It's been about a week. Life didn't change much. I can vote, now, play PG-18 video games and marry without my parents agreement. It's funny, because I'll sure do quite quick, my girlfriend asked me to marry her when she'll turn 18 too.
I don't have much else to say. I was already happy before, my parents always allowed me freedom, I was already critical about political issues.
This post is quite short and useless...but yeah, here it is.
Happy belated eighteenth!

I find that the changes don't come on all at once. As you learn to exercise these new freedoms, it's more that you learn the consequences (both good and bad!) that can come of those actions as they accumulate over time. For example, my SO and I got together at about your age, and we've been together ever since, but we've been finding that having done so has caused some issues of not fully developing our sense of 'selves' which we've both been working hard to identify and enact in our own ways. Voting... it doesn't feel like it affords much, but it does. If you get the chance, I'd recommend it every single time. If nothing else, practicing some research as to who you're voting in to the helm at whatever level of government is important so that you understand the bigger issues that connect daily life to news headlines and beyond. PG-18 everything--take it all in, if that's your thing! Now's a time to find out what you enjoy and what you don't!

Now's also a good time to start thinking about your personal boundaries and values. You don't have to commit to those permanently (and I'd say that as you get older, it's important that you explore them now and again to make sure you're not getting bogged down in unrealistic expectations!) but it's good to practice when to stick to your guns and assert yourself, vs. when you listen to (or even believe) others and fold their advice or thoughts or criticisms into your actions.

You're in an interesting part of life... a tricky one, but one that can be a lot of fun. Don't consider 18 a cap that you stand on top of between 'minor' and 'adult'. It's more like the trail-head of a brand new hiking trail, with a crackin' amount of mountains to summit if you want to go there, or a lovely, life-long scenic walk if that's more your bag.

Welcome! :D

Congratulations.
I hope you're prepared for the buzzkill now. Being 18 is no different from being 17. In fact, life gets slightly worse, just telling you that right now. You're now free from the harnesses of youth.
Take that as you will.
Now go do something amazing.
Happy belated birthday Ducky! You can now go to jail, drink alcohol and get sued! The possibilities are endless!! :D
A very late happy birthday to you, LeDuc! :)
