Haven't done much recently, but I always used Notepad. Yes, the Windows 95 Notepad. When I was at work or traveling, it'd be on Google Docs through my phone.
I've been using LibreOffice nowadays, though I still regularly use Notepad simply because how fast it is.

Trying to get accustomed to Libre and a new OS. 🫣

Just the fact it's free of Microsoft and their AI bull is already worth the hassle to getting used to it. But it's pretty simple and straightforward, I genuinely can't tell the difference between it and Word. Hell, I think it has more features and customizability than I remember Word having.

Big yes to all this!

You shouldn't need a new OS to use LibreOffice. I don't use it often, but it absolutely runs fine on Windows, at the very least, and LibreOffice Writer works pretty much just the same as Microsoft Word or Google Docs (aside from being local in the latter case, rather than online). I switched to it ages ago because I didn't want to pay for Microsoft Word/Office.

Ah that makes sense. For clarity I chose to install Ubuntu over windows on my new device.
I write my post in the rpr reply box and hope for the best when the post button doesn't work like it should have 😂.

I've also used discord when inspiration strikes not at home and Google docs when you know... Doing what I should to preserve my writing and my sanity 😆
I'm a google docs truther FOR LIFE unless replies are pretty short! I have like an allergy to writing posts on my phone but y'all with the notes app are strong.

I've got a bluetooth roll-up keyboard that helps a bit when I really gotta write via my phone. It's a bit awkward since, to make it a little extra small, some keys are doing up to quadruple duty*. And for folks who don't have tiny friggin' hands like me, I can imagine its small size would make it more difficult, too. But it still lets me type more comfortably and fluidly than the little phone screen keyboard. When I, uh, remember it. >.>

* It has an Fn key that works much like Shift, and in tandem with Shift. So, for example, I have a single key for both colons and both quotes. Just the key is semicolon, with Shift is colon, with Fn is single quote, and with Shift and Fn together is double quote.

Oh my goodness, a bluetooth keyboard is absolutely genius. I didn't even know those were a thing. I think I'll have to buy one for myself so I don't keep bringing my laptop on trips!! I owe you my life lol
Legit, that’s magical!!!
For longer posts, I would write them in Obsidian before transferring them to the platform where the roleplay takes place. They're all in one file with headings for easier navigation. The only downside is that it's locally stored on my computer so I have to manually copy and paste it to my phone's notes app if I want to continue writing.

I have used google docs before and can attest to its convenience, but the cost of that convenience makes me a bit paranoid.

I actually can't remember how I ended up with one, tbh. XD Don't recall it being something I'd ever thought about and then I had one somehow?

Hope you do find it helpful, though!
Well, due to writing on live roleplay chat sites with poor internet most of my life, I learn to write my posts in the notepad program on my computer and then copy and paste, otherwise if I did not do this and typed my post in the in service text box, i would have lost the post when Id get disconnected... and oh lordy, it was frustrating!

Imagine being 4-5 paras into a good post then oops! logged out/disconnected! You lose that progress! So typing on notepad saves me a lot of trouble from that... and never break from that habit. Even written this reply in notepad!
I write my posts in the RPR text box. I think I had issues in the past with the page timing out (years ago), but I haven't had that issue in a long while. I'd say the only exception to that is if I'm on my phone. I get signed out after a certain amount of time on my phone (due to inactivity, I think) but not my laptop. Anyways, if I'm ever worried about losing a post, I just ctrl A and ctrl C the post before sending it off. If tragedy strikes, then I can just ctrl v and all is right in the world. Alternatively, if you press send and the post isn't there, click the browser's back button. The text should be in the text box again. (Maybe. Probably. That's my experience. Not techy enough to know if that's because of computer settings!)
I always write in the box first, then copy-paste to a google docs to spell/grammar check and then copy-paste it back into the box and send it
