i'm always curious to see how everyone decorates for the season, especially the trees! if you celebrate something other than christmas, that's totally cool too! :D

perhaps you've handmade some decorations, or have some that have been passed down through your family?

let's talk about recipes too, what's your favorite winter food?

my mother makes rowanberry jam/jelly from our own tree, and it's better than cranberry imo. if you have some trees nearby which look like this and they're away from pollution, you should give it a try too! there's a ton of online recipes and it's fantastic with cold meats.

Aaaah I'm excited to see all the decorations!

Here is my tree!

I don't really have any favorite winter foods, but I do like some good mulled wine (Glühwein) on cold winter evenings. :)

I like to make hippocras and mulled mead for the holidays sometimes, but it's really all about my mom's cranberry orange walnut bread. Redbeard and I usually get a little live tree to decorate and then plant, but we haven't gotten ours yet this year. We celebrate "secular Christmas" and are forming our own weird little rituals as the years go by, like Windirsnott, which is marked by the first frost. It's a time to celebrate the fleeting nature of our existence and how that only makes the bonds of friendship and family more important. (The lead singer of the band Windir went backpacking to his parents' for Christmas, but was caught in a freak blizzard and froze.)

Woooo!

Normally, we bake treats and put up the tree on the same day. So this year my parents decorated while I made some sugar cookies, complete with white chocolate chips. (They're already all gone!)

But I do plan on baking a cake tomorrow since I didn't get the chance to today. I tend to bake a lot during Christmas!

Here's our tree! (Currently looking like it's exploding from an Amazon package. We didn't get a chance to wrap the box in wrapping paper yet lmao)

this stuff is the superior wine. i usually buy like 10 bottles when they're discounted after xmas so i can keep a stockpile. *u* those candles are super cute!

7/10 not enough glitter. :P it's looking hella fancy, i love those butterflies, it's like part of a fairytale forest!
We have a 10 foot tree which is 3/4s decorated. Later on, we will have my uncles company picnic which i am always a guest off since there is a lot of family/friends there. Then a little after that, my dad makes Kolaches although this isn't the recipe we use. We makes several dozen and mails them out to his 9 siblings and they always arrive fresh.
We haven't gotten around to pick up a Christmas tree yet, so we just put up our regular decorations so far. We're missing one box with decorations, and we're not completely sure the it is... Probably somewhere in the basement's storage room...

This is a Christmas calendar, which my mom's coworker made for me when I was about 1 year old. The little rings on the bottom and top of it let one hang small presents on it, for the child to open each day until Christmas. There 24 rings, because we celebrate Christmas on the 24th.

Their is our calendar "table", where my boyfriend and I put up our calendars. His is an old-school one I got for him last year, and the Dumle chocolate calendar is mine and from my mom. The stars on the left are some that I make every year, and I hang them all over the apartment and on the Christmas tree. This year I made too many, so I had to give them away - whoopsie! The ornaments under the books to the left are made by my boyfriend's mom. We normally decorate the tree with them, but I've been hanging them here and there in the apartment until we get the tree.

Probably the most important decoration in the apartment!

It's made mostly from fabric, yes, glued on to something I suspect to be a wooden board. Some of the details, like the rack above the lady's head, is made from other materials :)
And yes, Kali is turning in to quite the little lady! She'll be turning 1 year on the 18th of this month! And yes, I am throwing her a party.
