How many accounts are actually counted as active on RPR? I don't mean like "registered once and a year and a half ago made a profile and left".
The reason I ask is I find it impressive how thoroughly friendly this community is in spite of the few-thousand listed people on the front. Typically when that many individual users join any site, forums inevitably turn into a mosh pit of trolls and flame wars but... not here yet.

I count "active" as having signed in and done at least one thing in a given time period. Edited a character, made a post, created a journal entry, sent a private message, etc.
By that critera, we have about 600-800 active members per month, and anywhere between 100-400 per week. Obviously that is a wide margin. School, holidays, and who knows what else seems to have a huge influence on how often and how many people log in. There's a core that signs in nearly daily, and then we have a swarm of outliers who crop up every few months in order to make a change to their characters (or occasionally who decide to just be parts of the community and join the core). Our occasional users account for most of the wild fluctuations.
I'd be hard pressed to call an account "abandoned", as I've routinely seen accounts inactive for over 6 months suddenly start being used again. I think we have a lot of people who just want the profile building functionality, and that doesn't require a lot of attention on their part.
I keep bracing myself every time we pass another milestone for an influx of trolls, but it just keeps not happening. I credit our incredibly busy moderators and our overwhelmingly friendly core community for keeping cool heads, being enormously welcoming, and when some piece of text can be read two ways, we all seem to pretty consistently pick the friendlier interpretation.

Secretly I am actually controlling the minds of all the members in the RPR with my superior psionic abilities to act nice to each other without it becoming too suspicious.
I'm just telling you this in hopes that you'll go "Nah that's too obvious!" and go on blissfully unaware that I'm controlling you.
Oh so that's what my headache is being caused by? The downside of psionic shields. Headaches when someone is trying to use a psionic ability on you. Heh.
