Alternative to discord for images?

If you register an account with IMGBB, you have the choice to tick a box for any images you upload as 'Do Not Auto-Delete'. It's been working good for me since I changed over from Imgur, which started blocking a lot of my linked images to my character profiles.

I was last-week-years-old when I discovered this. Of course, I am a rookie at making custom styles. I find having the image hosted with the style allows them to load quickly.

You might try your original test image again and play around with it, it should still be a viable work around. I would not be surprised to see Discord go the same way Imgur did, so I still have my eye out for alternative options (as I horde all of the suggestions in this thread LOL)

This was actually raised to 10 images fairly recently.

The idea of having images over 3MB needing to load for a webpage makes my web admin spine shiver in horror, though, honestly >.>

Just to touch on this,

generally (from what I've been told from my own schooling) you want an image for a webpage to be no larger than around 100kb, but it can easily be compressed below that point using online compressors like this one or by making the image a webp ^_^

webp files are not viewable on your computer (in your file folders etc, you cant open them) the same way images are, but they show up once you code with them.

I'm not sure how to "play around" with the link since I assume if I change anything before the .jpeg/.png, I change the actual image link and it wont work, and I've already tried removing everything that coems after the .jpeg/.png and it no longer works for me

But, just to show it once again, now I have put the same link with everything after the .png removed, and I put it inside a "[ center]" tab

Another favorite site of mine to use is https://www.tinypng.com ! (Although 100kb or less is a bit ambitious especially with 4k screens being a thing and many website designs depending on larger images in general to make designs cohesive lol.)

Webp is a good format for most sites but it also isn't as widely supported as other file types yet. Some browsers (mostly older ones) will still be unable to display them, plus the compression isn't as lossless as you'd want it to be at times which can make a compress jpg or png a better option depending on the situation. It also makes it challenging to save and edit images in the future in case you lose the originals or need to reuse them in some capacity. I've also noticed that a lot of places don't support uploading webp as a file format, so you're more likely to run into that issue as well.

(But if you can use webp, I'm super in favor of doing so!)

Bizarre, I am not sure why it's not cooperating! And you can ignore the "[ center ]" tag, that's just my own personal preference with images, sorry! LOL

I took the URL behind the BBCode and copy-pasted it into a browser window, and I can't even see it that way, it says "The content is no longer available":

I am not sure if Discord restricts this or not, but could it be from a private server, or did the OG message get deleted?

Yeah I believe it's part of the same problem with discord now removing the ability to filehost images, since they appear to also have added that image links break after x amount of hours in order to fight malware.

LOVED that video, thank you for posting it, very informative on something I was having trouble googling without a hundred unrelated links popping up.

I am curious to know how many hours Discord settled on for expiration, because a few of the templates I have use Discord as an image host, and the test image I used above is still kicking for the moment. Guessing it ended up being more than 24 hours?

EDIT:
It's definitely more than 24hrs, I checked this every few days and finally noticed that the image is no longer available
