Ophelia laughed. "I'll sing Crystal, then! How about you and I sing Landslide together next if no one else would like a turn? I don't like to brag and I like being humble, but I've always loved singing and been told I'm quite good at it. So... don't be too shocked if I'm on this stage more than once."

She gave a playful wink before getting up on stage and taking the mic. She went to the karaoke setup, searched for the song she wanted, and the swayed to the rhythm while waiting for her cue.

She didn't even need to look at the screen to read the lyrics. Hell, she might just sing the entire soundtrack from Practical Magic since it was one of her all-time favorite movies!

"Do you always trust your first, initial feeling? Special knowledge holds truth, bears believin'. I turned around and the water was closing all around, like a glove, like the love that had finally, finally found me..." Ophelia's voice didn't even need the mic. It was clear this wasn't her first time on a stage, and she knew just when to pull the mic away when her voice would increase.
Victor sensed nothing but nervous energy coming off Ellen from the moment he stepped up to the bar. He kept an easy smile on his lips, but he was a little concerned by her. The rhythm of her heart had taken up a furious pace and she seemed like her brain was going in three different directions at once. It wasn’t in his nature to jump to the conclusion Ellen might be acting this way because she was overwhelmed by attraction. It would make more sense to him that she might be intimidated or scared of him; it’s why he always wore a smile.

While the drinks were being made, Victor turned his attention to the drink purchaser. Her energy was a lot calmer, and he wasn’t worried about scaring her like he had the bartender. “Landslide has always been a personal favorite. But I can’t say I wouldn't mind listenin’ to you rendition of any of them songs.” Victor leaned forward, reaching towards the redhead to offer his hand politely, “Opie?” he nodded. “I’m an old-fashioned guy. I think Ophelia suits ya just fine. Opie reminds me of the Andy Griffith Show. But I am no one to talk. Name’s Victor – doesn’t get much duller than that. Your name’s got color to it.” He wasn’t trying to be rude, only making a little small talk.

Ellen brought the drinks over and Victor lit up when he saw it. “Wag-a-doo! That’s a great lookin’ bevvie.” He looked from the drink to Ellen, his smile growing significantly as he looked up to thank Ellen. However, before he could say anything he heard Kali make reference to the drinks being high pressure. His eyebrows pulled together over the bridge of his nose. He turned from Kali back to Ellen, concern on his face. “No need to feel pressured there. This looks incredible!”

He lifted the cocktail and took a long pull from the straw. He swallowed and nodded appreciatively as he set the glass down. “I like a good Blue Hawaiian normally. But Sex on the Beach your style could put me on the turps.” He had planned to try and talk to Ellen to help her calm down around him, but she disappeared away from where he was sitting so quicky that it made him feel self-conscious. He caught her wide-eyed look at him and the distress in them.

He took up his drink and moved away from the bar and over to a palm tree. He rested his back against the rough bark and lifted one of his bare feet to rest flat against the base of the tree. He looked out over the waves and to listen Ophelia's voice as she sang.

Kali leaned against the corner of the bar, one elbow propped casually as her spritzer dangled from her fingers. The moment Opie stepped on stage, the shift was palpable. It was as if the ocean had taken a breath and the wind itself leaned in to listen.

As the first verse of Crystal spilled from Opie’s lips, Kali’s jaw parted slightly in awe. Her gaze flicked to the fire, to the string lights, to the way the beach seemed to quiet all at once. Magic. Absolute magic.

Without even realizing it, Kali began to sing along, softly—just under her breath, like a harmony slipping through seafoam.

“Do you always trust your first, initial feeling…”

Her eyes stayed locked on Opie, admiration lighting her features. She didn’t want the spotlight tonight. She wanted to make space for someone else to shine. Her tour with Tyler was about to throw her right back into the glare of flashing cameras and midnight rehearsals. But here, under open sky and salt-licked air, this moment was for them.

She looked over to Victor leaning against the palm tree, watching quietly, and smiled warmly.

When Opie reached the chorus, Kali let her voice float a little louder, still from her place at the bar. Not enough to compete, just enough to support.

And when the final note settled over the beach like the last shimmer of sun on water, Kali clapped both hands together above her head.

“Opie!” she called out, practically glowing. “You’re gonna make me cry in my own drink. That was gorgeous. I’m not even mad that you sound like you’ve got Stevie’s soul living in your throat.”

She stepped away from the bar and looked toward Victor with a mischievous little smirk. “And speaking of perfect pairings…” she said, eyes twinkling. “You have to do Landslide together. I’m serious. Her voice? Your heart? Instant classic.”

Then she gave an exaggerated shrug. “Unless you two want to wait until the second round, in which case I’ll start the petition for a closing duet.”

Kali looked back up at the stage with a content sigh. “This is exactly what I wanted tonight to be.”

"Breathe..."

Catching sight of Kali's mouth urging quiet encouragement and her supporting glance. Ellen nodded and snatched another look back towards the bar. He had seemed to enjoy the drink, or said something that sounded like he enjoyed the drink anyway, Ellen would have to brush up on her Auzzie. She closed her eyes and started to breathe more deeply. She was always like this, see a guy she liked then flee in terror. It was like she was doomed to flee from every guy she ever liked. Kali had teased her about it on many an occasion, she just seemed to be made of jelly on the inside.

The music started up and Opie started to sing, she was pretty good and Ellen walked to the bar to watch, she could see Kali singing along. The tall Australian had taken her flight reaction as his cue to move away and she saw him sat enjoying his drink under a palm tree, stood cool as a cucumber.

The sun lowered in the sky as Opie crooned and Ellen resolved to make things straight with the guy, apologise if nothing else!

She moved to the optics and started to work in a frenzy, Combining rum, blue Curacao, pineapple juice, cream of coconut, and crushed ice in a blender, she blend it on the highest setting until it was like a smoothie then poured it lovingly into chilled highball glass finally garnishing it with a slice of pineapple a maraschino cherry and a paper parrot.

She put the money for the drink into the register herself then headed over to where the tall Australian demigod stood taking his ease, the song was winding down and Kali was chatting to Opie. She felt tiny and awkward as she headed over, bare feet scuffing the sand into tracks, she cradled the drink as if it would bite her. Waiting as Kali suggested song choices to him then looked back at the stage, Ellen pounced on her moment.

"Hi-hi, hi there, sorry I got a little rattled. I'm just not used to people being so tall... And handsome..." She added the second part more quietly and offered the lovingly crafted light-blue drink to him.

"Your Blue Hawaiian, I'm sorry. I'm quite a nervous person, but that's no reason to be rude and I think I've upset you. In my panic I didn't catch your name."

Her big brown eyes were cast down, hat covering most of her face - occasionally snatching looks up into his as she shuffled her feet in the sand.
Victor hadn’t expected to be invited to sing with Ophelia. He had honestly thought she was inviting someone else. He stammered a little as he hadn’t consumed anywhere near enough liquid courage to be climbing up onto that stage with someone who he could, in no way, compliment their voice. “I…” Victor looked around the beach, clearly wanting to be saved.

He cleared his throat as he realized there was no escape. “Seemed there is no such thing as ‘free’,” he said as he lifted the glass up and tilted his head back. He chugged down the Sex on the Beach in two massive swallows. When he lowered the glass Ellen was standing beside him and had started to speak. His blue-grey eyes shifted to give her his full attention. “Yeah. A lot of people don’t like to stand near by ‘cause of that,” he shrugged lightheartedly. He heard her say the word ’handsome’ but he let it pass, worried that if he called attention to it, it might fluster her again.

She offered him the Blue Hawaiian and he took it as his tongue peeked out from between his teeth, an impish smile on his lips. He took the offered drink and gave Ellen a mischievous look. “And here I thought we would having Sex on Beach all night.” He offered her a wink and took a solid pull from the highball glass. He swallowed and smacked his lips a little, “Oh yeah! You’re a magical one.”

Victor offered his hand to Ellen, “No need to be worried around me, Missy. I’m just a guy who wanders about, no one special. Name’s Victor. Ya can call me Vic if you ya don’t like to be formal.” If Ellene allowed, he would take her hand in his hand give it a light shake, more of just a hold, but it could be considered a shake.

Victor, trying to show Ellen she could be herself around him, offered her his arm to escort her back over to the bar. As they walked, he asked for a huge favor, “Can ya fix me up another drink to help me forget what I am about ta do?” He had a natural self-deprecating sense of humor. Not enough to make people around him feel awkward, but it was clear he didn’t take himself too seriously. “Oh an’,” he offered Ellen and playful wink, “plug your ears. I can’t be held responsible for damage done.” He then chugged down the Blue Hawaiian to give himself a little extra courage.

He placed both empty glasses on the bar and turned towards the stage and headed that way. He stepped up onto the platform and looked at Ophelia. “How ya wanna do this? Just sing together at the same time?” Victor had seen karaoke done before, but he had never participated before.

He was nervous but he didn’t shake, nor did his voice quiver; his heart just beat a little faster and he breathed a little deeper. He found a second microphone resting a speaker and found the switch to turn it on. He blew on the microphone to test it. It was clear it was on; he heard his breath amplified through the speakers. Into the mic he said humbly, “I am going to apologize in advance to anyone who can hear me.”

Smiling awkwardly and looking very nervous, his tongue poking out diffused the situation though and she seemed to calm a little. Standing nearby to make sure she had made it correctly. Then he mentioned having "Sex on the beach" all night and she turned beetroot red, dropping her head so her hat covered her blushes she shifted nervously, already the desire to flee from this beautiful and primal mountain of a man rearing its head. But he took a drink and by the way he downed a good amount of it then spoke his delight made her smile again, especially being called a magical one.

Ellen was a magical one, and just like the magical fae from Shakespeare's play, she was just as skittish.

Suddenly he offered her a massive hand, introducing himself as Victor or Vic, then he took her hand. It looked like a child's hand in his, he shook it gently and she reached up and took her hat off, smiling sweetly at him, her eyelashes batted coquettishly, the hint of a shy blush on her cream cheeks. He offered his arm and she slipped hers through it, like a Victorian lady, beaming as she walked her back to the safety of the bar, there wa s a little skip in her step now.

"Sure thing Vic, I doubt your singing is that bad - but, can conjure you up some Dutch courage."

Eager to please she scuttled around the bar, served beers to a few people who were waiting then started mixing - she knew just the thing to make the giant get pickled quickly. Last time she'd drunk these she couldn't remember the evening but the deputy principle refused to go out drinking with her ever again.

She took a chilled stemmed Nick & Nora glass out of the freezer and set it on the bar then filled another highball glass with ice, she added whiskey, sweet vermouth and bitters and gave it a little stir then let it stand while she served another couple from the pre-made cocktails, they both wanted sex on the beach and her eyes flicked to Vic with a blush as she served them. About thirty seconds had passed and she strained the alcohol from the ice into the chilled glass, then speared a Maraschino cherry with a cocktail stick and placed it gently inside.

"These are powerful. Go easy on them or you'll forget everything." She giggled and passed the perfectly presented and poured "Manhattan" cocktail to Vic with both hands like it were the holy grail itself.

She watched as he walked towards the stage and leaned her head on her cupped hands, imagining herself in those big powerful arms, lay on the beach as he kissed her and started to peel off her dre...

"Uhmmm miss can I get a drink?"

"Sure-sure, sorry. World of my own!" She hurried to tend bar as Vic apologised his introduction to the gathering crowd.
Ophelia looked through the list of songs they could use as a duet. She had expected Kali to just join her, not suggest to the Aussie - Vic, she had overheard him say to Ellen - to sing with her.

Not that she minded.

She turned to face him with a warm smile. "We can go with a classic like 'Don't Go Breakin' My Heart' or even go the Disney route and sing one of those. Personally, my two picks are 'Don't Go Breakin' My Heart' or 'You're the One that I Want' from Grease. What do you think?"

She wasn't really picky. It didn't matter to her what they chose, so long as they had a great time!
