Shawn deftly avoided the question, instead looking at her schedule. "K101? That's a room- the K hallway is straight down here and to the left, look for the little sign thingy that says 101." Sign thingy- he sounded so intelligent right at that moment. "Same thing with all the other rooms on here. It looks like we're in Biology and English together... I'll see you then, I've got to get to Algebra. Remember, the letter is the hallway and the number is the number of the room. Don't worry, it's real easy to get around once you get the hang of it."

Sunset nodded to his instructions. "Letter is the hallway and the number is the room. Got it." She smiled at him gratefully. "Don't know what I'do without you!" She ruffled his hair and then took off to go to class to avoid saying 'Thank you'. She was one of the first to get to the classroom which gave her the advantage of choosing where to sit. A seat near the window would be the best. If there was any opportunity of feeling the sunlight on her skin, she'd take it. Slowly, the classroom filled and the teacher arrived too.

He watched her go for a moment, then shook his head, his face itching to break into a grin. She was odd girl, but he liked her all the better for it. She wasn't mashing his face in the dirt so that was a great improvement.
He ran a hand through his hair to fix it a bit, considering she had ruffled the thick black shagginess, before slipping off to Algebra. He sat in his normal spot- first row, desk at the far right- and was lost in the lessons for an hour or so. He was a little weird in that he liked math, as vile as most people found it, but it was structured and organized. Once he got the rules down, he'd never have to worry about them changing. Structure, organization, and routines were important to the boy, and that was one of the things math offered him. It was almost comforting, in a strange way.
Eventually though, it ended, and Biology was next. Science was pretty cool, in his opinion, and it was one of the few subjects and classes he actually talked a lot about. Normally he was quiet and reserved but science got him out of his shell, if just a little.
Again, same spot, first row, far right.

Sunset wasn't much of a Science girl. Too much facts, too little imagination. It went against everything she was. She met a really funny guy who just couldn't stop telling jokes, about everything. And now she couldn't stop laughing. That was how she walked into her next class with him. Her eyes even had tears in them. Wiping them, she saw Shawn and went to sit next to him. "This school thing is going really good." She leaned towards him and whispered, "Has someone bothered you again?"

"Not yet," he replied with a shake of the head, noting the way she phrased the sentence but not really pursuing the topic. Maybe she had been homeschooled or something before and now she was entering the school system; he didn't know, and didn't want to ask if it was something touchy. "Not yet. I bet something'll come up at lunch, though. That's normally when stuff goes down."
He quieted down a little as the teacher started talking about the heart. Such a curious thing: so small and kind of ugly, and yet so significant. Never ceasing, never tiring. It was a fascinating thing if he thought about it enough.

She sobered at the thought of something happening at lunch. High school was supposed to be fun, and he was definetely not having that experience. "I hope not." She noticed he was really interested in what the teacher was talking about. Most students looked bored, and flipped the pages of the textbook lazily, but not Shawn. Sunset tried to take as many notes as possible but she'd need help with this. There were a lot of things she just couldn't wrap her mind around.

Shawn was, perhaps, one of the only students in the school that found everything remotely interesting. Therefore he was labeled a nerd and was nearly killed on a daily basis. Still, he didn't care; he liked everything here and he realized that he'd need everything for college if he tried to go and do something with his life, which was his plan. He doubted any of the slugs who went to school here were going to go far. Shawn could be patient, he'd pass them up eventually.
After Biology it was one more period- for him, Social Studies- and then lunch. He was already bracing himself for it. Undoubtedly having Sunset with him would attract some kind of negative attention, but the last thing he wanted was for her to get dragged into something that wasn't her own fault. He'd have to try to keep things simple, if just for her sake.

When the bell signaling Biology was over rang, she got up, gathering her stuff and then smiled warmly at Shawn. He was her first friend and she planned on sticking with him for as long as her stay in the mortal world lasted. "I'll see you at... lunchtime!" Sunset said goodbye with a wave of her hand, skipping to her next class. Art.

"Best day ever!" She squealed as she walked out her Art class. Splattered with paint, she was all smiles. Most of her classmates had been really nice and there even seemed to be an 'Art club' Who knew? Maybe she'd join. There was also the rumor of a party that weekend. She was planning on dragging Shawn along with her. Sure, he must had experience with that kind of events.

The last party Shawn had gone to was six years ago, back when he was eight. Parties were strange things for him, considering he was socially awkward and too weird for most people. Shane didn't exactly help matters, so the two had been shunned. Although a party might do Shawn good, get him to come out of his shell a little. Either that or it'd cause him to suffer a fatal heart attack and die of extreme shyness.
You never knew until you actually did it.
Anyways, Shawn was hiding in the corner of the cafeteria, digging through the bag that held his lunch for the day. He was waiting for Sunset to get there; hopefully she hadn't gotten lost or something on the way here. It had been known to happen before. Still, she was smart and could probably find her way around without too much guidance on his part.
He hoped any incidents would happen before she got there, since her reaction to the simple harassment this morning was not exactly comforting, but unfortunately for him, none did.

All Sunset had to do is to follow the rest of her fellows. In a matter of seconds, she was in the cafeteria, a large place filled with tables and the smell of food everywhere. Some had these triangle-shaped things that she supposed were made of flour, based on their resemblance to simple bread. She wanted to try one of those! Before joining Shawn, she went to get a piece of 'pizza'. There were some whispers around her about why would someone dye her hair purple, and about her being friends with Shawn. Some even said they've known each other for moths and that she used to be her girlfriend but dumped him, and other crazy stories. They don't have much talent to be storytellers; Sunset thought when she heard a group of girls talking about it in the line for the pizza.

After getting her food, she walked towards were Shawn was. "Hi."

His face lit up when he saw her approach, a smile twitching at the edges of his lips. "Hey, Sunset. You've got some paint on your face." It was a little random but he wanted to point that out, in case she didn't know. He knew some girls got really titchy about how they looked, and he didn't know yet if she was one of them.
He bit placidly into the sandwich he had brought from home, taking a moment to look around the room. Shane was all the way on the other side, in his usual corner, doing his best to stay away from everybody. The guys from earlier, the ones who had kicked his pencil and thrown rocks, were watching him the way wolves watch a wounded deer. He figured he had maybe five minutes before they pounced, so he started eating a little faster, trying to devour as much of his sandwich as he could before they came over. Last time he had been too slow and they'd squashed it into the floor and he hadn't had much of anything for lunch that day. Being the skinny little twig he was, he needed all the food he could get, so he was upping the pace today to try to beat them to the punch.
No pun intended.

Her fingers reached to touch her cheek, trying to rub the paint away, but it didn't work so well because she just spread it all over her cheek. "Now I must be all blue." With a look at her slightly paint-stained fingers, she extended her arm to stain Shawn's cheek too. It was more or less dry, but still, it was noticeable. "Art is amazing! I wish all subjects were as easy as Art is." She was oblivious to his worries about the bullies making a move soon. At his practically devouring his sandwich, she guessed he must be really hungry. "Do you want to go to a party?" She suddenly asked.

He froze instinctively when she touched his face, his eyes closed in a slight flinch as if expecting her to slap him or pinch him or something. But the touch was surprisingly soft and her hand was warm- caring, almost, in a gentle sort of way. He almost didn't want her to pull away, but that would be asking too much, and it would just be creepy too. The large hazel eyes opened again when the hand left his cheek, his long, nimble fingers quickly shoving his glasses up his nose again as they had started to slip. It took a few tries but he finally managed to get the words out.
"P-party? Me? You're asking the wrong person, Sunset. I don't do well at parties." He shrugged, forgetting temporarily about the bullies as he crumpled his now empty sandwich bag into a ball and tossed it in his lunch bag. "I'm not a party kind of guy."
Sunset (played anonymously)

Sunset leaned forward on the table, muching on her pizza. "Why not? Some girls were talking about it and it sounded fun. Where I come from, parties are always magnificent. There's good music and everybody dances barefoot -not like here, where these things crush your feet-," She said looking down at her shoes, then she realized she should't have told him all that. "I don't see why you wouldn't be a party kind of a guy." Her expression was inncocent. In this world, she was extremely naive. She had no idea of what parties where really like here.

"Well, I don't know," he started, but wasn't able to finish because right at that moment the glasses were plucked off his eyes and lifted away behind him.
"HEY-" He whipped around but wasn't able to see much of anything without the glasses. The guys from before just laughed, one of them twirling the glasses in his hand as Shawn pawed around in their general direction.
"This is cheating," the skinnier boy snapped in annoyance, his eyes narrowed, as if that'd help.
"I know. That's why it's fun," the other replied, smirking at Shawn's condition.

Sunset frowned when a guy took Shawn's glasses. What was so funny? Shawn needed the glasses to be able to see. What if someone plucked your eyes off? She wanted to ask, but even she knew that'd be just gross. She stood up to face that annoying guy. Seriously, it was starting to get on her nerves. "What is your problem? Why can't you leave him alone?" She grabbed Shawn's sleeve to stop him because she noticed peope around were laughing. At him. "Give him his glasses back."

"What's it to you, Cupcake?" the boy retorted, holding the glasses higher out of Shawn's reach. "I'll do what I want with these glasses- break 'em, if you keep yakkin' about it."
Shawn had a hand on Sunset's shoulder. It was something to keep him grounded so he didn't trip and fall on his face since he couldn't see. The laughter was ringing in his ears, and it stung, but he'd worry about that later. Right now he needed his glasses back.
"Give them back, Sloan," he sighed, focusing on the fuzzy figure that was most likely the bully. The kid just laughed and stopped twirling the glasses, resting his thumb on them in a position to snap them in two.
"What're you gonna do about it, dorkface?"
Shawn had no honest reply to that. He didn't have a plan at the moment, not yet.

She felt how her cheeks flushed in anger, thinking about the hundreds of ways her people could have disposed of this boy. She looked at Shawn but there wasn't much he could do in his current situation. Her gaze shifted to her half-eaten pizza and an idea popped in her head. With a smile, she grabbed the piece and threw it at the face of the guy who had Shawn's glasses. "Food fight!" She yelled like she'd seen it was done in many movies.

The pizza landed smack-dab in the middle of the guy's face with a rather satisfying splatting sound, catching all of them off guard and starting perhaps the biggest food fight in the history of the little high school. It was one of the only food fights too (the last one had been about ten years ago) so everyone was taking full advantage of this one. It was a once in a lifetime experience, after all.
Anyways, while the guy was distracted with the pizza, Shawn lunged in and snagged his glasses after a little aimless flailing. He shoved them back on his face, grabbed Sunset's hand, and ran. He practically flew down the hall, dodging flying sandwiches and pizza slices and finally bursting into the safety of the locker hall, panting and trying not to laugh.
"That... Was awesome," he wheezed, leaning on his knees and watching the fight from a safe distance. "Thanks..." He took a moment to breathe before laughing. "The principal... Is going to kill everyone..."
Sunset (played anonymously)

Sunset followed Shawn smiling all the way. The look on his face! She'd never forget that look and the sound of the pizza connecting with his face. Priceless! When they both were at a safe enough distance from the cafeteria, she started laughing too. "At least... you have your... glasses." She leaned against one of the lockers, then slid to the floor. "I can't believe it worked! I was afraid he'd snapped them in two." She let out another laugh. There was some salad in her hair but she didn't mind. That had been so fun!
