Kate attempts to talk her way out of this. "It's cool, it's fine, nothing's wrong, uhh.." Kate has no clue what to say next.

Her eyes started filling with tears.

"Dear me... I think I need to um..." She ran into the room she was sure was the bathroom-assuming no one was in there, of course-and washed her face off with water, feeling the panic set in deeper.

"You made her cry!" Kayla says, pointing to Kate.

"What?! No!! It has to be your fault!" Kate says back.

She stared at her reflection for a second.

"How... Why... What...?"

"Argh, I quit!!" Kayla says, running upstairs.

She exited the bathroom and entered the main room again, rather silently at that, the tears gone but it was obvious that, at some point, she had been crying, at least a little.

Kate stares at the floor. "Are you okay..?"

"I am fine." Her reply was flat. "Just a little... confused is all."

"The only thing I can really tell you is that you're not insane.."

"There is no other explanation!" she cried out.

"Yes there is! I'm just not allowed to say, none of us are! You wouldn't believe anyway!"

"You don't know that!" Obvious distress followed by... "... Why wouldn't you be allowed to tell?"

"We just aren't.. We don't know what would happen if we did, even our parents aren't sure.. Probably something bad. But enough of that, I'm saying too much!"

"Something bad? Like... How bad...?" More concern, more concern! "You're not all secretly spider-people, are you...?"

Kate can't help but laugh. She laughs for a solid 30 seconds, really. "There's no such thing as spider-people!" She sighs a bit. "Actually, it's something less severe than that, but just.. It's a huge secret that I don't know if I should tell.."

"I just... Don't understand..." Chiyoko shook her head, staring down at the floor.

"I just need to think about whether to tell... It's just.." Kate struggles to find words. "We all, except Mom and Gracie.. Erm.. Ack, I just can't! I can't say it!"

She sighed, curiosity getting the better of her.

"You all... What?"

"Just nevermind, I can't say it!!"

Chiyoko finally seemed to be okay with dropping the subject.

"We should... go eat, then."
