I'm unsure if it's just me but has anyone ever made an Oc or in the middle of making one and just started disliking it? For example, I'm making a character as of now and I'm debating either to completely restarted her profile or just continue. If anyone has gone through this, how did you manage it or solved this issue? If you're interested of what I have so far to her profile, dm and I'll send it. Anyways, I wish you all a wonderful day/afternoon/night!
Oh yeah, for sure. I usually try to figure out what it is that doesn't work anymore, because more often than not, it's just a few broken cogs ruining the whole machinery for me. Maybe it's the aesthetics that I don't like anymore, or the basic premise that doesn't gel with the personality I'm imagining for them. Maybe I've actually already made this character before, and the reason I'm feeling uninspired is because I was happier with the first version of that concept.

No matter what it is, I tend to end up with a pile of stuff that I like and a pile of stuff that I don't, and at that point, it's just a matter of throwing out the junk and starting over from the remaining 30%, 50%, or 70% of a character that remains. It can be a long process, but hey, there's no rush.

Ah, okay thank you. I'll take this to consideration.

Who doesn’t doubt?

May the first who doesn’t, throw the first stone!!

No really, no worry, that’s all simply normal.
I think every creation has his moment of doubt, and if you don’t feel your OC, makes no sense to keep on going. My first OC was Max, then came other until Lizbeth was born. Lizbeth, how on earth play a doe, did I do right to make her? To make her suffer?
Max is fierce, pride, a MAN, see what I mean? What the hell does a fragile doe do in there? She was about to be deleted, didn’t she have the one or other nice RP.
But if you want, you can send your creation and I give my opinion, if I get a bit spare time.

No judging 😉

Okay. I'll send it soon enough.

I don't ever dislike my character but sometimes I feel really dumb about it like no one else is going to like them?

I know you described a slightly different feeling there, but I think it's always good to check in with how you feel about your characters and not worry about how others might feel. Maybe a worry of sharing with the public could influence personal.opinion of your character.

Being creative is definitely rough some days!

Thank u.
Character creation, like any creative process, often comes with doubt and challenges. It’s rarely a straight line from idea to finished profile. More often, it’s a winding path with a few “why did I do this” moments along the way.

I’ve run across several profiles where I start out confident and end up hating it halfway through. Sometimes it’s the writing that feels wrong. Sometimes it’s the images. And sometimes, if I’m being honest, it’s the character themselves quietly refusing to cooperate. When that happens, there are a few approaches that usually help.

The first is time. Stepping away can be surprisingly powerful. Let the profile sit untouched for a bit and come back with fresh eyes. Distance often reveals whether the issue is a small fix or a deeper mismatch.

Another option is perspective. Switching the face claim, adjusting the age, or even changing a single visual detail can suddenly make the character click. A new look can unlock posture, attitude, and voice in ways words alone sometimes can’t.

You can also try rewriting from a different angle. Instead of a formal profile, write a short scene, a piece of dialogue, or a moment from their past. Sometimes characters explain themselves better in motion than on a profile.

If the character still feels off, don’t be afraid to trim. Cut sections you like but that don’t serve the whole. Save them elsewhere. Nothing is truly wasted in creative work; it just gets reassigned.

And finally, if all else absolutely fails, remember that it is okay to let a character go. Not every idea needs to be rescued. Some exist to teach you what you don’t want, and that’s just as valuable. Walking away isn’t failure; it’s part of the process.

Creative work breathes, resists, and occasionally sulks. Listening to that resistance, rather than fighting it, often leads to better characters in the long run!

I hope this helps!!!

I have done this. When I first came to RPR, I created a half dozen characters to try and fit a particular RP prompt I was discussing with someone. They didn't like any of them so we ended up not RP'ng, but a couple of the characters I kept pretty much the same and they hit it off with others. A few I have reworked, renovated, and revamped a number of times to little avail. I think maybe they have a cursed character number or something. XD

Summary is you have to be happy enough too want to role-play with a particular character. They need to inspire a writer to be creative with them.

This. I'll add that there has to be a drive to create the character for whatever scene/situation/genre they are to be in. This whole thread reminds me that I need to review a few 'draft' characters I've had sitting idle for some time.
