Hank Oakley (played anonymously)

Hank was moving at the tail end of the parade. It was actually where he preferred to be. Unlike the costumed performers and cosplayers, he saw all around, he himself was wearing his normal western style clothing. He had a red, white, and blue bandana on, but that was about it. The real star was the flesh and blood animal he was riding. He gave his horse a little pat as if to say, "you're doing a good job buddy." A couple of children pointed with excitement, their little mouths forming an O.

"Horsie!" They cheered.

Hank gave a smile and waved.
When dealing with animals he preferred to be in the back in case something happened.

Not that he had the slightest worry that anything would happen. His horse, Duke, was about as docile as they get. He was thoroughly desensitized to crowds and loud noises so none of this would bother the horse in the slightest. Hank wasn't actually considering walking in the parade, but his family insisted he go and why not take Duke? Of course, his family also insisted in "decorating" Duke, so he was worthy of a parade, in their words.

Duke very unconcernedly continued to plod forward, his hooves making a soothing clip, clop noise on the pavement.

"I'm thinking you enjoy this more than me, Duke ol' boy."

Duke right on cue tossed his head and snorted as if agreeing with the statement and Hank chuckled. It was a beautiful day for a parade.

The horses and other live animals had intentionally been placed near the end of the parade. The obvious reason was the mess they created and that way the street sweeper could hopefully clean the mess before the street re-opened. The driver strategically drifted back and forth as if a video game character intercepting its target.

All the while, the machine stayed a respectable distance to avoid spooking the animals or causing any scares should the floats ahead stop unexpectedly. There were a few brief pauses here and there as floats bunched up. Occasionally, it was necessary to speed up to close gaps. The procession struggled to maintain a consistent speed, but overall things were going well.

Up at the front, Adam continued to smile and wave as the police car and colorguard turned on yet another street. The entire parade was now mid-way between the beginning and end points. There were still a few blocks to cover before the lead end of the parade got to the finish line, so there were still spectators who had not seen any of the action yet. The energy level remained high and the crowd kept up its enthusiasm. It was refreshing to see everyone come together and set the word's problems aside, if only for a brief time.

OOC: We're in the home stretch. Unfortunately, I am going to have to cut the event short. There is still time to participate, but due to an upcoming scheduled business trip, I plan to wrap this thread and close things up on July 7. Everyone is invited to continue to participate and newcomers are still welcome. Please read the intro post for guidelines.
