Ahoy!

As I find cooperative horror to be very engaging (And I'm too scared to attempt it alone), I want to try out a long term one together with others, based on Silent Hill.

Unfortunately, I have never played SH (only watched Walkthroughs), so I would wish for at least one player who did and could help out forming a plotline, even leading the others if directions to where to proceed next are needed.

To not make it too convoluted, I suggest a small group of 4 players.

But without romance, please. ;)

Looking forward to receive some interested players. :)

Details: Freeform, adjustable length posts, long-term RP partner preferred.

I would be interested. I played the game years ago, and always have been a fan of the movie.

Okay, could you take the role of a GM if necessary? :)

I've never been a GM before
mm pyschological horror...

I've played up to 3, oh the fun we used to have my flatmate and I, cowering together on the sofa, both yelling "you take the controller! NO YOU!"

Ahh good times.

I still remember him walking into my room grinning all "I'm playing SH3, there's a dead pink rabbit, you gotta see this"

we didn't emerge from his room for 2 days ahah.

I'd like to play but not sure how much I could help with plot, solid plots aren't something i'm too good at. However I can give some suggestions maybe and we can brainstorm together?

Me neither, but do you think it is possible for you to "nudge" us in the right direction if we somehow get stuck and don't know where to go next? :)

@Purple_monkfish

Sure! Everything you can think about. :D

My first question, as it would more or less limit our character selection:

If I recall some Silent Hill games, how exactly you get into this town (It doesn't have to be exactly Silent Hill, we could use something else of course. Maybe Royal Mountain or such) varies from game to game. Either it calls you (2), you somehow end up there (Homecoming) or it is simply an abandoned town on your way to your planned destination (Downpour).
Which way do you think would be the best? I have no problem simply creating a new character for it, as I'm sure it would be a bit problematic for my existing elderly space pirate. Unless of course our equivalent of Silent Hill would deem it perfectly logical to simply open a door for him somewhere.

Okay, we are already 3 players. Just one more and we could start if we have a plotline by then.

I could do that much.

Excellent!

So, um, I guess that our main goal should be escaping from our personal Silent Hill, right? But sadly there's the point where I'm pretty much clueless, as if I consider some games, it's more or less the town itself which decides when you can leave.
Remember that according to SH canon, there's magic and stuff so I see no reason we couldnt fudge things to have anyone anywhere battling their personal demons (and other people's as well).

I have a character I think will work but might get a bit er... upsetting because he's not a good guy. Ahem.

But I suppose it IS horror.

I'd say, as long as your guy isn't deliberately trying to get everyone murdered just for the lulz, I'm fine with it. :D

So with that magic in play, how does it limit our character selection, if at all?
Woo, Silent Hill! I STILL see that town in my restless dreams. I'd be totes up for this. Actually I know a guy who wants to run a Silent Hill game if you're still looking for a GM who knows their stuff. I know my stuff too, btw. Everything from Xuchilbara to White Claudia. Silent Hill is one of my all-time favourite franchises.

Heck yes, but how do we run a forum-based RPG with a GM? I'm afraid Chat-based won't work due to different time zones. :(

Okay, then that would be 5 (One additional really won't hurt) players, I suppose we could start plotting^^
I don't know, good question! I suppose the rp format is something to figure out.

Plot-wise... I'unno. We could go with the Silent Hill 2 model. A bunch of damaged people who are running away from their own inner demons are drawn by various strange coincidences to the quaint New England resort-town of Silent Hill, which they discover to be abandoned, decrepit and enshrouded in a blanket of perpetual fog - at least from their points of view. The Order and other mainstay elements of the series could be worked in as we go. I personally have a few broad ideas for thematic subplots and at least one pretty solid character arc in mind. I've been thinking about how I would handle a take on Silent Hill for yonks! What are your thoughts? And how familiar is everyone with the franchise?
GM lead forum rp is possible, basically you have someone who plays all the NPCs, the monsters etc and sets all the scenes, sits back, lets people react and kinda guides them around. Storyteller is probably a better term, but i've played in a few games that were diceless and had a GM. The GM is there simply to stop everyone just huddling in a room and not doing anything lol.

You guys okay with incorperating elements of "The Room" and the whole idea of being able to change yourself using certain rituals? The guy i'm considering is keeping himself alive through something similar ish, to what Walter Sullivan was doing. He might just be nuts of course.

Okay, then I'll create an entirely different character, as though my space pirate has some inner demons that are tormenting him, I would find it very far-fetched if he suddenly shows up in Silent Hill (Remember, we can just use a substitute).
I think I'll throw an old farmer from Europe in.

I'm generally open to everything, especially since I only know the games from walkthroughs, so I'll wait what the others say. Maybe your friend could come in?

@Purple_monkfish

If it was done before in the games then I'd say it's okay, but from the sounds of it, couldn't it be abused to change yourself to whatever you need to solve situation X?
Hallo, Purple_monkfish. The Room was an awful game in terms of gameplay, but the story elements in it are as fantastic as the other three Team-Silent titles, and I would absolutely love to incorporate the concepts of the Rite of Holy Assumption, the 21 Sacraments, the Valtiel Sect of the Order, the Red Devil that Jimmy Stone put into Walter Sullivan et-cetera. Some of those concepts I was planning to use myself!

I would wish though that we just won't throw nearly everything from all games/movies in as it would only become confusing and overloaded over time.
Certainly not, as that would be derivative! The movies really have rather little to do with the games in any event; the cults depicted in both movies are nothing even close to the depiction of the Order from the games. And Alessa's storyline is completely different too.

But really, I think it would be better to set an rp after the events of the games. To clear the slate, as it were. New heroes and villains - and a new incarnation of the Order, since Dahlia, Kaufman, Claudia, Vincent, Leonard and Tony Archbolt are all dead. Alessa/Cheryl/Heather's storyline is over and done with, too. We shan't have to worry about crowding the story with their baggage. How's that sound?
UAZ-469 Topic Starter

Yep, a complete new start would really be the best in my point of view. :)
Hey there, can I get in on this? I've been trying to get a Silent Hill RP going on here but it didn't work out. As such I already have an idea in mind and am willing to take the role of GM.
