Merthyr is the prince / son with too keen taste for danger and too good heart
Taff Gelligen - the powerful warlock is his manservant - keeps powers hidden in case the king finds out
Zachary - a sorcerer at the king's service - enslaved

That sounds interesting! If you'd like, we can incorporate an idea that humans who ARE aware if their existence (such as the king or what not) hires slavers to capture mythical beings for them and then buy them as pets? Or something like that? This way it could give them a reason to venture into the monsters side of the forest.
