A distance away, Hunter smilled when a blip appeared on his HUD.
Isobel stood up shakily when he left. She listened to see if he would come back soon. She didn't doubt he would come back, though it was calm and quiet at the moment. "What'd he leave behind?" She'd heard something hit the ground but had been unable to see the flash of light.
Rae sniffed the air, humans smells always changed. She licked her muzzle and saw Isobel. " Be careful, I know hunters. They leave traps for us, he'll probably be back. " Her emerald eyes watched the bushes, her ears flicking to the sound of noise.
"I wonder if it'll do any good to try leaving." Isobel was obviously more of a realistic person than an optimist. "If it comes down to a fight, I probably won't be able to help much. All my usual advantages don't really work here."
Rae sighed, pawing the ground. " Maybe... " She thought, then spoke. " Can you fly? If so I'll go with you to the forest edge, then you can fly away. For me... " Rae's emerald eyes looked into the shadows, " I never leave a hunter unharmed. " She grinned, this wasn't the first time she had been hunted.
Isobel shook her head and gave a similar grin, though she couldn't have seen Rae's, it showed in her voice. "It'll be easier for me to fight at the edge of the forest instead of the middle, and besides, I never leave a fellow non-human behind." She thought for a moment and added. "Unless they're trying to kill me."
Rae nodded her head, shifting to her human form. " Come on, lets get you to the edge. " She picked up her staff. " Here. " She pushed it into her hands.
Isobel smiled gratefully. "Thanks." She put it strapped against her back, between her wings so it wouldn't hinder her flying. "Ready? I'll try to make it fast and stay a little low this time."
Rae smiled and placed her hand on hers. " Just don't make me get hit by any trees. " She said laughing. " I'll drop you off and make you a shelter in a tree, change your herbs, then I'm coming back here. "
"Alright." She grabbed Rae's hand and flew just over the trees. Soon, they came to a spot where the trees ended and grassy hills began. Isobel landed them close to the treeline but didn't let go a Rae. Instead she grabbed both her shoulders before she had a moment to protest and concentrated, sending a revitalizing wave through her. For Rae, it would've started out feeling tingly at the shoulders that spread through her body, leaving behind energy and alertness. Isobel nodded and let go. "That should help you out."
Rae felt the energy, she actually wanted to laugh. She moved her fingers around, more energy in her. She looked at her. " Thanks, but what about you? " Rae walked towards a willow, taking the herbs out of her shirt.
Isobel shrugged. "Not sure why, but my healing doesn't work on myself. Plus, you'll need it more than I will." She felt tired after transferring all that energy, but it went to a good cause.
Rae looked at her, " Can you fly up to a branch in the willows? " She said. She was worried they wouldn't have time.
Isobel nodded, moving towards the tree in what started as a jump. She used her wings to lift herself to one of the branches. "What do you need?"
Rae climbed up the tree. " I really don't need anything. I'm making you a high shelter. " She held the herbs in her hands. " I need to change it. "
"Oh..thank you." She listened to the sounds of the girl climbing up. "By the way, what's your name? The hunter came before you could say."
Rae sat there for a little. Do I trust her? She said softly, " My name is Rae.. "
Isobel nodded. "It's a pretty name." She fingered the hanging branches and absentmindedly started weaving them together. "If you need help when you go back just howl."
"Should she howl now?" A strange voice called up. It was the armored man again. His HUD locked on them as he looked up. "Two of you? Good to know my chase has been cut short." He heavily tinted visor hid Hunter's slight smile. As he spoke his hand went up to his sword, ready to pull it out if the need arises.
Isobel jumped when she heard the voice and would have fallen out of the tree if she hadn't snapped out her wings. She stayed level with the tree, the steady down stroke of her wings silent. She resisted the urge to let out a string of obscenities and pulled her staff off her back. How could I not have heard him? He was louder than an elephant the first time. An angry scowl fixed onto her face as she faced the direction the voice had come from.
