Well hi! I've very recently been informed of this site's existence (and I am so so so happy and excited and grateful that it does exist) by a friend. I've been roleplaying for about 10 years now, although I am a little ashamed to admit that I did start out with symbol roleplay... (In my defense, it was what I was taught, and you only know what you know until you find out there's more out there) But I promise that I type in all the right perspectives now, with not an asterisk in sight 
I'm most fond of character development Roleplay. While I don't mind the odd fight scene, or little bit of violence, it's just not really my thing to do full out battle scenes (not that I'm not insanely jealous of the people who can write them well). I've always been very invested in creating very well thought out, evenly developed characters (who I will admit, I do tend to get quite attached to) There's just something about creating this person along with everything that motivates them, holds them back, and makes them tick that's so fascinating to me.
A little about the not-attached-to-my-laptop-keyboard me: I'm a Registered Nurse, working in Operating Theatre, which is the area that I'm passionate about. I have one pet cat, four pet rats, and I live vicariously through other people's dogs. My hobbies include reading copious amounts of books, binge watching an unhealthy amount of TV shows, some gaming, baking, and managing field hockey teams in the winter. I live in the land of the Hobbit (sadly, vaguely height appropriate). And I've started playing D&D over the last year or so, which I absolutely love since it's a bit of an extension on RP.
While I am currently on holiday, I look forward to making a whole bunch of new roleplay friends (it's seriously been too long, the site where I originally learned RP had it's community really drastically drop off about 6 years ago) and engaging in some great topics. Once I have a chance to fully explore the site and get used to it, I'm sure I'll have a ton of questions, so I'll gladly take you up on your offer after my vacation is over
As for genre, a majority of the Roleplay I've been involved in has been medieval and/or supernatural themed. So by default I've become quite fond of that. But really I just love well-thought out concepts/worlds, and I do enjoy doing the research for any and all settings.

Oh wow ten years I quite aa long time! I've only been rping for maybe five so that's pretty amazing in my book!
