I'm rather rubbish at introductions, so I'm just going to put up my information from my profile. >.>
Quote:
Aside from the games of imagination children play naturally, I started acting in theatre when I was around age four till around sixteen when I was too goth for the local dominant religion (to the point where most places wouldn't even let me stage manage, which I'd started doing at thirteen, and started into being able to actually play role playing games when Vampire: the Masquerade started playtesting in 1992; I've been doing table tops ever since, across most of the major (and a lot of the minor) systems and genres.

I started RPing online in 1996 when I built my first computer and started paying for my own internet service (because I disliked mom's restrictions for her AOL service) out of my lunch money, via a local BBS. I then graduated to IM role play and forum role play when the internet did, and started MMO RP when I made it into EverQuest after I started working for Sony Online Entertainment as Verant Interactive transitioned up to their new owners, circa January 2001; I've RP'd in MMOs ever since, and it's currently the main way I RP anymore due to chronic illness. I've RP'd in most major MMOs, as I've played most major MMO's that have been released since 2001, though there are some I wouldn't touch with a ten foot pole.

I'm not adverse to forum or IM RP, there's just not been a whole lot of it since I got into the MMO industry and playing MMO games. Between being sick and ending up in guild leadership - or being the guild creator and leader - I just don't have a whole lot of time sometimes.

There. Introduction!
My, that's a lot of information! But welcome to RPR! I'm Lotus, but please call me Light or whatever nice name you please! It's sweet to meet you!

You used to work for Sony?! That's incredible! ;A; I'm not sure if it's okay to ask, but what did you do there? Also, out of all the genres and subgenres you've played, which one is your favorite or sticks out for you the most in terms of RP?

Anyway, if you need any help that our Help Section can't aid you with, ask any of us! We're all friendly here and glad to help anyone out who needs it!

Hey there! Welcome to RPR! It's so epic that you used to work for SONY. I was looking into doing work experience there haha. Anyway, we're a nice friendly community of people so if you have any questions don't hesitate to ask ^-^ I hope you enjoy your time here :P
As a former mmo junkie, welcome. What was it that you did at Sony? 3d modeling and the like? Either way, that's quite an accomplishment, man.

I'm Bonebag, and mostly lurk in the off topic chat. Been here a little over 5 years and have yet to get into an rp haha. Anyway. If you have questions or want to talk, hit up the Just Talkin thread in the off topic section or feel free to pm me. I'm not always posting but I do check my messages often.

I hope you find everything to your liking :)!
Wow, you've been RPing for a really long time! Welcome to RPR, I hope you have fun here!

I started in tech support, then moved to being a GM. It was a total accident that I ended up working for SOE in the first place, but I'm happy it happened.

Aside from the normal GM stuff, I ended up on Quest Team, and wrote a bunch of the live quests that GMs ran before I had to move away from San Diego; almost all the ones I wrote were GM only because of what they required the quest runner to have access to command wise, as they were kinda complex. I also was on the night shift for a long while, so I had a few persistent NPCs that I just got to log into and RP with people with, and make up on the spot little quests with, which was kinda fun - if the petitions weren't up, of course.

I got into the 3D artwork after leaving SOE, but due to being there and meeting a few artists who did both 3D work and digital painting. I currently can't digitally paint, but we're looking into a device that might let me do so again - it basically has a core that straps to the wrist, then four little devices that strap to each finger that function like a stylus would. It's a bit expensive, so it's got to wait till my fiance gets taxes done and his new car taken care of (cus his current one dropped the entire alternator, but it's a really old Cadillac, so...), but it's a hope that it'll work. The device is also designed to work with 3D for direct manipulation, but whether or not it will work with my lower end programmes is another story.

Thanks for the warm welcomes. I don't know if I'll get too huge into forum RP here, aside from with maybe one of my characters - most of my RP is MMO based now a days.

Welcome to RPR! I hope you're enjoying the site so far :) It's a pretty awesome place to store information about characters!
Wow, wow, wow. That's pretty dang amazing to be honest. I'm not sure what to say
Working within the gaming industry has been kinda sorta a goal for me, but it's been dying down a bit lately. Still, I find your work experience things mighty fascinating~

Reima, my biggest suggestion to anyone is to hit CSR or QA first if going for the direct position you're after isn't working, then move up internally. It actually can end up being a lot faster than trying to get a job with the position you want right from college.

I worked back in the era before there were college courses focused specifically on gaming - even 3D animation back then was being pioneered as a college course. Most people in the industry didn't have industry specific degrees, so it's still so weird for me that people get to go to college for this stuff now.

But really, moving internally has always been faster than trying to come in externally. It also will help with the requirement of "get X number of years experience" that keeps popping up on positions, as you can end up helping out on a game's development without being directly on the development team when you're working CSR or QA. At SOE, they'd take GMs and QAs and sort of have them apprentice over in dev before moving someone over, which got them experience doing the work on their own time. Sort of like interns, but really more like apprentices with how it worked, since they actually worked there. It was a cool concept and more than just SOE does it.

There are also a lot of game companies who are starting their CSRs off as remote workers now, so as much as it seems like it's dying down, it's not. I've actually been helping a friend look into industry jobs, and I was sending him postings for positions - both big ones and CSR/QA ones - two to four times a week. Companies just don't always list everything under their big Careers link, which is sort of the trick, heh.
Hello! Welcome to RPR! I hope that you have a great time here! It's great that you have decided to join us! ^.^
