I should clarify, you don't get 3 knots. One knot 'upgrades' at those numbers. If you get to 19 or more and collect a few, you can trade them to Moa for cool stuff. You don't lose the knot, just the color. And yeah, they are awarded after the 1st of the month Kim time.
