Aza was silent, like she usually was. She held a clipboard that almost looked too big for her, but she wasn't willing to lose her pride in front of the new guy in Golden Tree Hollow! Not on her watch! Or...whatever a girl can see being this...small.

She looked at the clipboard, struggling with it in her arms, before heading down a hallway. "it's time to check on the orphans." her silent voice said, "do you mind children?" she asked, looking straight up..straight up at Valen.

Valen watched her work, unsure what he was supposed to be doing. He thought it odd that she didn't get a smaller clip board of some kind but he said nothing. She seemed to have things well in hand he thought.

"I'm alright with children," he told her. "I'm just not used to people in general," he admitted, following her down the hallway. He glanced around, looking at the rooms and the people around him.

"Okay, we're doing a check up on all of the orphans between the ages of 7 and 10" she said blankly, before stopping at a set of double doors.

She stared up at the door handles, and grimaced, usually she just knocked on the door until someone opened the door or got the help of Lily but...she turned and looked up at Valen expectantly, not saying a word as she slowly felt her pride go away...she hated being short...

Valen nodded, listening to her as she spoke. between the ages of 7 and 10 didn't sound too bad. He was sure he could handle that... he thought.

Valen wasn't sure what she was waiting for at first, until he saw her glance up at the door knob. "Oh, I'm sorry," he said, grabbing the door knob and opening it up for her.

Aza just gave a curt nod before walking in. "it's fine." she replied before walking down the hall. Laughter, crying, the sounds of barefeet padding to and fro could be heard. There were a few older people helping out, some teenagers even acting as playmates for the lonely kids.

There were rows of doors, but there was also a room with several chairs, couches, tables, toys, and children played about. Some of the caretakers helping out were seen too.

Valen looked around, it amazed him that there were so many orphans. He wondered where they all came from and why they were here. He wished he had found this place sooner... when he was their age. At least he was here now and he was sure once he got settled in there was lots of exploring to do. One his favorite forms, a majestic black wolf, had been dying to get out and go running in the light of the moon. "Maybe tonight," he thought to himself with a smile.

He continued following Aza. "Is there anything specific I need to do?"

"ah, not yet." she said, entering a room down the corridor that was large, with a few examining tables, some chairs, and even some beds. Medicine, herbal remedies, bandages, etc. sat on a counter against the wall and in a few cabinets. There was even a closet full of extra blankets, gowns, and pajamas.

There were even devices for measuring blood pressure, height, weight, etc. Two scales in the right corner next to the counter. A fan sat on the counter and a radiator sat under the window. "Let's begin." She sat the clipboard on the counter, standing on a stool just to reach. "First child should be coming in soon. Oh, this all might take a long while. The kids 7 and 8 years old are often fussy during the check up" she said, sighing, "9 and 10 year olds are better"

Valen nodded in understanding. He looked around at all the equipment. It was quite a set up they had here! His curiosity wanted to go tinker with things but he didn't dare. He stood motionless until he was ready to do something as instructed.

Soon a little boy entered the room. This child was a naga, with pale blue and silver scales, blue eyes, and silver hair. His skin above his waist was pale and he had a tail that was only 2 feet long. This boy wasn't exactly small but he wasn't exactly big either.

Aza gave a reassuring smile to the child before leading the boy to one of the examining tables, and asking for the boy to climb onto the examining table. "Go ahead." he seemed to stare at her warily and look at Valen quickly before he then lifted his arms and grabbed onto the top of the table.

The demi-human grunted and whined as he did it, but it only took about a minute. Aza gave a confident smile to the boy. "At least it didn't take 5 minutes like last time." her voice was filled with amusement as the boy blushed in embarrassment and pouted, crossing his arms and looking at the wall.

Valen looked up as the first child came in. He smiled kindly but said nothing. He watched the Naga boy climb up on the table. "Five minutes?" he thought... but he said nothing. He hopped that his presence didn't bother the boy.

He stood ready to help, whatever he needed to do. He kept trying to figure out what he should do but he just didn't know. He felt awkward just standing there. He had an idea... but he wasn't sure what was aloud in the clinic and what wasn't.

"Do the children like dogs?" he asked Aza.

"It depends on the kids. Some will, some won't. A few are survivors of wolf attacks and such. The small kids may really love dogs, I don't know, they just really like riding things bigger than them." Aza had quickly checked over the Naga boy, weighed him and such, and the boy left the room.

"I'm really not sure what to do..." he admitted. "But I have a golden retriever I can shift to and she loves kids. She is always good with kids. She was my dog before she got sick and died." He looked sad for a bit. "But I saved her."

"Ah, really!?" Aza accidentally let out a tone of hopefulness and excitement but clearing her throat quickly. "U-u-uh...go ahead, go on." she quickly gave a smile "I feel it may be helpful for the kids who need and don't like shots..."

Valen smiled, glad to finally have something to do that felt like he was helping out. He stood there, then shifted to a golden retriever, whos name was Kai.

Kai smiled, in a way only a dog could. She wagged her tail excitedly and panted, prancing about a bit, eager for the children to come in. She barked softly at Aza and licked at her hand.

Aza giggled happily, petting Kai happily before looking at the door. A really small girl entered, she had long, curly red hair and bright blue eyes, freckles dotted her face across her nose on her olive complexion.

The girl was smaller than Aza, and seemed scared. She shivered and looked like she was gonna cry. She knew she needed to get shots, at the age of 7, but she was still petrified.

Kai gave a sad and compassionate look at the little girl and walked over beside her slowly, head low and ears flat. She gently rubbed her head against the girls hand, wagging her tail gingerly. She sniffed lightly and the girls hand and then looked at her with an inviting expression.

The girl was surprised, but smiled and pet Kai. She lightly giggled. "Come on, how about we get that shot done for?" Aza asked her soothingly, making the girl jump, whimper, and hug Kai out of fear. Aza frowned at looked at Kai. "Hmm...you can hold her while I give you the shot." the girl only whimpered and sat on the floor, hugging Kai still.

Aza went over to the counter to grab the syringe and medicine, getting it ready before approaching the girl with gloved hands. "Look straight at her, okay?" she told the girl, who did so. Aza grabbed her left hand and felt for a vein right on the inside of her elbow. Aza then took a cotton swab and wiped the area before taking the needle and injecting the girl. The girl let tears fall down her cheeks, as Aza took the needle out quickly.

She took another cotton swab and wiped off the blood that left the small wound, and she placed a bandaid on top of the cotton swab on the wound. Aza ruffled the girl's hair, "you did it!" she said enthusiastically. She then grabbed a piece of candy, a chocolate bar, and gave it to the girl. "There ya go!"

"Y-yay!"

Kai nuzzled the young girl comfortingly as she hugged her, holding perfectly still while the shot was administered. Then she looked up at the girl and gingerly licked the tears from her face, her tail wagging more now. She had never liked shots either...

Valen was glad that he could be of help in some way. He knew his dog would be a good match for the children.

Kai watched sniffed the candy but Valen was sure to tell her to leave it be. Instead she looked back at the young girl with a playful face, tongue hanging out.

Aza got to weighing, measuring the height, blood pressure, etc. and was quick to get the girl out. Aza then sighed as she girl left, patting Kai on the head. "You're gonna make things go a lot easier...if they aren't Cynophobic." she chuckled, as another child entered the room.

She quickly got this well behaved child in and out, along with a few more. And soon enough, a young 9 year old girl had entered the room. "Time for these patients" she said sarcastically as the girl glared at her, "hey, hey. It's as much of a pain to you as it is to me."

"Your the small one here"

"W-wha...what did you just say?"

"Nothing!" the girl quickly responded, giggling.

Kai trotted up to the nine year old as she came in and the girl and Aza began their exchange. Kai watched, then as the girl was giggling about her "Small" comment, Kai jumped up on her with her front legs and started licking her in the face, tail wagging widely from side to side.
