Forums » Smalltalk » HAPPY PRIDE MONTH!!

I'm a bit late on this post, but i wanted to wish everyone on here a Happy Pride Month! to my trans brothers sisters and siblings, to my gay lesbian bi pan and ect siblings, and all other queer family, happy pride month, you guys are all awesome. to out straight allies, thank you too! your support means alot to us, and we appreciate you. it's been hard for the queer community, and it's scurry, but the community has endured hardship before and will do it again.
i encourage people to learn the history of our community, to learn about our historical strength, and to learn of the most empowering/inspiring stories of our ancestors.(specifically in queer american history: Marsha P Johnson, Sylvia Rivera)

anyway, i don't entirely know if there was much more point to posting this besides wanting to wish everyone a happy and fun safe pride month. feel free to share your stories, queer fun facts, share your fun pride plans, whatever related things you want to share can be posted here(so long as it follows website's rules ofc, obviously<3)

additionally, bc i've seen a lot of confusion about microlables and neo/xeno pronouns online recently: if you have a microlable or use neo/xeno pronouns, or any other other identity you find people don't understand, ect, feel free to explain your pronouns, labels and identities as well! i want this post to have all the best good vibes, and to show each other we have a community around us. i want good energy to for people to know they're not alone while they read this thread<3

my favorite queer fact(s) recently:
-large parts of the gay rights movement in the US was fought by POC trans women / drag queens
-communities like the leather community(which has a TONE of over lap with the queer community already) was also a big role in queer history of the US, particularly during the AIDS epidemic

my identity explanation/story:
mine doesn't feel like it's anything really unheard of at all, it is kinda easy to understand for most i feel? but i feel like if i'm asking people to do this kind of thing in reply to this(if they want to ofc) than i should also show i'm willing to do the same!
my pronouns are he/they, but i also used to use ne/nem neo-pronouns! i still like ne/nem, but i got tired of explaining it to people and most didn't really use them anyway so i kinda stoppedšŸ˜…
i am trans masculine nonbinary, for me this means that i'm not completely male, but definitely not female(my assigned gender at birth), i'm somewhere between trans man and non-binary. ou could compare this to being very similar to the definition of demi-boy. why don't i just use Demi-boy? bc the label never really set right with me. it just didn't fit, saying i'm trans non-binary is the way i most prefer to self identify, and feels most correct!
i'm also pan/omnisexual. i usually just say i'm pan, partly bc i'm still unsure which i am. pan is a label that feels comfortable, but the definition is just slightly off for me. and omnisexual is a label that has a definition that looks correct, but the label doesn't fit quite right. i like anyone and everyone regardless of gender, however i do think gender still plays a role in my attraction, possibly a preference towards men and enby people i explain these two labels for me like a sweater:
pan is like trying on a sweater or hoodie that fits, it's comfortable, over sized, warm, soft, feels perfect. but in the mirror, it doesn't look quite right on me.
omnisexual is a sweater or hoodie that looks great on me, the color compliments my eyes, it makes my form look perfect, i'm glowing in it, but the inner seam and the fabric is itchy and doesn't feel as good as it looks when i wear it.

so yeah, that's me! feel free to share your identities, stories, favorite queer facts, ect in reply to this! love y'all, stay safe, stay queer, i'm proud of you all. Happy Pride Month<3
Ok, even if this is second post for Pride Month, I don’t care, as I participate !!

Even if I do not belong to Queer community as I’m heterosexual (maybe a bit ā€˜bi’ on the border) but! and I said this already in Just Talking! I support the LGBTQIA+ .
We here had an official gay as Prime Minister from 2013 to 2023, many other European countries have same. My boss, vice-director, is a post-op transgender. And personally I participated here, the same Rainbow Career Day will be held again in October (I’ll be therešŸ˜‰).
My contribution and experience in Queer Community

Just one question, why ā€˜queer’?
Ethymological that means bizarre, strange. In German it means crooked or askew (not straight). Where does Queer come from?
Fantax - queer was used as strange or weird but then shifted into a derogatory term towards the LGBT+ communities. Now it's a reclaimed word. Much like other offensive words that communities have chosen to take pride in and remove the ammo bigots have tried to give themselves.
Or how to turn weapons into flowers…
Exactly!

I just wanted to let you know, as I'm sure you don't mean anything bad by this; it's just a simple mistake, but... Transgender isn't a noun. One should say "this is a transgender person" (or woman, man, etc) rather than just "a transgender." :3

Anyway, happy pride month! I already made a topic for the occasion, but another one can't hurt!
I'm aroace, which means I don't experience any sexual or romantic attraction to anyone, ever. No microlabels here; for me it's as simple as that.
I'm also transmasc; looks like my experience with and description of my gender lines up pretty closely with OP. Not totally binary, but definitely closer to a guy than a girl, and similarly, I've never vibed with the term demiboy even though the definition would be fairly accurate.
In most cases, I would just say I'm a guy/a trans guy, without specifying that I'm not fully binary... But I still tend to say "transmasc" rather than "FtM" or "trans male." I also describe myself as gender-nonconforming, though mostly in my head rather than out loud to other people.
Ultimately I'm just a silly little guy :3
It’s important to have whimsy!

Ow... my apologies. But I can assure you that 'transgenre' (transgender in French) is accepted as noun too ;) as well as in Oxford English Dictionary O:)
In German it becomes a "Transperson"
I didn't want to hurt anyone... <G> my fault, not enough research, that happens to me often and then Us-citizen go like 'HUH?'

Whatever were doing with the mean comments, we're not allowing people to use them when there's gay things to be done instead. šŸ˜†

It's not an offensive thing (mostly) so much as a grammatical quirk.

Rather, the issue you can run into with English with that language quirk is that referring to someone as "a transgender" is strongly tied to the misunderstandings of bigots. You can still see folks in the community using it sometimes, but they do so "ironically" as a playful reference to the bigots misunderstanding things and being willfully ignorant.

So using transgender as a noun in English is not, itself, insulting; but it can make people assume you're a transphobe depending on context.
Zelphyr, I think, and this is the most disappointing, any word can be ā€œmisusedā€ or transposed into some insult regarding any minority (if I may say minority) in a given context.
See even transphobe, a phobia being an intense fear. Hate being rather ā€˜miso’ (misos: to hate). I’m not ā€œmisotransā€! (like misogynistic)
What counts is that I for sure do not use such word as insult or moquerie. But I’ll try my best not to offend by using an inadequate word, and if I do, be so gentle and explain to me šŸ˜‰
