under intense reworking (played anonymously)

I completely edited this post for the sake of putting all the attention on this roleplay despite having it also on my Masterlist. I just Really Really want to do this and while people seem to have?? Liked the idea?? Nobody's genuinely wanted to roleplay it. I don't know if its just too long, which would be really disappointing for the several roleplay-centered groups I posted in, or if it's just too out there??? There's a lot of things it could be I'm sure, but I'm painfully optimistic and desperate to write this uh //wheeze

Anyways! Hi, I'm Pen (they/them!) This is multiparagraph and there's some more ground rules that further explain what's needed here. I'm not well educated in history by any means so the alternate history take will sound like Bull. I'm 17 and the youngest I intend on roleplaying with is 15.
*I don't typically write this long!! I typically only manage 2-4 paragraphs a
writing example
A black, stubby limo with darkly tinted windows rumbled down the street. It was one of those expensive types, the kind could float a solid two feet off the ground. It made a low, wovering sound as it went. It had no plates, but the police on their hover bikes didn’t mind because this car didn’t need plates for them to know its driver. They simply buzzed on their way, flying over and passing the black car by. It was none of their business what the Mafia did.
The car was piloted by a Little Lars by Crowther Tech. It was a small, round droid clamped around the steering wheel. A camera extended from the top of it and carefully scanned the road as it drove. Occasionally, when it passes certain buildings it would pipe up with quaint historical facts about New York City and its tremendous past, affectionately referring to the city as The Big Apple. The two passengers sat in the back, mostly silent. The radio played the hot new craze - Miss Paisley and her Rockabilly band. Her sunny little folk-inspired rock had taken America by storm. Occasionally, Little Lars would chirp out a little fact about her, too.
The back was an open space with seats on the side and along the back. The overhead light was on, yet dim and only partly brightening the car. On the right side, Finn Sawyer sat rocking his head to beat, twitching his fingers as he tried to pin down the order of the cords. The mouse-haired young lad had a knack for guitar. Said he could play any song after hearing it once, which was only a small lie. Finn still had plenty of talent to be confident about for a deeply unassuming looking boy in his loosely-fitting, hand-me-down, tan blazer and worn leather belt.
Slyvi sat back on the left, her legs crossed, her top leg bouncing as she sat. She would occasionally fidget with her hijab, as when she passed the pier to get to the limo, a seagull had tried snatching it off her head. She had spent the car ride trying to fix it, and now she was self-conscious about it. She felt frustrated and uneasy, which worked for her, she guessed. They were either going to leave this place with money, or having broken a pair of pretty, pretty kneecaps. Might as well light her fuse before they got there, it’d make the grisly easy. She sighed quietly and looked to Finn, watching his fingers twitch on his leg as he tried to memorize the song. Slyvi sighed again and looked out the window. “Little Lars?” she asked politely. Her father always warned her to be polite to these droid things, as they were getting smart, they’d likely start remembering who wronged them. Slyvi honestly just didn’t know how to be rude to them.
Little Lars beeped, and a blue light on the back of its camera flashed as it recognized its name. “Yes, Ms. Slyvi?” A chipper voice chirped from a speaker in its center. It sounded like your typical, posh chauffeur man, but at this point the Little Lars model had fairly effectively defined the stereotype of that particular voice.
“How much further?” Slyvi asked, picking off a fleck of nothing particular off her blouse.
“Currently, we are on Vermilion Boulevard! We are coming up on the apartments shortly, please allow for another five minutes!” Little Lars buzzed absolutely positively.
Finn took that at his cue to pull his 2-16 Bailer DEFENDER from under his seat. It was a shiny, steel, new age ray-pistol. It had the iconic brass coating around the lips of the muzzle that all Bailer’s had. New age just meant it looked more like a bullet pistol instead of the silly looking early Atomica ray-guns, except it had a much longer, much narrower muzzle. A pretty ironic weapon for this job, as they weren’t about to do any type of defending today.
Slyvi already had her gun on her belt, except hers was a model 2-18, which didn’t mean much other than it required less energy to spit out a ray.
“Weapon-In-Hand-Detected! Weapon-In-Hand-Detect-!” Little Lars buzzed mechanically as the car began to slow.
“Little Lars - Override Safety Protocol Top Dog,” Slyvi sighed. She figured the last time Fishke - affectionately the Top Dog in this case - was in the car, they had turned on the protocol. They must’ve been talking big business if they needed it on. Top Dog meant nothing, that was just the title the protocol was under. Basically, all Slyvi understood it as a measure to make sure nobody tried to pull a gun on the Godfather.
“Override successful! Would you like to deactivate Safety Protocol Top Dog completely, Ms. Slyvi?” Little Lars asked merrily as the car sped up again.
Slyvi shrugged to herself. They didn’t need it off unless Finn planned to get silly with his pistol over there and ground them in the middle of Vermillion Boulevard. “Not right now, Little Lars,” She said.
“Understood, Ms. Slyvi! Safety Protocol Top Dog remains on,” Little Lars said.
Finn quickly holstered is gun, not wanting to annoy the chauffeur.
Soon, the black stubby limo pulled in front of a tall, tower of apartments. It lowered to the ground, its tired unfolding from under it as it nestled into the road. Slyvi looked out and stood up, bending a bit as she was just a bit too tall for the inside of the limo. “Remember, Finn, keep the blood to a minimum. We’re debt collectors, not grim reapers,” She instructed him as she opened the door. She stood with her hands on her hips beside the limo, her hands on her hips and her pretty white blouse puffing up a little in the wind. She always made a point to wear white on bloody jobs. Cheap ones, nothing fancy and expensive. Slyvi thought it made her look more intimidating, not looking scared of any blood on her shirt.
Finn nodded silently, slipping out after her. He scanned the windows for any onlookers and possible threats. Last time he went on a job it was with Erica and Oscar, and this big bull of a man tried to crack Erica’s skull against the curb like a fat, blonde egg. He hoped the East River welcomed him well.

Ground rules!

-I require a lot of patience! I respond a lot faster OOC than I do IC, but poking at me gets tedious! (//and kind of makes me feel pretty guilty wheeze) If we’re talking, than I likely know I need to respond, or am going to figure it out soon enough!
* That said, if I take longer than a month to respond, I’ve probably honestly forgot that time. Feel free to poke me then!

- I’m beby, so I don’t, and can’t, roleplay smut. All scenes of such nature are fade-to-black only I’m also just kind of awkward with romance, which isn’t a rule against as it is just a warning.

- I don’t even associate with people who are willfully lgbt+-phobic, racist, ablest, pedophilic, or sexist, let alone roleplay with them. Miss me with those r-slurs, miss me with that ‘well, being gay is-’ such and such. I run on a two strike system - if I think it was just uninformed, I’ll say something, if I think you’re just being like that, I leave.
* That being said - I do very well know the difference between people and their characters.

- Don’t refer to what I do in second person, especially if I’m multi musing. It just makes me uncomfy <:^ )

- Please type a minimum of 2 paragraphs with an attempted grasp on english grammar. I get how a lot of things can make writing harder, but poor IC grammar makes things really hard to read. I screw up a lot of things, writing a lot of run-on sentences, generally missing punctuation, typos and typos and typos, but I promise I’ll try and keep it legible and if something fuzzes up I’m willing to clarify!!

- I prefer to actively plot! Especially in group roleplays! Not everything needs to be scripted, but I like having plans.
* This means I’m absolutely free to just casually talk to and send memes ooc, and likely will unless you end up specifically tell me not to--

*Human characters only, sorry!!
America, America, America!

World Building
Instead of joining WWII, America kept firm in its choice avoiding it. When FDR lost the 1940 election, a charismatic man named Daniel Francis Quake took office as an Independent. He promised an independent America, untouched by war, and blessed by God with bounty. As WWII raged on, President Quake began to shut down all borders and eased up on international trade. The American government promoted the use of solely American products, often through the use of propaganda and tariffs. When Pearl Harbor occurred in 1941, President Quake ordered the evacuation of Hawaii and began to shift more money into military spending. He did not join the war, and instead used it as a reason for why America needed to close itself off and become wholly dependent on itself.

Work on the Manhattan project continued, with increased funding leading to more extensive research on atomic power. At first, this was solely for Military use, and by Quake's landslide reelection in 1944, America had completely sectioned itself off and the first Atomic ray-gun was invented. It was a massive, incredibly unstable gun later known for painfully irradiating the soldiers that were tasked with baring it during studies, but it paved the way for the Atomic Revolution. Atomic Ray-guns, powered by a battery-like piece held in the barrel called an 'atomic charge' became smaller, safer, and more practical in self-defense situations. But, the revolution didn't stop at guns. Homes themselves become atomized with the development of safer use of atomic batteries for public use in appliances and cars. Technology advanced rapidly. Cars started to lift off the ground, devices like phones became hand held, and the first robot available to consumers - a simple vacuum with smart censors called the 'Dust Buddy' - all by the late 1950s. When atomic power became combined with solar power in the 1960s, these powerful atomic batteries were destined to last for centuries. Technology advanced rapidly.

In 1948 as WWII finally ended, Quake did not run for his third reelection. This paved the way for Ed Steward to take the presidency. He took Quake's idea of the impermeable borders of hermit America and ran with it. President Steward convinced the America public that in order to continue its success, the American people needed to come together in the most literal sense: Enclosed cities, all connected to each other and smaller towns by long, guarded roads. President Steward pushed for all Americans not working in rural agricultural to flock into the cities, and possessed by his charm, they did. New York City was the first to build up walls, becoming America's first (partly) enclosed city, followed by Chicago, Sacramento and Philadelphia. However, this began to cut off rural farmers from needed supplies and caused the need and cost of food transportation to skyrocket. To fix this, President Steward pushed for the creation of satellite cities. These satellite cities were unenclosed towns or small cities centered around enclosed Cities. President Steward also sharply cut the original plan of 1000 enclosed cities to a meager 75 dotted across America. Despite the grueling process that was the enactment of this plan, Ed Steward won reelection two more times due to his wit, charisma, and overall strong leadership, serving as president for a total of 12 years and making massive headway on his plan for this new America, effectively forcing all following presidents to continue this plan or risk further turmoil.

In 1961, it was decided that keeping prisoners within the cities would be a waste of funds and space in enclosed cities, as well as a risk to public safety. This began the movement to create prisons into the now largely uninhabited and untamed Out Lands that was the rest of America. This movement dissolved rapidly into simply forcing prisoners into the Out Lands with nothing more than a suitcase of their belongings. By 1964, it did not matter what someone was convicted of, as long as it was a felony, they were deemed nonreformable and forced out into the Out Lands, which quickly garnered a reputation for being the 'Bad Lands.'

In 1980, it was agreed that the American capital would move from Washington D.C to Rosraine, a small Enclosed city designed to keep all american officals and their families safe. This has steadily created a divide between American officals and their citizens that goes largely ignored by the media. This helped accentuate the growing divide between the American classes. Government control by the 1980s had grew tremendously and being cleanly segregated from the rest of America, the American government became bold. American society was still locked in beliefs near identical to the 1940s despite being extremely advanced in technology and segregation officially ending to keep enclosed cities functional. Ulterior motives and backhanded policies only made the dangers of being a minority in 1980s America more extreme. Borders had loosened in America in the mid 1970s to finally bring America back into the trading economy, and also allowing for more immigrants enticed by the amazing technology to be blind sided by the steep divide between white and non-white or non-native Americans. By 1989, a man who happened to be a person of color in the wrong space or openly queer could be charged with the same level of felony as a man who slaughtered his family and sentence to the Bad Lands.

Now, it is 2022. America sits with its beautiful cities with airship-dotted skylines full of wonderful, shining skyscrapers that lead down to heavily guarded, high-walled cities marred with social injustice. A long divide crosses between white and non-white Americans, the impoverished and wealthy, the politicians and the people they serve. The media refuses to cover this, instead focusing on a delusion of grandeur that deeply romanticizes the American view, distorting public reception of the events happening around them.

Star Musicians like Beverly "Bambalina" Jones and Don Wattsford focusing on retro and vintage styles of music infused with more modern day aspects, and RetroReality shows like The Gatsby Reality have became massive hits in America and have only risen in popularity since the 1990s. This has put America in a renaissance of retro fashion, art, and music, especially that of the, but not only of, 1920s. Electric swing musicians such as the now outcast Camilla "Lackadaisical" Young sit in radio spotlight with heavily modernized Jazz artists such as Wattsford. The Flapper-style has gained popularity that is much more massive than it had even been in its heyday. With America successfully regaining its foot in the international economy due to being miles ahead of the rest of the developed world, it is truly, once again, the Roaring Twenties.

Basic plotline ideas
No need to follow these religiously, this is just sort of the roleplay quick start and only really covers the first few scenes or so

1 (most preferred) - Your character(s) is/are from Nueva Morelia. They have fun/struggle in the city, but are found responsible for some felony. They are kicked out for whatever ((preferably morally small or justifiable, I don’t have a character here that’d jive too well with spouse abusers lol)). They stumble across the Cai gang before they find Cornset and join up for whichever reason, reasonably it’d be fear because its a bunch of folks pointing guns at them, but could be something else.

2 - the above, but they find Cornset first instead.

Both of these plots leave some time to play around in the Atomic Decopunk setting, while still getting to where I want to get. Below is sort of if you don’t mind skipping most of that and want to get to the dusty part of this dusty sci-fi.

3 - Your character(s) is/are a long time wander of the BadLands. They get tied up with Cornset, or the invading Cai Gang.

4 - Your characters are some/one of the former residents of the felon town of Roosevelt, until the Cai Gang came and seized control and they were chased out. Many of the survivors have grouped up in Cornset, one of which is the mayor. The mayor talks big, convincing talk of reclaiming Roosevelt - by force. You join him on his plan. You wait for when it’s time to leave, biding your time in Cornet(alternatively: y’all are one your way over now)

5 - You’re free to make your own! Just know that some things might not fully work with the setting and could need to be tweaks. Also i’m dead set on including my boy Myron and his co. in this.
Magic 00%
No magic at all.
Technology 60%
Near future, perhaps cloning and genetic manipulation
Combat 40%
Unrest may be part of the setting, but any scenes that happen to involve combat may be summarized.

Quick personal update fitted as a bit of a bump: I'm gonna be really busy for the next week!! I'll likely respond to ooc things but i might not be able to start this right off the bat!!
y'all might be seeing double of this in a sec bc I plan on separating this into two posts with further development on Atompunk.Jpeg, and some more plotline ideas for Decopunk, but in the mean time this is the only one
i com pl e tely edited this post so i could put full focus onto onto this whole roaring 2020s/decocattlepunk thing
If you want my masterthread its uh right here: https://www.rprepository.com/community/forumthread.php?t=73965
im really just bumping this at this point I can't figure out what else I can add that is useful information bc I've even changed the profile connected to this post
I guess I could go over how combat mi ght work? ? ? ? ? It could be dice rolls basically with roll to hit and roll to hurt, or just active talking to decide what happens?? either is fine
I might take this to general but first i have to figure out how to diy a starter based on nothing at all
Looks like a solid idea...if I wasn't already busy with several, either in the beginning or the planning stages, I might join. but I might be able to ask questions that people might find useful. Would there be any form of cybernetics at all or would the technological focus be pretty much on the different path nuclear power and the walled off cities took, and how that shaped things for the people left outside those cities?
I'm going off on a limb here on what you mean by cybernetics based on how i've heard it before and my poor understanding on the google definition

I imagine there are cybernetics such as arms, eyes and such. Prosthetic eyes might be more robotic and obviously a sensor than prosthetic arms which can, at least, get a skin-like slip such as you can in real life. Both of these are probably atomically powered with little atomic batteries and all, ignoring the fact that this would absolutely irradiate one to awful because its that type of science fiction //wheeze
Prosthetics are probably a lot more advanced than they are IRL because robots have probably been advanced upon a dear ton since that discount Roomba came out, and that's likely what they're based on mechanically. And, knowing I already have sentinel dogs who have AI but not any that's notably intelligent, mostly just capable of basic problem solving like 'What do I do if I'm pushed over?' or 'How can I open this door?', there probably is some more advanced artificial intelligence, even extremely advanced almost sentient AI is likely, but not at all on a Becoming Human scale or something. The goal for robotics and AI here is to convenience the American People as opposed to 'lets see if we can make Cooler American people, like Androids!'
I hope that?? Answers some questions? I know none of this is particularly coherent and I'm sorry y'all
That was more thorough than I expected, and definitely informative! It was very much coherent enough for me. :)

Basically replacement body parts was what I was asking about yeah, not the more advanced stuff like brain implants, which I expect would still probably not be too heavily researched given this path. Just limbs, organs, etc. to replace things that are lost, typically, or enhance those existing body parts' functions.
I've had the sentinel dogs a lot longer than i've had the rest of the universe tbqh, like this whole world building thing I have up was pretty much made an hour the day it was posted, which probably explains something for someone
I think internal organ Medical science here would be a bit more advanced than modern day, but it's, again, not on a typical cyberpunk level
Ah, I see. Well, it's still pretty interesting even if it is a brand-new world made up only days ago, lol. I don't think I've ever really seen a setting like that, other than the world as it was pre-war in the Fallout universe.
It was done with Fallout in mind!! Especially with how i misunderstood the 50s aesthetic sort of being a flash back for America rather than it actually being the 50s, but that's less obvious since it was p much just a misunderstanding of the universe
Hahah, fair enough. Well, you have answered the questions I had for the most part. But f I think of any more I'll definitely ask.
Hey - is anyone particularly interested in this? : 0
Hitting this as closed solely because I want to edit this post eventually. If you see this and want to roleplay - send me a message! I’m just trying to gently update to match the profile better.
