I've been wanting to make a new character, but only have a vague base idea, so what better way to figure this out than with the help of the community! :D So here's what I'm thinking..

1. Female

2. Modern to slightly futuristic setting, fantasy compatible

3. Her appearance does NOT match her personality.

We can go stark opposite, or just very different from what your first impression would be. Cliches/stereotypes welcome, such as: popular cheerleader is a huge nerd, emo/goth is super upbeat and peppy, ect.

If you're thinking about the fantasy element, I'm leaning toward having it related to her personality, or having absolutely nothing to do with either personality or looks.
I’ve been pondering somewhat on this challenge, as it is easy to go into the super cliché. The total paranoid super-model or that roundish shy girl be that “unrecognizable” super hero. I think many of those have been done and are a bit redundant. I don’t mean that playing them is false, no, far from that. Please continue to play those antagonistic characters, as far as possible, they are awesome!!!
But here, and that little fantasy element is the clue to it all, we’re looking for something else, maybe unseen.
So I thought more of a girl (age can be adapted to avoid the forbidden limit), rather small, seemingly fragile, loves flowers, shy and subject to pity. Inside is an other creature, if good or bad you can decide, that has proven magical strength and can either create or destroy a whole world. She’s is sent from some entity to decide about the future of Earth and the destiny of billions of living beings, maybe cold and emotionless (like those unforgiven business women) or with a ‘social’ hint that makes it difficult for her to make a clear and precise decision, like she’s done before already.
I think it might qualify as a trope at this point, but "modern to slightly futuristic" kinda made me think of someone who seems very different between reality and how they present themself in a virtual world. Someone very involved in some particular game or something, for example, can often be depicted with a very bland, mundane reality and have trouble connecting socially IRL, etc. Might be in pajamas a lot or just grab other clothes that are cheap and fit well enough. But that can be because she pours all her time and money into developing her idealized online avatar for a space where she's actually very engaging and skilled.

Or it doesn't have to be limited to a game. Could be she's some sort of hacker, activist, creator, etc who has a more broadly-known persona across the web. It's just still very different from how she presents herself offline.

Could even be that some special skill like technomancy or something is part of what makes her so skilled with virtual spaces, and so much more at home in them.

Taking this and what the others have said here, I visualized a beautiful raven-haired school-spirit cheerleader with light blue eyes (I'll get into these specifics in a moment) who doesn't fit into the whole dim jock/cheerleader cliche clique. Instead she is quite smart, and likes doing brainy deep computer stuff (Zelphyr's idea) and nerdy stuff like playing Chess and Dungeons and Dragons with the school gaming club. This causes a lot of social distress from both the populars and the nerds. To bring in the fantasy angle, she maybe changes to a raven while playing the game and has to learn how to control her avian side.

That is what I was inspired to write based on the ideas given. :)

I am absolutely loving these ideas! I'm so glad it caught some interest.

@Fantax totally makes me think of Lilith or Castiel from Supernatural. Super sweet young girl that is actually a super evil creature. Or the otherworldly being that has no clue how to pretend to be human lol

@Zelphyr I do love the idea of the introvert/hermit that gets sucked into video games and can be whatever persona they want. Some of my favorite animes are about that lol About the technomancy and hacking... meet Logan, my hacking techno-maniac lol I would absolutely LOVE to further flesh her out and be able to play her.

@Dawnia I love the social distress! Lol sounds like chaos all around her and its great. There's any number of ways she could have a fantasy element with that

Oooh... undercover otherworldly technic being that gets obsessed with cheerleading and video games?!
She can be a researcher of finding ways for teleportation, and this means that she is working with a hidden faction of the government, but her motives are not aligned with the government, for she believes there is a dark dimension where there are different kinds of beings, dark ones, whom she could interacts and possibly find a lover, or perhaps find a way to make her human body reflect her dark emotions so not only she gets a lover but also a power that would make her able to use her gothic emotions her weapon like wielding sadness, sorrow as weapons...

I just pitched a similar idea to Sanne’ collab-character. It works here as well…

Drumroll please!

I am pleased to announce the finished product of your suggestions!

Taking at least one aspect from each of you, I have come up with something that makes me quite excited.

As added incentive for y'all to check her out, I put little credit kudos on one of her pages, with links to each of your accounts. That way, anyone who looks at her, will find you lovely people.
Had a browse through her pages! Wonderful character!
Maw, my Australian Raven friend, approves!
