Hi! This post is for the Collaborative OC Building Event!
I'd love ideas for a character who appears completely normal, thinks they are normal, but isn't really what they seem at all.

Okay, going to throw something strange out there.
A scientist or researcher at some facility who is, as said, average in appearance and personality. But they were actually pulled from another dimension, having lost the memory of being there during the dimensional shift. In reality, they had created a device to try and escape something that was hunting them in their home dimension. The device worked, but for some reason also left their memory scrambled. The company they work for is the same in both dimensions, but many of the details are different, such as particular people. The memory issues are explained through an injury, as their arrival made them looked as though they crashed into this plane. Any faint memory of the device, their escape, or the hunter is clouded to the point of being imagination. The person themself begins to believe that they had always been here, despite their memories of a slightly different world.
However, the entity has not given up its hunt. It can not manage a physical form between the planes, but it can influence forces on the new one. It creates signs, affects events, and otherwise directs the scientist towards dimensional studies and unknowingly getting them to recreate the device to cause the rift to reopen and allow them to continue their hunt!
It keeps the character seeming normal and thinking they're normal, when in fact they're a danger to the entire plane of existence that they are now stuck in!
Its a bit out there, but hopefully there's something interesting to pull from all of that!

I love your idea, EndlessSpiral!
I'd love to toss out the idea that the character is a direct descendant of a cryptid of some kind, such as Mothman being their dad or something, and they have no idea. So, when they start exhibiting traits of the cryptid, they think it's always been the way it is, since they grew up with them.
What do you mean a fascination with bright lights and eating clothes for a snack aren't normal? Every teen goes through their "lamps are super pretty" phase. Sometimes it carries into adulthood. Typical human stuff.
