As night washed over the crown jewel of the Kalos region, the usual battle zones had propped up and while there were a handful of trainers participating in the Royale Z-A, most of the night's activity was reserved for its annual Halloween celebrations. Children were trick-or-treating, troublemakers were playing pranks with their Ghost-types, and the adults were hosting all sorts of events at the local cafes and market stalls. Among the ones celebrating the spooky night was renowned Royale Z-A challenger, Mihara. In an effort to draw more business for Hotel Z, he decided to host a festive party at the hotel, decorated with the help of the Spinarak and Ariados h's captured while his Gastly, Froslass, and Chandelure helped add to the spooky atmosphere. Candy, fresh baked treats, and sugary beverages lined the tables, games were set up for visitors to enjoy, and of course, he made sure to not so subtly set out some papers for guests to book a room if they enjoy the night's festivities.
"Alright... the Spinarak and Ariados have finished decorating, the Ghost types are accounted for. The food and drinks look great, the hotel's clean... I think that's everything." Mihara hummed, looking rather proud of his work. His other Pokemon took care of other roles; Gyarados and Feraligatr served as guards; watching for troublemakers. Talonflame and Beedrill watched from the skies, meanwhile Meowstic and Mawile remained with their trainer; helping him with the final checks. "Everything looks good, now we just play the waiting game. I hope they like the Litwick shaped rice treats, at least."

Nurse Joy & Chansey
"Even ghosts deserve a little care on Halloween."
The soft click of polished shoes echoed across the marble floor before Nurse Joy appeared in the doorway, white coat bright against the amber light of the hotel. Chansey followed close behind, clutching a pumpkin-shaped first-aid basket. Both wore small jack-o’-lantern pins on their uniforms.
“Good evening!” she greeted warmly, eyes sweeping the lobby’s ghostly décor. “I came to check on the local Ghost-types. Sometimes they get a bit… over-enthusiastic when there’s this much sugar and mischief in the air.”
Her smile deepened as she caught sight of the tables lined with treats. “Oh my, Litwick-shaped rice snacks? That’s absolutely precious. Did you make these yourself?” She leaned closer, genuine admiration in her tone. “You have quite the talent for balancing spooky and sweet.”
Chansey offered a cheerful “Chan-sey!” and began passing out small band-aid stickers to a few children darting past.
Nurse Joy folded her hands behind her back, clearly not in a hurry to leave. “Mind if I linger a bit? It’s rare I get to enjoy an event without patching up an over-excited trainer. Besides, I’d love to hear how you managed to train a Chandelure to behave so beautifully indoors.”
(I hope you don’t make mind some NPCs stopping by. I don’t have any Pokemon characters, but I wanted to write with you a bit)
"Nurses, Chansey, everyone's welcomed to partake in the festivities! With the Royale Z-A going on, I'm sure you don't get many chances to take a break." Mihara replied, a cheerful grin to match the energetic tone he spoke with. "Oh, I was hoping they'd cause a little mischief, of course, they won't be too troublesome so long as Gyarados is around." He explained, offering one of the rice treats.
"They took more than a few attempts... I've got a few botched batches in the hotel fridge. They taste fine, but I wasn't able to get the shape right." Mihara added, offering her and the Chansey one of the treats. "Please, relax and have some fun. We've got games, treats, and I'm sure I'll have some stories with Chandelure. It might seem like a terrifying Pokemon, but it's real sweet once you get to know it. It enjoys the spooky atmosphere as much as anyone, though I know it's itching to return to the tournament tomorrow."

Nurse Joy & Chansey
“Even ghosts deserve a little care on Halloween.”
Nurse Joy accepted the rice treat with both hands, eyes brightening at the soft glow of the Litwick-shaped design. “Oh, Mihara, this is wonderful! You’ve truly outdone yourself,” she said sincerely. “Not only are they adorable, but the aroma alone could win a culinary ribbon at any Pokémon Center bake sale.”
Chansey nodded with delight, already nibbling daintily at her own treat, the pumpkin basket jiggling at her side.
“I must say,” Joy continued with a playful smile, “if all your events are this charming, I may start recommending your hotel to visiting trainers needing rest between matches.” Her gaze shifted toward the floating Chandelure nearby, admiration softening her tone. “It’s not every day I see a Ghost-type so calm in a crowd. You’ve really earned its trust.”
Just then, the lobby doors slammed open with the force of a staged performance, scattering a few napkins into the air.
Jessie & Meowth
“Prepare for trouble, because I smell free food!”
Jessie of Team Rocket swept into the room like a gust of overconfident wind, purple hair gleaming under the chandelier. “Well, well, if it isn’t Kalos’ favorite hotelier playing chef tonight,” she purred, hand on her hip. “How thoughtful of you to throw a celebration and leave the doors unlocked. It’s almost like you wanted me here.”
Meowth darted in behind her, already eyeing the candy tables. “Jessie, we ain’t stealin’ nothin’ tonight! We’re supposed to be on vacation!”
“Quiet, Meowth,” Jessie snapped lightly, scooping up a Litwick rice treat anyway. “A woman must keep her strength up if she’s to look this stunning while causing minimal crime.”
She winked dramatically at Mihara. “Lovely décor, darling. Very haunting chic. If Team Rocket ever opens a luxury hideout, you’ll be first on the guest list.”
With a twirl of her cape and an echo of laughter, she was gone as swiftly as she arrived, Meowth chasing after her with an exasperated groan.
Nurse Joy & Chansey
Nurse Joy blinked once, the smallest sigh slipping through her smile. “Ah… I see Kalos hospitality extends even to the theatrically inclined.” She glanced at Mihara, her laughter soft but genuine. “You handled that better than most officers I know.”
Chansey chirped reassuringly and straightened the tablecloth Jessie had disturbed.
“Well,” Joy said warmly, lifting her treat once more, “between the ghosts, the games, and the unexpected visitors, I’d say your event is already a success. Thank you for letting us be part of it, Mihara.”
She raised her rice treat like a toast, eyes gleaming kindly. “To sweet nights and safe battles, and to hosts who can handle a little mischief with grace.”
Chansey echoed her with a cheerful “Chan-sey!” before returning to help hand out candy to passing children.
"Oh, I'm glad you enjoy them. I was worried I'd overdone it with the sweetness." Mihara grinned, proud to see the time he spent on them wasn't wasted after all. "We'll do anything to get word out about the hotel. It might not be as glamorous as some of the ones around town, but it has its own charms." He'd briefly step over to help an excitable looking kid figure out how the ring toss game before returning to Nurse Joy.
"Ghost types get a bad rep most of the time. People hear the horror stories and think they're all like that, but like with any Pokemon, a little love and affection go a long way. It took time, but I'd say it was well worth the effort to get it here." Mihara replied, taking some time to replenish to now empty drink table.
However, as Jessie suddenly appeared and moved over the tables like a whirlwind, Mihara stood in a confused, stunned silence, even as he was spoken to. He had no idea who she was nor did he have any idea how to respond to them. The talking Meowth only added to his confusion, but they disappeared as quickly as they appeared. Standing in his stunned silence for a moment longer, his Meowstic hit him with a weakened Thunderbolt to snap him out of it.
"That was... odd. I'm not sure I handled much of anything. Whatever that was, I'm glad it was only brief." Mihara laughed awkwardly, rubbing the back of his head slightly. "Thank you, though. I'm glad you had a chance to enjoy yourself here. Even after the party's over, feel free to come by. I'd be glad to prepare some coffee or tea for you."

Officer Jenny & Growlithe
“Keeping the peace, one pumpkin at a time!”
The faint jingle of metal and a confident set of footsteps announced her before she even appeared in the doorway. Officer Jenny strode into the hotel lobby with her usual brisk authority, Growlithe trotting smartly at her heel. Both wore matching pumpkin orange badges for the occasion, the officer’s pinned neatly to her uniform, the pup’s tied to his collar with a festive ribbon.
“Well, well,” she said with a wry smile, taking in the décor. “I was responding to a report of suspicious activity, something about phantoms loitering near the pastry table, but it looks like I’ve walked straight into the most well behaved Halloween party in Lumiose City.”
Growlithe barked once, tail wagging at the sweet smell in the air.
Jenny leaned one hand on her hip, the other absently scratching behind his ear. “Tell me, Mihara, should I be writing up a ticket for illegal levels of sugar? Or did your Chandelure get a permit for that much atmosphere?” Her teasing tone was light, but her eyes sparkled with approval as she scanned the smiling guests and cheerful Pokémon.
When her gaze landed on Nurse Joy, she laughed softly. “Ah, good, if the nurse is still standing, that means the Ghost types are behaving. That’s usually my measure for whether I can relax.”
Growlithe padded closer to the table, sniffing curiously at one of the Litwick shaped rice treats. Jenny crouched beside him, breaking one in half and offering it up. “These are adorable, and smell surprisingly edible. I might have to cite you for violating local bake sale standards though. Competition like this could cause riots at the precinct.”
Straightening again, she tipped her cap to Mihara with a grin. “In all seriousness, you’ve done a fantastic job here. I came to make sure things were safe, and it looks like you’ve managed to make ‘haunted’ feel downright cozy. That’s a rare talent.”
She paused as Growlithe nudged her leg, giving a happy bark. Jenny sighed theatrically. “Yes, yes, I know. You want to stay for the games.” Her expression softened as she looked back toward Mihara. “Alright then. We’ll stick around for one round, maybe two, but only if you promise to save me a cup of whatever blend you’re serving. Coffee, not tea. I’m still on duty, after all.”
Growlithe barked again, tail thumping against the floor like a drumbeat of approval.
Jenny smiled, slipping into a relaxed stance beside the table. “Besides,” she added lightly, “it’s not every night I get to patrol a party guarded by a Gyarados. I think I’ll sleep easier knowing the city’s in such unique hands.”
Orna skated as far as she could toward the hotel lobby, immediately checking her skates at the door and proceeding into the finest party she had seen - spiderwebby decorations, glittering ice and punch, towers of food, and the shadows and babble of Pokemon floating about all the crowd.
"Hello!" Orna said, avoiding eye contact as she did not want to battle right now. "Trick or Treat!"
Grinning from under her Gastly facepaint, she held out her Haunter bag to the employee and waited for candy.
Oh, oops. Maybe this was the host. "Uhh, sorry, am I supposed to must get treats from the table? This is my first time here, please take care of me." She lowered her candy sack, embarrassed.

"Yeah, I suppose that's my fault. The old hotel, the Spinarak all over the walls, and the few Ghost types roaming around. I could see how one comes to that conclusion. Don't worry, everything's safe, I promise. Not with Gyarados and Feraligatr watching over everything, they're on their best behavior." Mihara said proudly, shaking off the confusion from the earlier encounter with the strange woman and her Meowth. "I didn't know there was an illegal amount, but if there is, then I plead guilty as charged. I wanted to make sure everything was sweet as can be."
He laughed at the threat of citation, waving his hands dismissively. "With the Royale Z-A going on, I don't have much time for baking competitions, so that won't be a problem. Today was a rare night off and what better way to celebrate than with some sweet treats and good spooks?" Mihara stepped towards the drink table, a playful grin crossing his face. "Plenty of coffee provided by the local cafes, and some donuts to go with them. Please, help yourselves."
The sound of another guest caught his attention, grinning happily at the sight of her Gastly facepaint. "Oh, I'm glad you said something to me, I was about ready to try and catch you." Mihara said teasingly, dropping a couple pieces of candy into her bag. "First time, huh? Welcome to Hotel Z... and by extension, Lumiose City!"

Officer Jenny & Growlithe
“Keeping the peace, one pumpkin at a time!”
Jenny accepted the offered cup of coffee with a grateful nod, the rising steam softening her usual sharp edge. “You know, Mihara, I think I might actually have to make this part of my patrol route from now on. Safer for the city. Better for morale.”
Growlithe barked in agreement before promptly rolling onto his back beside the table, tongue lolling and paws kicking in contentment. Jenny sighed, crouching to scratch his belly. “And here I was hoping to keep a little dignity tonight.” She gave the pup a fond pat, then rose to her feet with a chuckle.
Her attention flicked toward the young woman with Gastly paint and a Haunter bag, her expression softening instantly. “You’re in the right place, sweetheart,” she assured with a reassuring smile. “Just make sure you don’t try to arrest the candy before eating it. Trust me, I’ve seen it happen.”
She tipped her cap toward Mihara again, her grin returning. “Everything checks out here. No suspicious ghouls, no unlicensed sugar smuggling. Just good company and a few Pokémon behaving better than my officers on a night off.”
Reaching down, she gave Growlithe’s leash a gentle tug. “Come on, partner. Let’s let them enjoy their party.”
Growlithe barked once in farewell, tail wagging furiously as Jenny turned to the door. “Thank you for the hospitality,” she called over her shoulder. “And Mihara, next time I find myself in Lumiose, I expect another cup of that coffee. Consider it… official police business.”
With that, she stepped back into the cool night air, Growlithe trotting faithfully beside her as their silhouettes disappeared into the street’s flickering lantern light.
"Of course, I promise the square will be shinier than Avalugg's back on a sunny day by tomorrow morning." Mihara promised her, a cheerful grin crossing his face as he spoke. "Don't be a stranger, even after the party, Hotel Z's always welcoming visitors and if we ever cross paths on the street, don't be shy to grab some coffee with me. I'm always up to share a cup with a friend."
Briefly glancing towards his Talonflame that was patiently perched on the roof nearby, Mihara's smile widened. "If you run into any trouble, we'll be there to help. My eyes in the sky will make sure nothing happens here, or elsewhere in the city."

Thank you for the Pokemon fun. I haven’t done anything Pokemon related since Pokemon Go first came out. That has been a long minute. Writing this brought back some fond memories.

"I'd escape from anything but a Master ball!" Orna laughed. "Thanks for the candy and the welcome! I'm going to look around for skatable areas later, but I'll totally check out the hotel services first. I have my Lucky Scarf on, so I should be able to avoid.... anything too scary. I saw some crazy stuff about Ghost pokemon on the news yesterday, and I mean, they get a bad rap, but still... Gotta be on the lookout! This hotel seems safe though."
Saying a polite goodbye, Orna exchanged somr trainer cards, waved goodbye, and stopped to try some rice treats before fitting her skates back on and heading back into the cityscape.
