I asked people to not use gifs in my guestbooks for a long time because ... god, I just can't stand them when I'm not purposefully choosing to see their animations. I hate their endless looping, especially when it has a lot of movement. Some of them are even outright hard to look at!

But, see, my experience cannot be limited to my own requests to avoid them - other people use them on their profiles and character sites. So if I want to read their site, I have to put up with that image looping and distracting me endlessly, unless I wanna copy paste the info into another window or some other silly thing.

On Discord, there's an option to make gifs not automatically play, and only play when your mouse is over them. I enjoy being able to only view their animations if I choose to.

I know a website is different from an entire app, so I don't know if this can be done, but if it's possible, I'd be endlessly grateful.

Actually this is so much easier to do since the last time I looked at it I may be able to slip it into the Friday update. I won't swear that it will work in real time chats yet but it should work for the forums and such.

Great news just as a general acceptability update! I've always had it tough with eyestrain gifs.
