Forums » Art & Creativity » WINNERS ANNOUNCED! Ready! Set! NaNoWriMo! [Raffle]

Lime and I decided since we're pretty close to being done with the month (and it is highly unlikely that anyone else was going to put their name in at this point) that it was safe to pull the raffle winners!

So without further ado, here are the Winners!

Congratulations everyone!!! We'll be PMing everyone in the next couple days :3

Original Contest Text
So it is November 1st, and as a huge advocate of NaNoWriMo, I've decided to help get people writing by holding an incentive contest for all the denizens of RPR.

The Rules:
1. You have to have a NaNoWriMo account.
2. You have to try*.
3. By entering this contest you are agreeing that you will not jerk me around, that at the end you will show proof, and you will not cheat.
*Addendum* Please, no Anon accounts. Just to be fair and protect against double entrants.

*Writing 50K words can be intimidating...
even for people who write every day. You might worry that you won't/can't finish, that you won't have good ideas, that you won't be able to find time, or that somehow you will fail. I don't believe in that.

You aren't doing this for money. This isn't a competition where something is at stake. You are not going to lose anything if you don't reach 50K words. You should be writing because you love to write, you love to tell stories, or you just love to entertain people. You should do it because it makes you happy and simply because, well, you want too.

If you try, you've already won.

The prize:

If you respond to this thread, keep us updated, play word wars, hang out, or whatever gets cookies up... You are automatically qualified for an art raffle.

At the end of November, I will draw 5 names out of a pool of entrants (Mods and Admin included ;3 ) and they will each get one full body depiction of a character of their choice, colored, with a solid/omitted background.

The pictures will be digitally delivered in December while I am back in the states for Christmas.

(Contest may be changed or updated if the number of entrants exceeds expectations, but will not be canceled unless a major calamity befalls yours truly.)

So, who is in? Post to this thread and tell me how long you've been NaNoing, your NaNo name, how many novels you've done, what's your favorite genre, and what you think your story will be about!

If you would like to add me I am Random_Highjinx, and I would love to have you as a writing buddy.

*UPDATE 11/2/2013* Limeface has offered to contribute art if we go over 15/20 entrants. :D So it's possible that there could be 7/10 pictures to win! :D

Hi I'm Dingoz on the Nano Site, and while I have no ever completed Nano, I've written one Novel.. lost and for the greater good since it was awful. But I'm gonna really try it out this year and hopefully complete it.

I love all types of genres, but i like my novels a little gritty, that or fantasy I suppose XD

My Novel is Called Epilogue Earth, it takes place far into the future after the earth was mysteriously destroyed, and three people, separate but connected. All living in the Capitol of Mars, Olympus, where the last bit of humanity remains. All try to figure out what happened to Earth, before the same thing happens to Mars.
MAI NANO ACCOUNT IS FISHGUTS ADD ME. <3

Been doing NaNo for the past six years, been successful the last four times and am hoping to make it my fifth victory. :3 Ironically enough I have never finished a novel. Ever. *shaaaame* But this year I hope to finish my novel since I've decided to use NaNo this year to achieve it.

Favorite genres are fantasy/historical fantasy, but I don't mind a modern tale, just I hope it's infused with a little magic. ;3

(edited because I Jinx helped me realize this would be a better choice for NaNo)
I am a Genus - In a rather uneventful time in the Planet Viceres' history, the world fell from a swelling technological civilization. It had no fears, no problems testing the limits of humanity, or even wondering if they were playing God. Through the brilliance of the Jasper's Science and Research Division, they discovered how to create a biological form of "magic", something that was surprisingly tangible, explainable, and was a beacon for a new change of life for an age now bored with technology.

It was only inevitable, that something, something went wrong soon after.
Okay...here goes. My name on the NaNo site is Rubix Cub3, I did not complete my novel last year but I did get over 6,000 words in so I was proud of my first attempt. This will be my second year at NaNo, and my favorite genre is probably Parody/Satire/Comedy. I enjoy something fun though I'm always attracted to adventure and horror as well. This year my novel will be called Of Fur and Chalk and I will be writing about the Dog Show world. Focusing on it as a YA novel for a change of pace. ;)

Limeface was getting after me for not posting all the stuff I asked about. So here XD :

I've been doing NaNoWriMo since 2004. My original account was deleted, but the one I have now is better anyway XD lol

I only started winning NaNo from about 2008 (When I started writing my endings first lol) but I've done about 5 novels.

My favorite genre is a fight between Historical, Romance, and Supernatural/Horror. I'm not a one trick pony when it comes to writing. I can do it all XD

This year my novel is going to be Alternative Historical fiction (real history, alternative version... a 'What if' if you please.)The title, currently, is The Black Rose of Denmark and takes place in the late 1300's early 1400's. Basically it'll be me playing fast and loose with what might have happened had King Henry IV married the Prince of Wales to Queen Margaret I of Denmark's adopted daughter Katharina of Pomerania.
o, who is in? Post to this thread and tell me how long you've been NaNoing, your NaNo name, how many novels you've done, what's your favorite genre, and what you think your story will be about!

I'm in! :) I am worried about how well I'm gonna do because of college, but I am super excited to try!

I have done NaNo for three years. This will be my fourth :)
CelestinaGrey, naturally ;)
I have done three novels. Two for a series, one not in the series.
I haven't really written in it for NaNo much but my favorite genre is medieval fantasy :D
Oh goodness. For once I have the entire plot planned out. I am SO excited! It has a Beauty and the Beast basis kinda thing. :3

I'm so in! I have done NaNo every year since 2004, though I think I missed 2007 or 2008 since I didn't think college would let me. (That is incorrect--I should have tried. XD) Let's think... only 2 wins, unfortunately. One year I got to 35k, and two years I got to about 20k, but all the other years were less than 10k. 2006 was the year my current noveling project was born (in a very different form) and 2011 is when I started rewriting it from scratch... and kept writing, ending up with about 100k. Then I restarted again and this year I'll be continuing the journey.

I definitely prefer "middle fantasy" books. I like unique and believable magic systems with well-defined rules. I prefer it when the magic goes in tandem with political intrigue and complicated interpersonal relationships. I think fantasy worlds offer amazing opportunities to explore these sorts of themes! My story is quite similar, featuring a young soldier who finds out his "luck" is actually a peculiar magical gift that ties him to the savages of the northern forests, who he has spent his entire life waging a bloody war with. This novel has changed titles MANY TIMES. Currently it's Griffontongue.

My username is screamingnorth!

I'll have to convince Redbeard to post here later, too. This will be his first year doing NaNo. He struggles with perfectionism and it's taken me as long as I've known him to convince him to try NaNo!
=) My username on NaNoWriMo is AnnieIsOkay. This is the first time I've done this. Actually, I'd never heard of this event until some weeks ago, and decided that it'd be the perfect opportunity to finish my story. I'm aiming it to be a sort of twisted Alice in Wonderland-ish retelling. Ish because yes, there is a Red and White Queen, and some chess, and a girl falling and then finding herself in another word, and definetely a hat. A top hat. But despite that, my MC is not very Alice-like. It's kind of tied to my interest in how people are always trying to be like somebody else, and the importance of being true to oneself. I want this novel to one day influence people and work towards a path of more religious/race/culture/gender tolerance. But first,

The dreaded first draft D=

@ Nuclear_Dingoz

I learn something new about you all the time. I had no idea you had an interest in science fiction type stuffs. I love it !:D

Good Luck!

@ Limeface

I DEMAND AMAZING ART COMES OF THIS STORY! (Not now, of course, cause you must write it first! *glaaaaare* It puts the words on it’s document or it gets the hose again! )

I know you, and I know how creative you are, so I know you’re going to bang this out. You got dis. You just have to make sure you don’t over think it all right out of the gate. Bare bones first, flesh second. REVERSE ZOMBIE WRITING! GO! <3

We are going to have so much fun with word wars. XD Super derp time! lol

@ Rubix

I honestly did not see this coming… I should have… but I didn’t lol. I think this will be interesting, I actually have never read something like this. If you finish it, I bet it would really sell, especially since you have some much experiences with your wrinkle loafs. I can’t wait!

Good Luck!

@ CelestinaGrey

Weeew! Don’t be worried, hun <3 I’m sure you’ll give it your best shot, and if nothing else, you’ll have the beginnings of a great book and oh man I am such a sucker for retellings XD. Especially Fairy Tale / Old Story retellings. Having the plot planned out is one of the BEST feelings for NaNo, to me it feels like that ‘I have a shiny new toy’ feeling lol.

Good Luck!!

@ Heimdall

*Blushy whiskers* I must have an art crush on you or something, cause when I saw your name pop up, I was like ‘ohmigosh’. You can ask Lime, it’s true XD lol.

That sounds epic! Are the northerners Griffon people or is it more symbolic? Oh jeeze, titles, yes… I know those feels. The title I picked is kind of tentative at the moment. It’s a really romanticized title and I’m not sure if it fits with the overall feel of the work. So it’s just sitting there… mocking me. I’ll probably end up changing it at the last moment XD lol.

Please do! The more the merrier! Especially if he’s a first timer. I love newbies! :D

@ Annie_isOkay

I’m so glad that you decided to try. It is such a fun way to get writing and you’ll see so many people on NaNoWriMo who just decided one day, “Hey, I’m going to try this.” And they ended up writing a novel that they were able to sell. It was pretty epic.

That sounds like a great way to retell a story. Especially now when intolerance is such a big deal, I really hope it turns out well. Yes, the first draft… dun dun dun… lol ;3
Haaay! I'm in! This is my first time doing this so I really hope I can make it to the end of the month. I really like my idea and it'd kinda be sucky if I didn't do anything with it. ;-;.

My NaNo name is Mad Rat Bird! I've never written a novel here, but when I was a kid I actually wrote about 145,000 words in a really, really atrocious novel. I can't even tell you what it's about it was so awfully put together lmao. But I did it!

My favorite genre is probably fantasy, horror, or science fiction.

My Novel is called Seeking Bastion and it takes place an unknown amount of years after present-day. After a massive meteor hit the planet, most of the Earth's inhabitants died off, aside for those on the complete opposite of the planet. After years of waiting, when all the dust was settled and the planet was thawing out a bit from the ice-age it was put through, humans began to spread out once again.

The story itself is about a little girl who dreams, every night, of a place abundant in life and beauty. She constantly comes up with different reasons as to why she's without her parents, but seems to believe each and every one of them. She meets a man who says he can take her to the place she dreams of, but is he telling the truth?

DUN DUN DUNNNN

But seriously I'm so nervous about starting this. I'm already attached to the characters though. <3.

@ MadRatBird

Yay! Another first timer! Man, it makes me so happy that there are so many first timers on RPR. It's awesome :3

Don't be nervous! You'll do great! The most important thing to remember is to NOT edit in November. Edit in December. That's a really important thing to keep in mind, otherwise you'll just keep going back and tinkering while you should be plowing through. :3
I'm a first timer. I'm intimidated, but Jinx has magical sorceress powers that have persuaded me to try. My favorite genre is fantasy in just about any setting; medieval or modern. My novel's title is being worked on, but for now it is "Not All of Me is Dead".

Summary: Matthieu Vega was a normal man until the day he found an ancient artifact. It tried to claim his life until a Reaper unwittingly intervened. Cast into a world not his own, Matt has to cope with his new life full of strange creatures, different worlds and his new found powers.

@ f0x1nth3b0x

It's all this fabulous fluff I have... I just snuggle and seduce and make it seem like a grand idea with my fluffiness! XD

Don't be intimidated! You already started! The hardest part is over <3
I joined for the first time this year, as a form of distraction. I didn't get enough time beforehand because I joined last minute, so this year I'll only be doing a lazy little anthology as a practice run to get a feel for the site. Next year I hope to do my actual full novel with some original characters.

The anthology is based around a fantasy steampunk / clockpunk world. I've got 4000 words for the first one.

I feel like I'm cheating this way! It's still only like the second day, so I might just swit ch back to my original idea. I got peer pressured out of it like a shotty afternoon tv special.

My username is Astrologically-Absurd. Obviously spelt right if I've gotten it wrong. Evil phone. Favourite genre is modern-supernatural for writing, I'm hopeless otherwise. I spend too long studying otherwise XD
Highjinx Topic Starter

@ Full-Moon-Insomniac

I'm glad that you're doing it! Anyone who likes to write should, it's great fun! :3

I like to read everything, and I'm glad more people are doing steam/clockpunk genre. There needs to be more in the market! You never know, maybe after next year you'll get a chance to try getting published! It's really awesome how many people are able to self publish then get picked up by bigger publishers. Trying/starting is the hardest part <3

I added you as a writing buddy, so your name must have been spelt right lol. *throws phone a digital biscuit*
I was very surprised to have the nerve to attempt NaNoWriMo, for the very first time, as I do know that I am rolling in assignments and papers to review. But, I shall see if my tale will come to me easily, which, I hope it does.

I have never done a sci-fi roleplay, and I would have to say that my favorite genre is medieval fantasy. My novel, however, is being written within the 1500's, before the invention of snapchances. It is still a fantasy, but the "main" character is only physically fantastical. What I have in mind is a very, very unsuccessful criminal attempts to have his name be known throughout the city, to improve his ranking within his harsh family. After being sent to rot in the local prison, which is not the first or second time, he is released and the family sends its "help". This is around the same time that the city is hosting its grand magical tournament.

My username is Collaborator, as it is definitively fitting, and my novel is thus named the Collaboration Project. This will be my very first novel, as I have only written short stories. One was a modern horror, the other a story about an older male and the local church.

@Highjinx

Baw, I'm no one to have an art crush on! :P

The forest people were humans that spent too long living in a magical forest, so now they are plantlike people. The main character's mentor figure is a lord of House Lionhawk, so his coat of arms bears a griffon on it. The story is about the forest people but also a lot about the main character's relationship with his mentor!
Oh man so many awesome people! Please add me everyone! I have tried to add you guys, but some of you come up as not there or an error on the site keeps me from getting search results.
I'm super excited you guys! :D
Guys, I'm pumped! I've never done NaNoWriMo and actually joined a couple days before Halloween. You can find me on there as Oove Volcae. I'm actually really new so friends and/or mentors on the site would be awesome. I'm also game for a bit of word warring if anyone else is!

I've started, but never finished a novel before and this one is going to be interesting because I started planning one, but switched it up last second. What I've settled on (and I've started writing so no going back in my mind!) is this guy who is the guardian of his realm, which means his job is to protect it from darkness. That in itself was not enough and I wanted there to be something that would cause him to grow, so I decided to make him actually kind of sexist and at the same time introduce the second main character into the story a few pages later. This one would be a girl who is as skilled as he. Thought it would add something to it!

My word count is on my profile page (which needs to be redone but I'm too lazy to redo my profile...) so you can check my progress there if anyone wants reassurance that they aren't tooooooo far behind! (I'm having slow word count increases over week days, high ones over weekends.)

Good luck everyone!
Okay at this point I can't make promises but.. well I guess I will try this again.

This will be my second attempt. My id on there is Eerised and I haven't actually ever finished a novel :-/
My favorite genre kind of spread far and wide because I like lots of things! This year I think I am going to attempt some form of a snarky romantic comedy.
