Ooh, third clue unlocked!
If we are looking at Independence-Day-the-film, perhaps Whitmore?
He appears to be not-it.

I am not a Marvel person and don't have a sense of direction, but the star looked familiar.
Wasn't the Winter Soldier (named Bucky Barnes, as I learned just now) captured and held captive by Hydra, later unbrainwashing himself and becoming a hero? But I am unsure in general. I am sharing on the chance that someone more acquainted or awake than me might weigh in.

Prescience, designer of this riddle wrote:
When aliens came to destroy the world, disbelieved abductee and former combat pilot Russell Casse didn't hesitate to step forward when his planet called. With the famous, albeit drunken slurring of ‘I’m fly, I’m pilot’ he didn't realize that he had sealed his own fate, but he’d also saved his children and the lives of thousands of others by being the one who brought down the alien attack ship over area 51. His courage, despite a lifetime of mockery, derision and alcohol abuse stands as a testament to the indomitable human spirit in the face of terrible and insurmountable odds.
