Forums » General Roleplay » [Closed] Summer Soirée - 🎤Karaoke on the Beach🏖

Ophelia laughed. "I'll sing Crystal, then! How about you and I sing Landslide together next if no one else would like a turn? I don't like to brag and I like being humble, but I've always loved singing and been told I'm quite good at it. So... don't be too shocked if I'm on this stage more than once."

She gave a playful wink before getting up on stage and taking the mic. She went to the karaoke setup, searched for the song she wanted, and the swayed to the rhythm while waiting for her cue.

She didn't even need to look at the screen to read the lyrics. Hell, she might just sing the entire soundtrack from Practical Magic since it was one of her all-time favorite movies!

"Do you always trust your first, initial feeling? Special knowledge holds truth, bears believin'. I turned around and the water was closing all around, like a glove, like the love that had finally, finally found me..." Ophelia's voice didn't even need the mic. It was clear this wasn't her first time on a stage, and she knew just when to pull the mic away when her voice would increase.
Victor sensed nothing but nervous energy coming off Ellen from the moment he stepped up to the bar. He kept an easy smile on his lips, but he was a little concerned by her. The rhythm of her heart had taken up a furious pace and she seemed like her brain was going in three different directions at once. It wasn’t in his nature to jump to the conclusion Ellen might be acting this way because she was overwhelmed by attraction. It would make more sense to him that she might be intimidated or scared of him; it’s why he always wore a smile.

While the drinks were being made, Victor turned his attention to the drink purchaser. Her energy was a lot calmer, and he wasn’t worried about scaring her like he had the bartender. “Landslide has always been a personal favorite. But I can’t say I wouldn't mind listenin’ to you rendition of any of them songs.” Victor leaned forward, reaching towards the redhead to offer his hand politely, “Opie?” he nodded. “I’m an old-fashioned guy. I think Ophelia suits ya just fine. Opie reminds me of the Andy Griffith Show. But I am no one to talk. Name’s Victor – doesn’t get much duller than that. Your name’s got color to it.” He wasn’t trying to be rude, only making a little small talk.

Ellen brought the drinks over and Victor lit up when he saw it. “Wag-a-doo! That’s a great lookin’ bevvie.” He looked from the drink to Ellen, his smile growing significantly as he looked up to thank Ellen. However, before he could say anything he heard Kali make reference to the drinks being high pressure. His eyebrows pulled together over the bridge of his nose. He turned from Kali back to Ellen, concern on his face. “No need to feel pressured there. This looks incredible!”

He lifted the cocktail and took a long pull from the straw. He swallowed and nodded appreciatively as he set the glass down. “I like a good Blue Hawaiian normally. But Sex on the Beach your style could put me on the turps.” He had planned to try and talk to Ellen to help her calm down around him, but she disappeared away from where he was sitting so quicky that it made him feel self-conscious. He caught her wide-eyed look at him and the distress in them.

He took up his drink and moved away from the bar and over to a palm tree. He rested his back against the rough bark and lifted one of his bare feet to rest flat against the base of the tree. He looked out over the waves and to listen Ophelia's voice as she sang.

Kali leaned against the corner of the bar, one elbow propped casually as her spritzer dangled from her fingers. The moment Opie stepped on stage, the shift was palpable. It was as if the ocean had taken a breath and the wind itself leaned in to listen.

As the first verse of Crystal spilled from Opie’s lips, Kali’s jaw parted slightly in awe. Her gaze flicked to the fire, to the string lights, to the way the beach seemed to quiet all at once. Magic. Absolute magic.

Without even realizing it, Kali began to sing along, softly—just under her breath, like a harmony slipping through seafoam.

“Do you always trust your first, initial feeling…”

Her eyes stayed locked on Opie, admiration lighting her features. She didn’t want the spotlight tonight. She wanted to make space for someone else to shine. Her tour with Tyler was about to throw her right back into the glare of flashing cameras and midnight rehearsals. But here, under open sky and salt-licked air, this moment was for them.

She looked over to Victor leaning against the palm tree, watching quietly, and smiled warmly.

When Opie reached the chorus, Kali let her voice float a little louder, still from her place at the bar. Not enough to compete, just enough to support.

And when the final note settled over the beach like the last shimmer of sun on water, Kali clapped both hands together above her head.

“Opie!” she called out, practically glowing. “You’re gonna make me cry in my own drink. That was gorgeous. I’m not even mad that you sound like you’ve got Stevie’s soul living in your throat.”

She stepped away from the bar and looked toward Victor with a mischievous little smirk. “And speaking of perfect pairings…” she said, eyes twinkling. “You have to do Landslide together. I’m serious. Her voice? Your heart? Instant classic.”

Then she gave an exaggerated shrug. “Unless you two want to wait until the second round, in which case I’ll start the petition for a closing duet.”

Kali looked back up at the stage with a content sigh. “This is exactly what I wanted tonight to be.”

"Breathe..."

Catching sight of Kali's mouth urging quiet encouragement and her supporting glance. Ellen nodded and snatched another look back towards the bar. He had seemed to enjoy the drink, or said something that sounded like he enjoyed the drink anyway, Ellen would have to brush up on her Auzzie. She closed her eyes and started to breathe more deeply. She was always like this, see a guy she liked then flee in terror. It was like she was doomed to flee from every guy she ever liked. Kali had teased her about it on many an occasion, she just seemed to be made of jelly on the inside.

The music started up and Opie started to sing, she was pretty good and Ellen walked to the bar to watch, she could see Kali singing along. The tall Australian had taken her flight reaction as his cue to move away and she saw him sat enjoying his drink under a palm tree, stood cool as a cucumber.

The sun lowered in the sky as Opie crooned and Ellen resolved to make things straight with the guy, apologise if nothing else!

She moved to the optics and started to work in a frenzy, Combining rum, blue Curacao, pineapple juice, cream of coconut, and crushed ice in a blender, she blend it on the highest setting until it was like a smoothie then poured it lovingly into chilled highball glass finally garnishing it with a slice of pineapple a maraschino cherry and a paper parrot.

She put the money for the drink into the register herself then headed over to where the tall Australian demigod stood taking his ease, the song was winding down and Kali was chatting to Opie. She felt tiny and awkward as she headed over, bare feet scuffing the sand into tracks, she cradled the drink as if it would bite her. Waiting as Kali suggested song choices to him then looked back at the stage, Ellen pounced on her moment.

"Hi-hi, hi there, sorry I got a little rattled. I'm just not used to people being so tall... And handsome..." She added the second part more quietly and offered the lovingly crafted light-blue drink to him.

"Your Blue Hawaiian, I'm sorry. I'm quite a nervous person, but that's no reason to be rude and I think I've upset you. In my panic I didn't catch your name."

Her big brown eyes were cast down, hat covering most of her face - occasionally snatching looks up into his as she shuffled her feet in the sand.
Victor hadn’t expected to be invited to sing with Ophelia. He had honestly thought she was inviting someone else. He stammered a little as he hadn’t consumed anywhere near enough liquid courage to be climbing up onto that stage with someone who he could, in no way, compliment their voice. “I…” Victor looked around the beach, clearly wanting to be saved.

He cleared his throat as he realized there was no escape. “Seemed there is no such thing as ‘free’,” he said as he lifted the glass up and tilted his head back. He chugged down the Sex on the Beach in two massive swallows. When he lowered the glass Ellen was standing beside him and had started to speak. His blue-grey eyes shifted to give her his full attention. “Yeah. A lot of people don’t like to stand near by ‘cause of that,” he shrugged lightheartedly. He heard her say the word ’handsome’ but he let it pass, worried that if he called attention to it, it might fluster her again.

She offered him the Blue Hawaiian and he took it as his tongue peeked out from between his teeth, an impish smile on his lips. He took the offered drink and gave Ellen a mischievous look. “And here I thought we would having Sex on Beach all night.” He offered her a wink and took a solid pull from the highball glass. He swallowed and smacked his lips a little, “Oh yeah! You’re a magical one.”

Victor offered his hand to Ellen, “No need to be worried around me, Missy. I’m just a guy who wanders about, no one special. Name’s Victor. Ya can call me Vic if you ya don’t like to be formal.” If Ellene allowed, he would take her hand in his hand give it a light shake, more of just a hold, but it could be considered a shake.

Victor, trying to show Ellen she could be herself around him, offered her his arm to escort her back over to the bar. As they walked, he asked for a huge favor, “Can ya fix me up another drink to help me forget what I am about ta do?” He had a natural self-deprecating sense of humor. Not enough to make people around him feel awkward, but it was clear he didn’t take himself too seriously. “Oh an’,” he offered Ellen and playful wink, “plug your ears. I can’t be held responsible for damage done.” He then chugged down the Blue Hawaiian to give himself a little extra courage.

He placed both empty glasses on the bar and turned towards the stage and headed that way. He stepped up onto the platform and looked at Ophelia. “How ya wanna do this? Just sing together at the same time?” Victor had seen karaoke done before, but he had never participated before.

He was nervous but he didn’t shake, nor did his voice quiver; his heart just beat a little faster and he breathed a little deeper. He found a second microphone resting a speaker and found the switch to turn it on. He blew on the microphone to test it. It was clear it was on; he heard his breath amplified through the speakers. Into the mic he said humbly, “I am going to apologize in advance to anyone who can hear me.”

Smiling awkwardly and looking very nervous, his tongue poking out diffused the situation though and she seemed to calm a little. Standing nearby to make sure she had made it correctly. Then he mentioned having "Sex on the beach" all night and she turned beetroot red, dropping her head so her hat covered her blushes she shifted nervously, already the desire to flee from this beautiful and primal mountain of a man rearing its head. But he took a drink and by the way he downed a good amount of it then spoke his delight made her smile again, especially being called a magical one.

Ellen was a magical one, and just like the magical fae from Shakespeare's play, she was just as skittish.

Suddenly he offered her a massive hand, introducing himself as Victor or Vic, then he took her hand. It looked like a child's hand in his, he shook it gently and she reached up and took her hat off, smiling sweetly at him, her eyelashes batted coquettishly, the hint of a shy blush on her cream cheeks. He offered his arm and she slipped hers through it, like a Victorian lady, beaming as she walked her back to the safety of the bar, there wa s a little skip in her step now.

"Sure thing Vic, I doubt your singing is that bad - but, can conjure you up some Dutch courage."

Eager to please she scuttled around the bar, served beers to a few people who were waiting then started mixing - she knew just the thing to make the giant get pickled quickly. Last time she'd drunk these she couldn't remember the evening but the deputy principle refused to go out drinking with her ever again.

She took a chilled stemmed Nick & Nora glass out of the freezer and set it on the bar then filled another highball glass with ice, she added whiskey, sweet vermouth and bitters and gave it a little stir then let it stand while she served another couple from the pre-made cocktails, they both wanted sex on the beach and her eyes flicked to Vic with a blush as she served them. About thirty seconds had passed and she strained the alcohol from the ice into the chilled glass, then speared a Maraschino cherry with a cocktail stick and placed it gently inside.

"These are powerful. Go easy on them or you'll forget everything." She giggled and passed the perfectly presented and poured "Manhattan" cocktail to Vic with both hands like it were the holy grail itself.

She watched as he walked towards the stage and leaned her head on her cupped hands, imagining herself in those big powerful arms, lay on the beach as he kissed her and started to peel off her dre...

"Uhmmm miss can I get a drink?"

"Sure-sure, sorry. World of my own!" She hurried to tend bar as Vic apologised his introduction to the gathering crowd.
Ophelia looked through the list of songs they could use as a duet. She had expected Kali to just join her, not suggest to the Aussie - Vic, she had overheard him say to Ellen - to sing with her.

Not that she minded.

She turned to face him with a warm smile. "We can go with a classic like 'Don't Go Breakin' My Heart' or even go the Disney route and sing one of those. Personally, my two picks are 'Don't Go Breakin' My Heart' or 'You're the One that I Want' from Grease. What do you think?"

She wasn't really picky. It didn't matter to her what they chose, so long as they had a great time!
Victor didn’t miss the look of surprise on Ophelia’s face – it seems she had the same thought as himself, that she had invited Kali up onto the stage and not him. He gave Ophelia a sheepish grin and set the microphone down on the speaker. “My apologies,” he said to Ophelia and stepped off the stage. He headed towards Kali and said, “She was callin’ for you, lass. Not me.” He debated grabbing his board and heading back out into the surf but the blonde bombshell with her flustered ways told him to stick around a little while longer.

He headed towards the bar, a Manhattan sitting there waiting for him. He reached for it and downed it in one go. His head shot to attention as one of his eyes twitched. Whiskey was not something he was used to. He was a vodka/rum guy, as odd as they may be. In his earlier years, he had found whiskey made him foul-tempered and mean. He set the drink down and slid the empty glass towards the edge of the bar.

He waited for Ellen to come back around to him. “Ya weren’t kiddin’ about the power that was in that glass.” One drink wouldn’t mess him up that bad, he was in no danger of being an ass after only one. Victor leaned heavily on the bar, “I think I will stick to Sex on the Beach. Keep those coming.” He dug into the pocket of his shorts and pulled out a plastic baggy. He opened it and removed his credit card. He passed it to Ellen, “I got my own drinks from now on and one for my benefactor to repay the hospitality.” Ophelia had bought him a drink; he could buy her one out of friendship.

Victor slid into one of the tall, backed chairs at the bar and placed his elbows on the bar top. “So, Ellen, tell me a secret,” he said conspiratorially as he leaned in.
"Oh, I didn't -" But Vic had already left.

Damn. I didn't want to come across as rude! She was just shocked that Kali had suggested the two of them do a duet. And now she just looked like a fool for suggesting a list of songs to a man that wasn't even interested in having fun with her on the stage!

She sighed. Oh well. No worries! She wasn't interested in the man the way Ellen seemed to be. She just wanted to keep the party going and the mood festive. Besides - she didn't mind paying for the drinks! She had the money to spare, after all.

Well, if Victor was set on misconstruing her reaction, she would just brush it off. In her experience, men had a habit of assuming they knew what she was thinking when it was complete opposite!

Kali watched the scene unfold with the measured grace of someone used to chaos, tour buses, tight timelines, and pop-up concerts, but this? This was a different rhythm. Softer. Unscripted.

She saw Victor misread Opie’s pause and step down from the stage. She caught the brief flicker of confusion in Opie’s expression, and the slight shimmer of disappointment that passed between them like a missed harmony in a duet. Her heart twinged.

Still leaning casually at the edge of the bar, she stepped forward just a bit, arms unfolding as she addressed them both with her trademark warmth.

“Oh no, no, no…” Kali said, her voice dancing over the music like a breeze through hanging lights. “Don’t go breaking my heart now. You two were so close to something golden.”

She grinned at Vic as he passed her, hand lightly touching his forearm in a gesture both grounding and easygoing.

“She was calling for me, yeah,” Kali admitted, eyes flicking toward Opie with a quick wink, “but I’m not the one everyone’s here to hear. I’ve got a whole tour coming up where I’ll be center stage more than I can stand. Tonight?” She spread her hands. “This is about letting you shine. Both of you.”

She glanced between them with playful mischief. “And let’s be real—Don’t Go Breakin’ My Heart? That’s beach party royalty. You two would slay it.”

But then she softened, her tone more thoughtful. “Or not. No pressure. Sometimes a song isn’t ready to be sung yet.”

She turned to Opie with a sincere smile. “You didn’t come off rude, babe. Not for a second. You’ve got the voice of a siren and the soul of a summer storm. Anyone’s lucky to share a stage with you.”

And to Victor, she gave a gentle nudge with her shoulder. “As for you, tall drink of trouble, if you really want to make it up to her, sing her a solo later. Something with heart. I bet you’ve got more of that than you know what to do with.”

Then, just loud enough for Ellen to hear, she added over her shoulder without looking, “He’s all yours, if you’re still interested, bartender Barbie. He’s asking for secrets.”

Kali turned back toward the bonfire, her spritzer still untouched on the bar. “I think I’ll go dance barefoot in the sand until someone gets brave enough to sing Dreams. Or until Ellen drinks the rest of that Manhattan and hops onstage herself.”

She gave them all one last grin. “Party’s just getting started.”
Victor didn’t think Ophelia was being rude at all. He completely understood that the expectation was for Kali to be the duet partner, and he didn’t want to stand in the way of that. He knew for a fact the people hanging out around the bar would appreciate the vocals of two experienced and beautiful voices compared to him who had only ever sung for his shower accessories.

As he waited for another drink at the bar, hoping the misunderstanding of him taking the stage was being corrected, he came to realize a problem had emerged. He turned back to look at the stage, Ophelia looked annoyed, she was there alone and then over to Kali who was now trying to make him go back up on the stage. He put his back to the bar and raised both his hands in surrender.

He pushed away from the bar and headed back towards the stage. He stepped up next to Ophelia and said gently, “I wasn’t tryin’ ta cause drama. When I saw that expression, I knew it wasn’t me that was meant to be ya partner. But…” He gave her a hopeful look, “I’m here, though. I might not be good, but if ya wanna do this.”

He stepped over to where she thumbed through songs and he said, “So, ya kinda mentioned Disney. Ya think we can kill a classic together?” This was the best thing he had for an olive branch. She might reject his offer, he wouldn’t blame her, but he was trying to correct the wrong he had created.
Ophelia frowned as she perused new song selections. She glanced up as Victor made his way back to the stage. "But it was Kali, not me, who suggested we duet together... That's why I looked surprised. Because I wasn't expecting it. I know she and I sound nothing alike, but I can understand confusing who said what when we've only just met."

She motioned towards the bar. "I don't even know Kali or Ellen. I just met them today." She lifted a shoulder in a half shrug. "But it's no biggie. You sure you wanna do a Disney song? I know most people like to do them. And I've always been a Disney fan. We can do any song you want to, Vic!"

After all, it had only been a minor confusion. No harm was done! She was never the sort for drama, either, so she would have just ignored the little mishap that happened and found other ways to liven the party a bit more.
Victor was a man’s man. A man born on an unforgiving reef and left to figure out how to survive in life on his own. He had lived the harsh life of a pirate under the captaincy of his baby brother, and he was one hell of a scout. All that aside, Victor had never been shy about his likes and dislikes. The girl he had been involved with in those days had been all about Disney and Victor had always expressed an enjoyment in the movies and the soundtracks.

“I can do Disney,” he said confidently. “Lion King or before, please. Some of the new stuff is…yeah, no.” Out of nerves he placed both his hands flat on the small of his back and smoothed his drying board shorts over his glutes in a steady up and down motion as they looked through the catalog.

He looked over Ophelia’s shoulder as he found the Disney section. He wanted to find a song that had more female vocals then male. “Oh!” he reached around her and pointed at the title ’Love Is An Open Door’. “I know it’s later than Lion King, but I know that song. It shouldn’t be too hard for me.” He gave Ophelia time to weight in and offer any of her suggestions.

The bar had gotten busy while Vic had headed off, and when he came back and downed the Manhattan she hadn't had chance to do much more than smile and push a sex on the beach in front of him, mouthing "sorry" as a gaudily dressed couple clamoured for cocktails that weren't on the menu.

It was a battle but she eventually got the crowd down to a steady stream again before Kali came over and told her that Vic had been asking her for secrets. She seemed a little saddened that she had missed out. Looking determined she went to the back of the bar and picked up a phone handset.

"Hi Vinnie? A-ha. Yeah, I know I said I'd help out tonight but I'm dying here and I haven't had a break, I didn't know it'd get this busy. Can you send some relief please, I really need to rest for a bit." She paused as a male voice spoke and she nodded.

"Okay thanks."

A few minutes later a man in a loud Hawaiian shirt and white flannel trousers came and hopped behind the bar, his hair was slick and he wore sunglasses despite the sun being just above the horizon.

"Thanks Vinnie I couldn't do it for much longer, my feet are killing me. Oh can you light the Tiki torches?"

"No probs Ellen, go have a break and some fun, looks like you've earned it, you're almost out of liquor!" He waved her away and headed to the phone himself, the night was young and Kali's party was clearly bringing them in. He pressed a sex on the beach cocktail into Ellen's hand and shooed her from behind the bar, Ellen took her hat off and left it behind. She ducked out and looked around for Vic, but couldn't see him from her vantage point in the crowd.

Hunting around her feet did hurt, so she made her way to the big fire, sitting down on a log and just breathed. She hoped he hadn't gone home already, that would be just her luck!

A little crestfallen she took a sip of her drink and rubbed feeling into her tired, aching feet, occasionally looking up until she saw Kali dancing. She waved at her with a sad little smile and blew her fringe from her face.

Looking around the party was really going well, everyone seemed to be having fun. She slipped down off the log so it supported her back and stretched her feet out to warm them by the fire, wiggling her toes. She sucked on the straw in the cocktail and realised it was gone already so she put the glass in the sand and rolled her head back closing her eyes. Letting the atmosphere and revelry roll over her.

She just needed a minute.

Kali twirled once in the sand, the hem of her cover-up fluttering around her thighs, toes digging into the cool grains just beyond the bonfire’s reach. The energy was rising like the tide—music, laughter, new connections being stitched together under tiki light and starlight.

From the corner of her eye, she spotted Ellen by the fire, drink in hand, her body language quieter now, a little deflated in the middle of all the celebration. Kali’s spin slowed. She brushed a hand through her hair, twisting her messy bun tighter, and made her way over, weaving through the partygoers with the easy grace of someone who thrived in a crowd but always noticed when someone was fading.

She flopped onto the sand beside Ellen without ceremony, planting her elbows on her knees.

“Hey,” she said gently, nudging Ellen’s shoulder with her own. “Vinnie finally sent backup, huh? Took long enough. I owe you so many foot rubs and cocktails.”

She followed Ellen’s gaze toward the stage, where Victor and Opie were sorting out a duet. Her expression softened. “You didn’t miss anything, babe. You made tonight happen. You lit the fuse and kept the whole beach buzzing.” She picked up Ellen’s empty glass with a teasing shake. “Clearly someone’s been working hard and playing light.”

Then her voice dipped, lower and more sincere.
“For what it’s worth… he didn’t leave. He went back up to try again. Probably because he realized you were worth sticking around for.”

Kali’s gaze lingered on the fire, watching the flames dance like Opie’s voice might soon do again. “You know me,” she added with a crooked smile. “I live in the spotlight, and I love it some of the time. Not every night has to be my show. Tonight? I just wanted to build something where everyone else got to be magic. And you? You’ve been that from the start. Don’t forget it.”

She bumped her shoulder against Ellen again, playful this time. “Now go get your barefoot Cinderella moment before someone else beats you to the last good log. I think Vic’s about to sing Love Is An Open Door and you know I’m going to cry.”

Then she stood, dusted the sand off her legs, and threw Ellen a wink over her shoulder. “If he doesn’t sing it well… I will heckle. Loudly. With love.”
Ellen Marie Robinson (played anonymously)

The smell of the woodsmoke, laughter, and the soothing beat of the Karaoke machine's autoplay, it all got into Ellen's soul, she opened her eyes as she felt movement and a soft body brush against hers. She smiled up as her friend sat in the sand next to her.

"Hey Kali, yes I told Vinnie I needed a break, he's come down from the main bar as it's dead apparently we're the place to be." She smiled as Kali promised a truckload of cocktails and footrubs.

"Music to my ears, my poor tootsies are killing me." She wiggled her toes as if to illustrate her point, then rested her head on the pretty brunette's shoulder for a minute or two. Just enjoying the silent companionship of her good friend.

"Thanks Kali."

She looked over to the stage and finally caught sight of Vic, he was hunched over with Opie, finger on the song-selection screen. They seemed to be pretty deep in conversation. She pouted a little, but Kali reassured her, plumping her ego and calming her nerves. Ellen was a delicate creature sometimes and needed plenty of love and assurance, what she gave back was worth it, as her good friends knew.

"I know, but I don't know if he likes me. He's like a force of nature and... Well I can't read him." She looked over again, her heart thundered at the sight of him. She was smitten by the swarthy, handsome giant, she breathed deeply, then sighed.

Kali just sat for a few moments then soothed her again, telling her how magical she was. Making her feel her worth. Ellen's anxiety fled and she smiled, leaning in and resting her golden maned head against Kali's darker tresses.

She laughed as Kali shoulder-bumped her and told her to take her moment. It was the kick in the ass she needed.

"Thanks Kali, you always know what to say. You're a good friend and, well, I love you."

She got to her feet as Kali did, carefully she brushed off her dress and the gritty sand from her legs. Her eyes went wide and her hand to her mouth as Kali suggested heckling with love.

"Kali! I could never!" She exclaimed.

But she steeled her nerves made her way to stand at the stage, pushing her way to the front. A dainty little blonde in a spotty pink sundress, tiny in the crowd, almost invisible. But then she did something very out of character.

Putting her fingers in her mouth she did an ear-splitting whistle, making several revellers nearby jump and laugh.

"GO GET 'EM VIC!!! Woooooh!!!"

She blushed and giggled girlishly as people stared at her.

Kali grinned like a proud big sister as Ellen shot to her feet and bolted into the crowd. The whistle echoed through the night air like a firecracker, drawing laughter, cheers, and a few startled yelps from nearby revelers. Kali’s hand flew to her mouth in mock shock, but her eyes gleamed with pride.

“Oh my god, who even are you?” she called after her, laughing. “Where’s my anxious bartender and what have you done with her?!”

Still standing by the fire, Kali raised both hands to her mouth and cupped them like a megaphone.

“YOU HEARD HER, VIC! THIS IS YOUR MOMENT, BABY!”

She dropped her hands, biting back a grin, then turned back toward the flames, letting the crackle and heat wrap around her. The chorus of party sounds rose around her like a song in itself—clinking glasses, conversations overlapping, the soft roll of waves pulling back into the dark.

And somewhere in the middle of it all was Ellen. Glowing. Brave. Beaming.

Kali let herself breathe it in.

This was it. This was why she’d thrown the whole glitter-soaked bottle message idea out into the universe. Not for fame. Not for photos.

For this.

With her fingers she brushed a bit of sand from the corner of her dress and whispered just to herself, “I love you too, El.”

Then, without another word, she stepped back into the crowd, her body already swaying to the beat, ready to cheer her heart out for a red head girl and a giant with a mic.
Ophelia giggled at his song suggestion. "Well, it's not one of my favorites because my nieces constantly watch it on repeat, but that just means you're in luck, Vic!" She playfully poked his arm. "It means I know all the words by heart! So, let's sing Love is an Open Door!"

She leaned over and started up the song on the setup, then she took hold of her mic and put her all into it.

"Okay, can I just, say something crazy?"

She waited for Vic to say his part before she started singing. "All my life has been a series of doors in my face and then suddenly I bump into you!"

Ophelia wasn't static in her movements, either! She didn't just stand there and recite lyrics from Frozen, she danced on the stage and twirled around Vic as if she was reenacting the movie!
Victor was pleased, though still nervous as the song was settled on. He had turned away from the screen and went to grab the microphone off the speaker. When Ellen yelled his name his head lifted his head and looked right at her.

A smile spread his lips as he saw she had fought to the front of the crowd to cheer him on. He winked at her as he held the mic nervously up to his mouth. Kali's cheer followed Ellen's and he was red from blushing. He shook his head and took his spot next to Ophelia.

"I love crazy!" Vic said as he swirled his hips and moved up beside Ophelia.

"I was thinking the same thing!" Vic said mimicking the excited tone from the movie. "'Cause like I've been searching my whole life to find my own place
And maybe it's the party talking or the chocolate fondue..." He turned to Ophelia to get in sync with her.

"But with you
I found my place
And it's nothing like I've ever known before!
Love is an open door!" He might not sound anything like the movie but some of the nerves had left him and he started dancing and playing along with Ophelia.

"I mean it's crazy" Vic looked to Ophelia.
"We finish each other's...
That's what I was gonna say!"

"Who thinks so much like me!
Jinx! Jinx again!
Our mental synchronization
Can have but one explanation

You..
Were
Meant to be!
Say goodbye..."

To the pain of the past
We don't have to feel it anymore!
Love is an open door!
Love is an open door!
Life can be so much more!
With you!...
