Also, I tried decrypting "vedjqcs qdrgqsdsii" with RotN where N=1 to 25, and ALSO tried a vigenere cipher with a keyword of "scout". No luck. But maybe i did the vigenere wrong because i just used an online tool

The clue about the sarpedon does mention ciphers. Could be a different substitution cipher, or...
