91dErDi.jpg So I've been like completely, super, unmotivated to draw and I just wanted to ask some people on what they would do to get going. It's not that I don't have any confidence in myself, but I can't seem to get inspired! Unfortunately, my abilities only limit me to drawing cartoons or semi- realistic stuff (because I have a problem with proportioning and it really kills me and I can't draw realistically at all because of this.)

Regardless, if you have any tips for me or ideas to share I would really appreciate it! Thank you! I love seeing everything you guys post and that's really the only reason I want to get back into art!

But please enjoy what I can give you for the time being!

I know how that feels, I get in funks where I want to draw, but just have no inspiration or anything. Usually I draw stuff for my friends or base it off my current rps of the time. There are random generators and also you can ask if anyone would like a request, those are a lot of what I do when I can't think of anything myself.

Thank you! Those are both great ideas. I think I might do those both actually...

Wish you great success!
Oof, this isn’t fun. Sometimes it can feel like I have so many ideas that I can barely write them down - and other times it feels like I can’t seem to pull anything out of my brain.

I tend to watch a movie, listen to music, etc. to find inspiration; sometimes I redo some of my older drawings / sketches. ^^

I hope this helps!

Ahhhhh thank youuu!! Those are great, too! Someone else told me to redo old sketches and I think I am going too now!
A few things I usually do!

1. Use a different medium! Do you usually work digital? Do a pencil sketch. Do you usually do pencil sketches? Work in ink washes or watercolor! Mastered everything in 2D art? Try digital or traditional sculpting for a little bit! This usually has your brain work a different way that it usually would, and this can sometimes help get past a block :>

If you don't have multiple mediums to work in, try different supplies! (Ex: If you work digital, try different brushes from what you usually use. If you use traditional and always sketch in pencil, try sketching in ballpoint pen, etc. etc.!)

2. This is the one I use the most: Re-draw something! Do you have a piece from a few years ago (or even a few months ago) that you're nostalgic about? Or maybe a piece that you LOOOVED at the time, but now absolutely loathe? Re-draw it now! Seeing this comparison usually helps give me a boost. :> Do as many times as necessary (sometimes it only takes me one re-draw to get back in the groove, sometimes it takes me several.)

3. Music. Always music. All of it. Always the music. ALWAYS. But seriously - If you have an idea, but just can't sketch it out? Put on some music that you feel portrays the mood you're going for. For example, if I'm ever drawing a snow scene, I'll always put on skyrim. Drawing a cafe? I'll probably put on some lofi hip hop or some folk or something.

4. Pinterest is your best friend here. Wanna draw a girl? "Portrait Photography Female". Wanna draw an animal? "Pet Photography" or "Zoo animals" or etc. etc. Gather as many references as you want in as many or as few boards as you want. Go through these on occasion. I have quite a few reference boards for inspiration on my pinterest profile if you wanna skip the curating and just go straight to looking for inspo.

5. Go look at your favorite artists. Can be one or several, but find maybe 3-6 pieces that you REALLY love. Pinpoint why. Got those reasons? Now try and draw something with these aspects. Is it the way they draw hips? Maybe the way they draw hands! Or noses! Etc. Try just studying!

6. Study. Just re-draw a picture. Don't change it, just study and recreate it. Learn from it. Sometimes learning something or finding a new brush, etc. is a nice 'reset' or 'dumb down' session of sorts for your creative brain.

7. If all else fails? Just draw. Don't worry about coming up with something fancy. Take out a page and draw. Is it an eyeball? A bunch of hearts? A bunch of swirls? Cool. Just keep going until your brain goes "Okay, fine, whatever" and burps something out. Sometimes it takes me a half a page or so before my brain goes "OKAY FINE A FACE OKAY THERE YOU GO" and I'm happy. Just draw!!

Hope this helped some <3
Maybe post a thread on this forum and have people give you prompts to draw or sketch! :) I don’t know too much about this so I’m no expert on it, but it seems like it would help you get back into the groove, ya know?
