For those of you who don't rabidly follow everything happening on Mars, most of those probes were either based off of real ones, or on ones that have been proposed for the near future. We (as a planet, all nations with space programs combined) have crashed more probes on Mars than we have successfully landed. It turns out, it's a really rough environment to land in.
Picking out the shapes of real landers in the background was like a mini game.
