So, I have a lot of ideas. So many that it feels like it would be kind of excessive to post them all separately. But when I group them together based on the character and post them all at once, I don't seem to get as many responses. In your opinion, is it better to post a lot with one starter on each, or to just post once for each character with all of the starters in a list?
Like you said... just opinion and preference :), but when I'm browsing the Looking for RP threads, I'm more drawn to the ones with a singular idea. Maybe because it's right to the point and I can say 'yes that interests me' or 'nope, moving on'. Or maybe because, if there's just one idea, then I can safely assume the poster really is interested in doing it and not just spitballing to see what sticks.

Either way, I usually take the time to read the idea when there's just one. When there's multiple in a single post, I tend to skim them... and think 'well, maybe...', sometimes with the intention of coming back to them later, though I rarely do.

Good thread... I'm interested to hear others' perspectives too.

Thanks for your input, that makes a lot of sense. I'll definitely take that into account the next time I post something :)
I think juls is probably right, the singular idea seems to be more attractive...I can usually tell in a few minutes if it's an idea if I'm interested in or not. In addition as I run down the list of a multiple ad post, if i see several in a row I tend to just think the posters interests do not align with my own.

However!

There is good use for posting a multi ad (I think anyway) I have a friend who updates one regularly with his characters, a brief description of them, and possibly rp prompts or tags for rp prompts already posted. He then placed this thread on his profile. In this way, people who have no idea what they want and are looking at players rather than posts get a chance to see in detail what this person is all about, and it just might set a hook for him I havent actually asked. Anyway I think that's a marvelous idea and I've been meaning to get around to doing the same.

That sounds like a good idea, thank you for suggesting it :) I'll do that when I have the time.
I think I tend to favor posts that focus on a single idea, or that have up to maybe 3 concept briefs for a single character.

On the other hand, if I see one player has posted a bunch of separate prompts over a short period (or even just publicly replied to a bunch in a short period), I still tend to refrain. I get a snap judgement of "this person has no chill and might ask too much of me or overextend themself."

You make a good point. From what people have said so far, it sounds like you kind of need to find a balance between the two, which can be difficult.
I agree with majority of the posts. More than one prompt/idea is fine, but a bazillion vague ones can be a turn-off too.

However, I've seen searches where I'm looking at miles of backstory. Though I'm certain it can easily be well-thought out and dope as fuq, there is a part of me that dreads formulating/investing a character into something so extensive. What if we don't mesh well?

It makes me dread the work involved—especially since time is a highly limited commodity in my life.

I see your point. I try not to make them too vague or too long and detailed, but it can be difficult to find the middle point because so many people have so many different preferences.
But also too, you cannot please everyone so this discussion will likely go in circles.

In the end, shouldn't you simply do how you feel most comfortable and reasonable?

That does seem like the best option. In the end, if I change how I do things to make others happy, I won't be any more.
