RPR comes to mobile

Posted by Kim on December 10, 2014, 10:05am

mobile.pngToday, the RPR takes its first baby steps toward providing better support for mobile phones and tablet devices, with a version of the main site that scales automatically to fit smaller screens!

This should make RPing via mobile a vastly easier experience, as there will no longer be a need to pinch, stretch and pan to navigate and read.

Actually, this update wasn't scheduled to go out for another few months! However, I felt the need to rush this update to you for one simple reason: the kudos you guys have been writing for the Festival of Being Excellent To Each Other have been heart-meltingly amazing. I know that for those of you on mobile, giving kudos was an arduous and frustrating experience. Hopefully, my mobile-bound friends will have an easier time participating in the festivities after today!

There's still a long road ahead of us to make the mobile version as pleasant to use as the desktop version in its own special way. A touch-screen experience is a completely different one, and the site wasn't originally designed with it in mind! There's much refining, tweaking and elbow-grease ahead of me -- not to mention all the hundreds of character templates that are going to need the same treatment over 2015. But I know you'll help me make it the best it can be by reporting your experiences and letting me know what would make life easier for you!

Love you guys. <3

What is this wizardry? RPR on the mobile? You mean... you mean I can use this awesome site on the go better now?!

...

I will never admit to any unmanly squeeing at this idea <.< >.> it never happened.
Maybe now I can find more time to RP in-between so much university work... which reminds me of a big group RP that's been waiting on my reply for a week... errr...

I personally liked the site as it was on my browser (I have Google Chrome on my phone.) I've tried 'Requesting Desktop site' and it doesn't change anything.

@AshAngg2000
Most mobile browsers have the ability to toggle the option "Request desktop version", or something of this nature. This tells the browser to fetch the desktop version of the site. You don't need an RPR setting for this!

Can mobile users get a settings option to switch back to the desktop version? I personally liked it...

Looking nice but even though I come on my mobile I have grown accustomed to the desktop layout on my phone, so it would be nice if you could switch between them to better fit the members preference.
