The diagram in the first clue is known as the Meyer Square, a flowchart for practicing longsword cut/flow drills. The second clue refers to guards and fields, pointing to the ox and plow guard positions, the two most basic guards, where ox guards against a high strike and plow against low. The third clue asks you to guard against the cuts in the third sequence on the Meyer Square - a high cut, two low, and another high, so requiring a combination of ox, plow, plow, and ox.
