Answers to your questions, Part 2: Q's about Kim

Posted by Kim on October 1, 2013, 9:10am

Continuing with my series of answers to your questions, check out part 2: Questions I got that were about me!

If you could choose between having wings, horns, or a tail (not any combination of them) which would you pick? MusicalDemon

WINGS, but only if they actually work. Given my weight and how absurdly huge the wings would have to be to lift me, that seems unlikely.

Never mind, I want wings even if they are decorative.

If (insert your animal of choice here) became sentient and the new master race, what role would you be in their society? Personally I'm going with Veloceraptors, and I would be their librarian. Zenith

I'm... I'm confused. This question seems to imply that velociraptors aren't sentient and dinosaurs aren't already the master race. What... What could such a world look like?

Do you ever RP anymore these days? o.O Sanne

All the time! But less than I used to online. I play in a weekly tabletop game (we used to play Firefly, then Star Trek, then some kind of Zombie thing, then Star Trek again but a different campaign, then Firefly again, then D&D, and now we're gearing up for Star gate) and a weekly Vampire the Masquerade Live Action RP. I am also, with painstaking slowness, preparing a tabletop campaign to be set in the Land of Oz. I have never GMed outside of freeform before and I am very nervous!

As I've gotten busier and busier in life, I've found it very difficult to just “jump in” to online RP ”“ when I'm ready, I'm ready! And the time I spend locating a group, setting a scene, and writing the first post often turns out to be the entirety of the waking “hours” I had left to me after work and dance. So whenever possible, I try to do my RP by appointment. ;)

How do you keep your sanity whilst maintaining RPR? Earendill

Err...?

I find that exercise, especially dance, can be very helpful. Long hot baths are nice. Very very very rare days of not using the computer at all can also help to defrag my poor overworked brain.

But does any of that actually keep me sane?

Where in the world did you come up with the name Aethaerraent?? CelestinaGrey

For those of you that don't know, Aethaerraent is my online D&D illithid character.

To be totally honest, I started with a fantasy name generator and hit refresh about a million times until I saw something that seemed right. I was trying to find a name that looked long, magical, and non-English.

I think the random generator gave me something like “Aetherent” and I decided to stuff it full of extra vowels to make it seem more alien.

*points at the copyright info at the bottom of every page on the site* I've seen it before, but for those who don't know, what is PIXELovely and how did it get its start? Copper_Dragon

That is a long and meandering story! During highschool and college I made a lot of my pocket money as a pixel artist, making portraits and items for gamers. Furcadian users were my main customers, although there were others. You might know that I created the “lovebird” (aka the Peacock) avatar for Furcadia!

Because I played so many games under so many different names, I wanted a single “studio name” under which I could sell my art.

I wanted to use Pixelicious, but the domain name was taken. A friend of mine (wave to the camera, Trickster!) suggested that I use Pixelovely instead, a fun amalgamation of the word Pixel and Lovely, which pretty perfectly described what I was doing.

Although I no longer offer art commissions, my old pixel portrait site is still up here as a sort of museum: www.furcadia.pixelovely.com

After college, I eventually started freelancing as a web developer and designer. Since I was still making pixels look lovely (and function in lovely ways! And make lovely sales!) I decided to keep the name and reuse it for this second business. At that point I changed the name from Pixelovely to PIXELovely, to try and combat the unfortunate prevalence of people reading it (and then spelling it) as “Pixielovely” and asking me questions about why I wanted to name a technology business after girly mythical creatures.

Since PIXELovely is still the professional moniker that I use for art, design and programming, that's reflected in the copyright.

Wow! I've seen the site that is PIXELovely before (at least, I'm pretty sure I have!) but I had no idea it had such a long and rich history! <3 Thanks for answering my question, Kim--even I got to learn something today, even though I only asked it for the benefit of others!

Congradulations kim! You've answered my question! Our dinosaur overlords are pleased with your answer and reassure you that such a world without their guiding claws does not exist. Thus you are to take comfort in their control of every single aspect of your life and trust that they know better then you do on how life for us lesser beings should be run.

XD thanks for answering my question! I figured you'd have some fun with it.
