Well you did the right thing, create a character, now just define what kind of RP you're up to, what genre you prefer and start to search, ask, propose, try.... all is possible. If you have any kind of issue, a simple question can mostly solve it.
If ever you were only on some fast paced chat-like RP site, I would consider to have a bit more patience. Forums take their time, but don't worry, that's totally normal and nobody is 'dead'.
