Abigail Sommerset (played by TheLily)

Our tale beings as they often do, in a bustling tavern. The late cold snap had brought in travellers and locals alike, all wishing to be out of the frosty evening and beside the fire. The barmaids were running orders here and there, trying to keep their orders straight. Men and women were drinking heavily, in preparation of the cold walk home, travellers enjoying the knowledge their beds were a short walk away.

In the farthest corner a silver-haired human sat, her hands around a bowl, warming her fingers. Her coat was heavy and she looked well worn, as travellers often do. Beside her was her bag, a faint magic aura around it (to those who could tell - she made no effort to hide it away), a dagger at her hips and a harp tucked between her legs. She watched the tavern for now, looking for familiar faces.

She didn't really expect to see anyone there that she knew - most were gone on their own adventures and would not be coming back here for years. Some had died, and some had vowed their lives to the dedication of their Gods, living in silence in monasteries.

Abigail felt alone in this moment. Sure, she could draw attention to herself and sing a tale or two, like she always did. The feeling of life flowing through her while she played would be enough to get her hopes up for a while. Still, her room in this bustling tavern would be empty, save for her, the second bed unoccupied. There would be no one to argue with over the time to start in the morning. There would be no one's hand to brush while they walked together.

She was alone and she knew it. Even if another adventurer came alone, who was to say that they would stay long enough to give her the companionship she craved. Slowly a plan formed in her head - an adventure for a thing long lost. A legend surely no one here had heard! That would pique the interest of a fellow traveller, maybe more than one!

She carefully she wiped her mouth and jumped up, a new energy in her as she took up her harp, looking to make sure she wasn't intruding on another bard.
Blank (played by Luulu)

He was sitting in the furthest corner of the bar, forehead resting heavily against his tanned palm, wishing only to be left alone. His head was pounding, the room was loud, and the ale in front of him tasted stale. Dart hated it when ale tasted bad, it usually meant trouble with Grey.

His waitress walked by, only getting as close to the table as she would hopefully have to, and he glared her away. The glare followed a snort, even if his eyes did linger on the woman's physique. It wasn't uncommon for Dart to be misjudged by his tattered clothing. The man was rather attached to the stained grey tunic and tattered, aged, pants. Even his boots had a few scrapes here and there that might cause frostbite in the winter. He didn't feel the need to upgrade, why bother as long as he had the bright blue scarf around his neck? "A man only needs one article of clothing he's proud of, the rest doesn't matter" he would constantly tell Grey. When Grey would listen.

Speaking of Grey..Where was the little bastard? Panik started to set in as Dart skanned the room looking desperatly for the orange top-knot of hair. The worst party was, if the little guy didn't want to be found...he wouldn't be. This could be bad, real bad.

And then, just as he was about to flip tables in an attempt to prevent chaos, Dart spotted him. Grey was one of the little people, slightly taller than a dwarf, yet still much shorter than both human or elf. He was also fast, and making a beeline for Abigale's bag. "Crap."

And Dart was off, smashing his way through the crowd, accidentally bumping against the female bard in his haste, to grab Grey by the cuff of his neck, just as the kender's tiny hands were dipping out of the bag.

"Put. It. Back." He snarled. "Whatever it is you just took from that bag, put it back!"

Grey looked up at Dart, his wide blue eyes shinning innocently.
Tamesis (played by Krieg_005)

Tamesis sat at the bar, a few ales in him already with his staff leaned against the counter. He was plunking down a few more coins for another drink, which he figured would be his last for the night, when he heard the commotion behind him.

He frowned and turned on his bar stool to see what was going on and only with the height of his seat was he able to see into the far corner at all. He made out a man chastising a much smaller person... perhaps his son or one of the smaller races?... for taking something from a bag apparently. He slides his coins to the tender, turning back to face them and tells them to just keep the money.

From there Tamesis stood, taking staff in hand, and walks towards the scene of the disturbance slowly to take in the situation better... he is a tad inebriated so he'd like to know what was going on before doing much else.

Abigail gasped as she was bumped into. It didn't do much, only sent her into her seat. She regarded the man who had run into her, then slowly turned her attention to the Kender, "There isn't much of value in there, unless you want my ink vials or paper. I'm a traveller, not a noble. B'sides, I'm a bard - don't keep money because someone will pay for my meal and room as payment for the evening's entertainment."

She could feel eyes on the three of them, but it just strengthened her resolve to keep this quiet and keep the town's guard out of it. The last thing she wanted was confrontation of a legal kind. She had bad luck with the law, since they seemed to think of her as less of a person and more of a kind of prostitute.

Held tightly in the kender's hand was one of Abigail's little ink bottles. He grinned sheepishly up at her, extending both hand and item towards the bard. "Hey miss, this ink bottle almost well out of your purse. Lucky I found it for you! You should be more careful, there are thieves around! Say you're a bard arn't you? Will you sing a song for us? Oh please do, I love music. Dart does too, tho he'd never admit it!" He tilted his head towards Dart curiously.

"By the way, will you put me down please? That hurts."

Dart sighed and plopped his companion onto the floor shortly before sinking down into the nearest chair. "Why do I put up with you?" He grumbled, his focus now on the table's hard wood than anything else. Blimey his head hurt. He noticed the magic user, as much as anyone might have noticed someone taking a sudden interest in the conversation, but Dart wasn't too worried. These things happened all the time when one traveled with Grey.
Tamesis (played by Krieg_005)

Stood there and took things into consideration... though a tad slow with the drink in him. It wasn't until Dart started looking at him that he realized the whole hubbub was over nothing and she probably mind his business.

Blinking a few times he smiles to them, trying to think of an excuse to not look like a trashed mage who just bumbled over here for no reason, and finally spoke up, "Evening, you chaps look like a lively bunch and I was wondering if I might take in a round or two in your company... provided the Kender there minds his hands I'll even buy the first round."

Regarding the Kender for another moment, she leaned over and gave him a quick kiss on the cheek, "Well, thank you." She knew it was blatant lie - things in the back of holding were further down than one would normally expect, seeing as there was so much more space in it.

At the suggestion of a song, she smiled, but let the other man talk. She looked him up and down, "How about, instead of an ale, you get me a meal. Don't much care what it is, so long as it fills me up. I sing better on a full stomach. She looked between the three of them, "M'names Abigail, most people call me Abby, though. What're your names?" Her eyes lingered on Dart, trying to figure out what was wrong with him - was he just annoyed with his companion, or was it something more than that?
Blank (played by Luulu)

Grey smiled brightly up at Abigail when she pecked him on the cheek, turning slightly red. "Don't worry, I'll keep an eye out in case anything else falls from your pouches!"

"No you wont!" Dart snarled, hauling him onto his other side. "You'll sit right there, ON your hands."

Grey pouted, but did what he was told and sat on his hands. This didn't prevent him from being fidgety though, and the Kender moved around, his eyes flashing across the room with amusement. Naturally they landed on Abigail again when she spoke. "Abby huh? That's a nice name. I'm Grey Ganderfoot, and this here is my partner Dart! He doesn't have a last name, and we travel together."

Dart shot him a glare, only causing the kender to grin even more. "He doesn't like when I tell people that. He doesn't actually like people, I do though!" He peered at the wizard. "And your name, what is it? You're buying drinks and food? Potatoes please!"

Feeling eyes on him, Dart glanced up at Abigail, his sharp glare softening a bit. "What? People give me headaches." He stated. He couldn't read her mind of course, and was speaking his more than answering any unasked questions.
Tamesis (played by Krieg_005)

Smiles and shakes his head before turning to the bar, "If you insist... barkeep! A round of drinks for my friends and I, and food for the bard and the Kender." At the loudness of his voice the mage's familiar wakes and scurries into view upon his shoulder: a weasel, not a particularly peculiar beast for its kind, of brown top coat and with a white belly that had hidden itself for a rest within his relatively voluminous robes. Perhaps on a man with a more average build this robe would be tight but on the thin mage it appears on par for those of his profession.

Upon closer inspection Tamesis does appear to lack the usual accoutrement of his kind such a spell component pouch or much of any sort of possession. All he seems to have are a pair of sacks tied to a belt at his middle, his robe, staff, and weasel who now chitters at him and causes the man to roll his eyes. "Fine, fine... food for myself as well my good man!..." He wonders what the meal of the night was anyway, having not partaken before his evening of drinks and wishes he'd listened to his musteline companion's advice sooner.

It suddenly occurs to him that he had not introduced himself and that the others were waiting upon this. "Terribly sorry, my name is Tamesis and I am an Evoker of the Fourth Circle. It is a pleasure to make all of your acquaintances."

Abby kept her attention on Dart for a long moment, even as their drinks were being delivered, as well as bowls of a thick stew. She put her harp down, reaching across to lay her hand across Dart's own hand, "If you hate people so much, why aren't you up stairs, cuddled into your bed? Surely there must be some way to control your friend." She smiles, "or maybe you just need to tie him to a bed to give you some rest."

She ran a hand through her silver hair, regarding him carefully. Of the three of them, Dart interested her the most. She wasn't certain why - perhaps it was because he was the most likely to be honest with her. Tamesis was clearly drunk, a more confident person and Grey was untruthful as any kender - he meant well, and she knew from her various travels, he didn't mean to steal. He was only curious.
Blank (played by Luulu)

Luckily Dart's hand was covered by hers, so he could not have taken the large gulp of drink he had wanted to. Otherwise, the man would be choking the fluids back up and spitting all over the table. "Tie Grey up? and keep him there?" The shock man nearly howled with laughter. It was odd sounding his laugh, though not out of practice, it was the kind of shaky laughter that only showed up when someone is shocked into it. "It would last all of five minutes." His chuckles were softening now, and he nervously freed the hand she had trapped for his drink, though he only sipped. Not stale, that was good. Ignoring Abigail's first question, Dart looked towards Tamesis. "They like you here my friend."

Grey, on the other hand, had attacked his food with warmth and excitement. Abigail and Dart seemed to be distracted enough, so he turned his attention on to Tamesis. "What an Evoker?" The Kender questioned, his eye bright and curious. "Is it a kind of magic user? Are you a sage? I was a sage once, for a short period of time. It was fun, want to hear the story? No no no, I insist, first you tell me what an Evoker is, then I'll tell you my story sound like a dealio?!" He asked in between mouthfuls. Somehow Grey was managing to eat, and talk enough for two people at once, but a rather large bit of food calmed him for a few minutes as it was chew or choke, and the Kender chose to chew.
Tamesis (played by Krieg_005)

Shrugs, "They like me since I can pay." He takes a seat at the table, resting his staff to one side while his weasel steals a bit of meat out of its master's stew to chew upon and is mightily happy for the chance to eat a hot meal.

Tamesis regards Grey's question for a moment or two before answering, having needed to gather his thoughts some with the ale clouding his judgement, "An Evoker is a wizard who specializes in evocation spells... the summoning of energies to form tools or destructive spells. Some people confuse us with conjurers though... since they summon things to themselves with energy. Common folk make the mistake all the time." The wizard takes a long draw from his mug, sloshing the contents some onto the table as it escapes his mouth and barely misses his weasel who gets out of the mostly on instinct: it knows its master well.

Turning her attention away from Dart, Abby looked at Tamesis, "I think you may have had enough, friend." She reaches over to grab his ale from him, careful not to move too fast or threateningly, "You need a meal more than anyone else at this table. Perhaps you should tone it down." She spoke calmly, as she seemed to in any situation.

She smiled, "Tell me your friend's name." She kept an eye on Grey, making sure he was keeping clear of her bag.
Blank (played by Luulu)

"Dart, it's Dart!" Grey repeated, whether Abigail's question had been directed to him or not. He was use to repeating himself, and often did so to the point of redundancy. Now his attention became diverted by the weasel, his eye widening with amazing. "Oh Wow! I haven't seen one of those before, what is it?!" Tamesis' explanation as to what an evoker was appeared to be dashed from the Kender's brains with the newest distraction.

Dart, on the other hand, had been paying close attention. "So, it sounds like you could be rather dangerous." He eyed the ale darkly, how much had this man had to drink? The headache was fading with Dart's on-growing interest.
Tamesis (played by Krieg_005)

Tamesis frowns at the bard's words and keeps the mug out of her reach, "I will be the judge of how much I can have... and I would like to finish this one... I'll get to eating the food when I feel like it." Blinking a few times he looks to Grey with a look of befuddlement, "What do you mean 'what is it?'... tis a weasel. Particularly common animal and this one is like the rest besides being my familiar." With a few moments of pause the mage speaks as to Dart's point of interest, "Certainly can be if I want to be..."

After a few more sips he puts down the mug to begin eating his stew and doesn't stop until he's finished and sops up the broth with a hunk of bread that came with the meal. The weasel continues to nom on the hunk of meat it had nabbed and is happy enough to continue doing for the time being curled up around its prize.

Abby frowned and sipped at her own ale. While she had a good constitution, she didn't drink often. She finished the mug, feeling the warmth spread from her belly to her limbs and relaxed while she nibbled her stew. She wasn't really hungry, but knew it might be a while before he next meal and was determined to get this finished.

She looked at all of them, "So, you're all adventurers?"
Blank (played by Luulu)

Dart chuckled a bit, and before Grey had the chance to open his eager little mouth, he tugged the Kender's topknott of hair backwards. The little man squeaked and fell feet over head backwards, landing with a soft *thump* on the floor.

"Yeah, Adventurers. Let's go with that." He smirked a bit, taking a greater interest in the mug now that he knew it hadn't been tampered with. It was amazing the difference in the taste of a beer when the waitress knew you could pay. Dart took another long swig of the beverage almost happily while Grey shot him an angry look from the floor. "There was no need for that you know" He squeaked, "I wasn't going to tell this time!"

Dart ignored him.
Tamesis (played by Krieg_005)

Tamesis nods in answer to the bard's query, smiling just a tad, "Well I certainly have scoured through a few old ruins and caves before... never alone mind you but the concept of dungeoneering is not something I am unfamiliar with."

When Grey is pulled from his seat he raises a brow, higher still when Dart gives his rather ambigious answer, and wonders just what the little one means by 'telling this time' about their occupation... was it possible he was sharing a table with men of ill repute? Well he'd known a thief or two and even a few fighters who had gotten gotten on the wrong side of the law and honestly as long as they kept him out of it he was fine with their shenanigans.
Taihi Kasisqua (played by CactusBat)

The surface world was truly a strange place. Though, Taihi couldn't help but notice that somethings never failed to be constants. Drink, Bards, and Games seemed to rule no matter where one traveled. Though, the light-hearted tone of this establishment was thoroughly foreign to this individual. But there was one word that rang in his ears from the moment it was uttered from the nearby table.

That word was "Dungeoneer". It was hard to ignore, when another man uttered the name of your chosen career path. It was like a siren song, and an invitation to perhaps see if this band could use aid of one such as him.

Taihi rose from his place, pushing in his wood chair with a slight scrapping, gathering his wood bowl of stew into his long fingered hand as he approached the table. Taihi stood tall, as he glanced one by one to the woman and her harp, the energetic small-folk and his larger companion, the man with the many pouches whom he favored with a small grin.

Looking at himself, Taihi worn a over-large tailed coat of some form of soft, supple exotic monster leather with many stuffed pockets, so he thought that Tamesis might be a kindred soul of some regard. Though he hoped his paleness wouldn't put the small band off guard.

He softly cleared his throat to gain the attention of those at the table, in case his standing there hadn't brought attention to himself already. Then he raised his free hand in a small apologetic gesture for interrupting. Taihi spoke in a pert, civil tone. "Good eve, fellows. Please, forgive my rudeness. But I might have heard you mention the topic of Dungeoneering, and I wonder if you might be planning such a task that require my offering of...unique talents, if I am not being too bold."

Abby grinned, hiccoughing, "No trouble at all. Sit if you'd like, but I have a few drinks to earn myself." It looked like the bard was already getting herself beyond her limit - though it would not be a surprise if she had more alcohol in her than blood at the moment. She was quite thin.

She grabbed a chair and carefully set it in the middle of the table. She did make sure not to rest it in anyone's food as she kicked off her boots and slipped her coat off, dropping it to the floor - but taking care that it covered her bag, "Keep an eye on that, love." She said to Tamesis. She smoothed the strange costume, climbing onto the table, holding her harp carefully in one hand.

As one of the barmaids came to protest, she began to pluck strings carefully, letting them vibrate against the din of the tavern, waiting for interest to be paid to her. She hummed along with each note plucked, letting her voice whisper beside it.

When the tavern had grown quiet and most eyes were on her, she began to play a bright happy tune, the notes turning as her tale took on a mournful pace, giving the adventurers a glimpse of the quest she was begging to join in on.

"Love of unknowing wealth
Given freely between a pair
A passion between elf and elf
The tale of Alenea and Eldarniel

Trained as often they are,
From youth they were taught,
Two mages could go far,
Together adventures had between the pair.

Love did blossom forth,
All adventures had together,
The greatest was of the North,
In the sky where the stars and moon did settle.

In the dark they did stay,
Until they parted paths,
Her heart in sway,
His in books and study.

Though they lived apart,
Something in them kept them close
A love in their heart,
A ring on her finger.

When she did return,
A lavish marriage between the two
A fierce love that would always burn
Soon her was taken from her.

She loved him always,
Never another’s lips she kissed,
A love like his always stays,
She was his ever more.

An adventurer she had been,
An adventurer she would always be,
Even as tears rolled off her chin,
She lived as she had always done.

Her only reminder of love
A ring given freely,
Burning as the stars above
The Bright Evening Star."

She waited as the last notes of her tragic tale hung in the air. Two things usually followed a performance like this - quiet, where one digested the sad tale or clapping. Once or twice anger had come from this, but this was a civilized place.
