can make them change into anything, maybe even evil.
Or they could be chased by others as their energy makes some technology turn better. They might hide to escape certain death and have learned to ‘retract’ their fur.
Could just appear as ‘normal’ animals but having cosmic energy inside them.
