So at my school, we have a Young Carers group for support and care. So, I'd like to know, being a Young Carer myself, is anyone on here also a Young carer?

A young carer is a child (who can do most things by themselves to 18 years old) who looks after a parent or the person who is supposed to be looking after them.

Examples:

-I am a Young carer as my mom is in a wheelchair (unable to walk more then 20m) so I have to take her to shops and being her food to her, drinks, etc.
-A child may care for a guardian who has cancer/deadly illness
-May look after someone with a mental illness that restricts their ability to think straight and their safety.

A lot of young carers often feel isolated and alone as it can restrict their ability to be a child, hang out with friends, may cause stress, etc. While it isn't always the case, it can be. So I'd like to offer support to those of us who are :)

I myself am a carer for my grandma sheila who has diabetes, asthma and has bad infected legs.
I was a young carer during primary school and the first years of secondary school. My mom had Type 1 Diabetes and it took its toll. I could go into detail about her illnesses, but I don't wanna bring down the mood. But I was the parent and nurse, and she was the child.

After she died, I went to live with my grandparents to finish secondary school. But once I finished secondary school, my great-grandmother came to live with us, so I was her caretaker during college. Now I just take care of her while my grandparents are out of town, like they are this week. So I'm still a young carer... just an older one.
