That's the red mana symbol from Magic the Gathering!

I don't know how moves work in MtG, but would someone turn a card toward another card in a specific move or for a specific purpose?
I searched for golden braid in MtG and got the Braid of Fire card.

Yeah, in MTG to attack someone or use a specific ability you "tap" a card by rotating it 90 degrees to the right on the board. It sounds like it might be a transforming werewolf card, of which there are several red-only. Some probably have blonde hair, I think I may have one.

Rereading the clues, they have to be two legendary cards guessing from the lore hints here. Non-Legendry's don't tend to have much lore or background to them. The clues imply a duo, both inventors or creators of some sort. Potentially one could be Phyrexian related, as they have a bio-mechanical creature-creation theme. Might be related to the Brother's War?

New hint: Even in high imperial name, a blend of technology and primal history.

For some reason made me think of Horizon Zero Dawn, even though I know nothing about any of it. Y'all look pretty sure about MtG anyway.

I did try scraping Modern Horizons 3 for relevant legendary cards, but had nothing. Didn't scrape the same for Modern Horizons 1 or 2.

Oh! Brain bolt! I tried "Ajani" before, but not "Ajani Goldmane" specifically, which in MTG the difference of card names is important. If it's not Ajani, it could be someone related to him!

Hint: While the final answer may take some Poetic Ingenuity to figure out, you won’t find it on a card.

That may be a sign people are getting closer.

Both cards feature Saheeli, specifically on Ixalan. That setting also features vampire conquistadores, which are associated with black mana. So thats almost certainly what the "dream of conquest shadowing the horizon" refers to
