This is just a small thing, but I think the default entity to post as, in guestbooks on one's own character profiles, should be the character whose guestbook it is.., not the player account as it currently seems to be. Like, you could still change it to who/whatever, but the default would be that character, not yourself. If not always, then maybe at least for anonymous characters? I live in constant fear (exaggerating) that I will accidentally post as myself when replying to a guestbook comment rather than doing so as the character. I know there's the option to edit the comment after posting, so this isn't really a huge deal... Still, if it's doable, I think it would be nice to make this change
I don't think the guestbooks were ever meant to be an IC space; that's just how a notable chunk of the community started using them.
I've seen some cases that even treat it like it's characters texting back and forth to each other.

I get why the first post of a guestbook is the writer/player. I always check and verify my character when first posting in a guestbook; be it my characters or someone else's. It would be nice if any subsequent replies to a guestbook post defaults to the character one used in that guestbook thread. If it's a new guestbook post, it has the writer/player. If the 'reply' is clicked under a guestbook thread where one's character has started or already replied, it should default to that character. Just my unsolicited thoughts.
A funny RP Repository dream side-note... I have a few anonymous characters (most had at some point previously been public) and I dreamt that there was a glitch when Kim was doing the update a couple weeks ago, and all anonymous character went public.

This is the more common use-case now, but when they were very first launched it was mostly people just like... "Ooh, I like what you did with this profile, we should RP sometime!" So defaulting to players all the time made the most sense. It very rapidly morphed into IC usages as predominant, though, especially with us not having forums in the very first months of the site.
So this is an idea I'm happy to consider!
As someone who has absolutely outed myself in guestbook comments on anonymous characters, this is something I'd love to see implemented.
Just my 2-cents, but my long-term partner and I enjoy breaking the 4th wall and having our characters talk to each other outside the game using their guestbooks. You can always edit and change who you post as so if you use your player profile instead of one of your characters, the mistake is easily corrected.
Iām always secretly praying for an eventual trust-reveal.
