An ordinary high-school student with an ordinary life. That's you - until you meet a classmate who is not so ordinary. A new secret world is opened up to you - one of magic and spirits. Secretive cults from across the world have joined forces in a bid to wrest power from the capitalist elite and unleash their own regime in their place. Now, they arrive in Japan...

Players aged 16+ are preferred. If you're a year or so younger than that and feel you're more mature than average, we can discuss things, but there will be extra limits set on RP to keep everyone comfortable regarding the age gap.
This is a multi-paragraph RP. If you feel you can't maintain a pace of about 2 paragraphs average per post, this might not be for you. Also, expect long posts from me early on - don't feel obligated to keep up with them and don't expect them to persist throughout; it'd be mostly due to me setting the scene.

Scenario 1 - for powered characters
You always thought you were alone. Your strange inhuman abilities have always been a secret burden you have carried. Something you have always sought a purpose for. That is when he sees you. Scenario 2 - for unawakened powered characters
Life for you has always felt like something is missing. Some aspect that should be there, yet is not. Like there's more to existence than the mundane droll slog you're force to endure. When you get to class, the strange quiet boy in the corner is staring at you again. Like he always does. At this point, you're certain it's a crush. But you're wrong. There is more to the boy's interest in you than simple high-school romance. A secret about you that you don't even know. A power within you, waiting to be unleashed. And he can sense it.

Scenario 3 - for brave unpowered characters willing to fight despite their lack of powers
He's always there. Day-in, day-out - apart from March 14th - Tetsuji is always present in class. Ordinarily, an occasional day of absence is normal for students. But this seems odd. On your way home after school, you decide to take a shortcut through an alley. That is where you find it. A small, fluffy creature lying unconscious on the ground, about the size of a small dog. Unlike anything you've ever seen before. After you've nursed it back to health, it thanks you and seems to disappear.
The next day, Tetsuji is back in class. Normally a reserved loner, he never takes the initiative in seeking new friends. And yet... after some time spent staring, he approaches you. Little do you know that the boy and that small fluffy being you found in the alley are one-in-the-same....

Scenario 4 - for unpowered characters less capable of fighting
It's raining again. Most students are spending their lunch break indoors. One particular classroom is open to students wishing to use it for revision. Sat within is Tetsuji, as usual, more interested in his studies than mingling with his classmates. Whether you're also there to revise or just passing by, all the same you witness as he suddenly bolts up from his seat, pushing his desk to oneside to go charging out of the room and down the corridor. The boy flees desperately into a cleaning closet, slamming the door behind him. Seconds pass, and all is quiet. Do you investigate?
It's raining again. Most students are spending their lunch break indoors. One particular classroom is open to students wishing to use it for revision. The Druid Circle - The most ancient and secretive of the cults, the Druid Circle practices dark corruption of nature to reach its goals. Hailing from the United Kingdom, they have an exceptional affinity with witchcraft.
Beschwörerkult - The 'Summoner Cult' is one that has already had a taste of power and influence thanks to its strong ties with Nazi Germany. With an affinity with strange otherworldly entities, they dabble in the realm of madness and worship of cruel unknowable beings.
Lucifer's Children - An American society of twisted satanists, Lucifer's Children have mastered the art of communion with demons. Possessions and sacrifice tend to dominate their activity, fuelled by dangerous blood magic.
Los Pastores de los Muertos - 'The Shepherds of the Dead' were originally from the Caribbean, formed under a different name until they gained popularity in latin America. Their roots tied into a twisted interpretation of voodoo, Los Pastores have an affinity with the spirit world, particularly those of a darker temperament.
Obluchennyy - Known simply as 'Irradiated', Obluchennyy (or Облученный) are a fairly recent cult formed off the back of the cold war in what was then the Soviet Union. Forming from a combination of survivors of Soviet radiation experiments and survivors of radioactive disasters, Obluchennyy believe in the use of mutagens to obtain powers on the mortal plane as opposed to turning to the supernatural. Their success has been variable and often failure has resulted in disaster; but they have gained enough of a following to spread through much of mainland Asia.
Electi Dei - The 'Chosen of God' are an odd ally of the other cults who represent blasphemy to the Christian faith. However, this secretive sect has corrupted its original purpose and has arrived at the twisted conclusion that God's will involves utilising the power of other occult organisations. Based in the Vatican City, Electi Dei are perhaps the least powerful of the cults in terms of abilities, size and political influence. However, as the force that has kept the alliance together, they serve as the overall leadership. Perhaps this was a decision made by the combined alliance to prevent any one of the more powerful cults gaining an edge on control. Or maybe, Electi Dei has something over the cult leaders, forcing them to abdicate to their authority. Rumour has it that their headquarters contains a vault with ancient knowledge that would completely overturn the human understanding of reality... one that answers the question as to the existence of God and their designs...

Here's another anime/manga-inspired idea. Using my new character Tetsuji, a spiritual being with powers relating to the stars and the zodiacs. The RP is set in modern-day Japan and will involve fighting against a creepy evil cult - the level of your character's involvement being dependent on their abilities. This will of course be interspersed with high-school slice-of-life moments as your character deals with their normal school life alongside becoming acquaintances with this strange creature masquerading as a human.
Your character must be of Japanese senior high school age (15-18). Preferably 15-17, as Tetsuji's 16 years of age work for both 1st and 2nd grade of senior high, and it would allow the characters to be classmates.
The RP is set in modern-day Japan, but Japanese characters aren't required.
Magic is rare. Some of the players might have it. There may be sages or other magical figures that could be sought out for tutelage.
Modern
Combat is woven into the storyline and could come to the forefront if the characters seek it out.
Romance isn't outright desired, but can happen if we decide the characters are perfect for each other. The romance won't be important to the overall plot.
Details: Freeform, paragraphs required, long-term RP partner preferred. Will be played one-on-one.

Seems a little overpowered for the sort of thing I have in mind in terms of abilities. There would be no real contest if the bad guys could just be instantly incinerated, and I'm not really a fan of invulnerability for a plot of this kind, as it kinda takes the danger out of a conflict.

Hmm... I dunno if this is really the sort of thing I'm looking for, honestly. I'm thinking more of a semi-serious themed RP that love-based powers might not really thematically slot into. And eating people might be a little too much on the silly side for the themes as well.
