Devi wasn't about to take her chances. As the building shook, as bits of ceiling rained down on her head, she ran, sprinting down the hallway. She looked desperately around, and threw open a battered window. She could hear screaming. She could see blue light from the corner of her eye as she crawled, albeit not gracefully, from the window, snapping out her gray-brown wings and pushing up, up against the cool evening air. By the time Devi was a hundred feet up or so, the building blew to pieces.

Two figures -- at least one of them a magic user -- emerged from the devastation that had been the building. Devi circled up and landed on the roof of a complex a few buildings over, watching.
