WOMEN OF HIGH FASHION. I REQUIRE YOUR ASSISTANCE.

so, uh. a long story short, i'm needing to rent/find a suit for a formal event that i'll be attending in the next few months. any color or type is fine, but i really dislike patterns. i honestly have a lot of questions because i have the fashion sense of a grungy, dumb gay who has never been to anything ~fancy~ in her life. i've literally worn a dress once and hated every second of it, and i'd prefer not to spend a lot of money on something i'll wear once. so no dresses pls < 3

HERE WE GO.

1) do i, like...wear heels? or dress shoes? i mean i'm fine with both but i don't know which is appropriate- if it's dress shoes, do i like, wear black socks or something?

2) what do i wear as an undershirt? do i wear an undershirt?

3) no, i don't know what my date will be wearing yet because i'm going with a group of friends, lmao. not a question but rather a clarification.

4) as a 'busty' lady, should i be generous with my bust measurement? what kind of fit should i get, and where should i button it?

5) online or in-person? i have a fairly small budget to work with, i'd say around $200-250 at most. i know my measurements. if the former, what are some places you recommend?

6) DO I LIKE STILL WEAR MAKE UP OR WHAT I'M SO CONFUSED

anyways, thanks for taking the time to read the anxious questions of a dum dum who doesn't know how to be classy or fancy. pls help me. i'm hopelessly lost. < 3
Uuuh what about a silly fashionable guy?

1) Depends on the look you're going for! You can really play up feminine curves and then wear heels for height. If you opt for dress shoes, black socks for sure unless you want to go fun and play with dark patterns (argyle! Or my favourite, rainbow stripes); depends on if the suit is more of an ankle-length slim pant.

2) If you're prone to sweating, I would--but if it's a hot muggy place I know I tend to get bothered by the extra layer. In general, I go for a sleeveless white tank of some sort. T-shirts are usually fine, but I find (because of my bony arms) the sleeves are visible through the fabric of my button-up, so I dislike them. But it also depends on what kind of shirt you plan to wear over it! Button-up? Safe. Blouse? Especially a lower-cut one? Maybe not.

3) Pff whatever get a matching pin if you want to coordinate.

4) Depends on if you plan to wear a button-up shirt. If so: *definitely*; 9/10 button-ups aren't well-fitted for busts, and because it's a weave instead of a knit you get all sorts of annoying restrictions in the shoulder-area. If you opt for a blouse or other top under the suit jacket, you don't need to be as generous as most people like to leave the jacket undone. More caution if you want to go the full shebang and get a waistcoat.

The GENERAL trend for buttoning suit jackets is all but leave the bottom-most undone. That's men's. Lots of ladies like to leave it either entirely undone, or button under the bust for emphasis (that tends to look better in photos than in person hah). For buttoning the shirt, I only button it all the way if I want to wear a tie. Otherwise some people find them constricting.

5) In person is better, especially for finicky suit things, butttt. Unfortunately I live in Canada, so I don't know if I'd be great for recommendations. If you want to keep this suit a long time, I mean, I'd get something nice and professional, but for an event that you might re-use pieces of the suit after, then H&M, Zara, etc. you can often find affordable pieces, plus mix and match whatever.

6) If you like wearing makeup, definitely. Super classy cute makeup and suit look.

Ideas:
-With waistcoat
-Waistcoat, tie and heels
-Blouse instead of shirt!
-Another blouse
-Double-breasted suit jacket with unbuttoned shirt and heels

<SENDS YOU MY UTMOST APPRECIATION>

with your advice in mind, i've decided to go with a nice maroon suit with a black whatever-you-call-the-undershirts and heels. still not sure what to do with my tie, but i'll figure that out later~ i think i'll probably end up having to leave it unbuttoned, because prior experiences tell me that no matter how much tailoring is done, they'll screw up the bust measurements anyways.

makeup and hair will be a completely different hell, but that gets to wait for another three months. thank you for your advice, you have done a bby butch a lifesaver < 3
