I think I may be cursed. (Not really but like, also, I'm cursed.)

I've had four people in the last month start an RP with me, have normal looking accounts, well put together characters. Friendly, interested, and creative.

We get 15-20 posts in, then around that point, I reply, they reply, like usual, while I am typing my reply, taking thirty minutes to an hour after they replied, suddenly, when I press send, I get the notice that they've deleted their account!

It's like a curse. I could understand once, but, it's happened three times, and the fourth time just ten minutes ago. I got on to post to someone who was actively replying to me, everything seemed great even, and suddenly see their account is just straight up gone! When it was just there forty minutes before.

It's so frustrating. I wish people would at least tell me they're going to delete their account, I'd understand at the very least even if disappointed. It's so confusing, and weird to be RPing with someone and then suddenly out of nowhere, their account is gone. Not sure why they'd go through all that effort to write 5 paragraphs out to me just 30 minutes before and then leave. lol

Sorry to hear your having shitty luck as of late. I know IRL can seriously take a toll on people at times but i usually try to let people know when im out of spell slots/spoons.

Thanks and yeah me too. I can understand disappearing for a bit without warning but deleting one's entire account is just a bit odd in the frequency it's been happening. I mean I know they have the right to, it's happening a lot lately.
I had this happen a short while ago; This person and I were going back and forth with 4-5 good sized responses a day for a month-ish and then suddenly one morning the character page was gone, the account was gone, nothing left.

It feels really crappy when this happens, especially when it's a good RP you're excited about (unfortunately this one was orz); Sorry you've had to deal with this :(

Especially that many times... wow OoO
Hey Damnation, that does sound annoying, especially when the stories you get started are proving fruitful, and have you on the edge of your seat. I will say though that, real life can be a kicker sometimes. In the past two weeks alone, I was surprisingly admitted for appendicitis, spent 5 days in hospital, got surgery, had a seizure and now have a bug. It's been a roller-coaster of a busy two weeks. Who knows why they left rather than hiatus.

The weird case in this is the one where they write you up a reply and leaving 30 minutes later, but perhaps you where the only one they were writing with and just had a thought that maybe the RPR wasn't for them? Perhaps they were notified that a family member was diagnosed with something awful, and didn't feel safe enough to reach out and say something before leaving? There's so many variables, it's impossible to come to conclusion.

That in mind, while it sucks (a lot), focus on the good. If you really liked a story idea you and one of those writers came up with, try posting an LFRP for it to perhaps rekindle it with someone else. Know that it's not about you, and that they just moved on, for whatever reason. We can't control others, and all the time, we always wanna know 'why?' but sometimes we don't get that, and that's okay. Don't give up. You got fantastic ideas and luckily, the RPR has more than a few good fish in the pond. Maybe to avoid this occurring yet again in such a short amount of time, reach out to a writer that you have a history with and you know for sure won't get up and leave without telling you first.

Hope you feel better soon.

P.ost S.cript: You're not cursed. It happens to all of us at one point or another. <3

Aww yeah, it really sucks when it happens. You're an amazing writer and I loved writing with you, and I couldn't imagine disappearing without letting you know haha. Thank you for being awesome!

I didn't deserve this nice of a reply you are too good to me ;A;

Thank you. <3 I know that that can leave whenever, I know obviously something happened; it just would have been nice to get a warning. I try to be really friendly, and even mention at the beginning that if I get bored or something happens I'll get them know 100%. We spent so much time plotting, because I'm a major planster, I rarely leave things to guessing, and put a lot of effort into the post, and their last post to me was the beginning of a new plot line, and a serious pivotal moment, so it was just odd that they disappeared without saying anything. The plot was very based on their character specifically and mine. So some things wouldn't work unless someone else was willing to create a new character or I find someone with a similar character.

I could definitely post in the LFRP again, (since they found me via my post.) and post with a more specific idea, the ideas we came up with, but I just feel kind of deflated about it now.

I have reached out to other writers on here that I've written with before but they're unavailable, and I have about 3rps each with the few people I have history with currently, so they aren't interested in having a third haha.

However I do know it's not me, it's just...a little crazy that it's happened so many times, and unfortunate. I am not angry or anything, just a bit disappointed is all. My characters are usually exclusive, so I know it takes some time to find the right person to write with and the right character to pair them with; and I won't give up. :)

Again thank you for your response. I know I probably seem silly venting about kind of irrelevent stuff...

Hey, woah now, how you feel is never irrelevant. Doesn't matter who you are. Sure it might be as some people say a 'first world problem', but hell, problems suck no matter what they are. I'm really happy to hear that you know it's not you. Sometimes this can weigh on people's self worth and that is the worst. As you say, it is unfortunate but what matters is that you're not giving up. Refresh that LFRP when you have energy and heart for it and right now, take care of you. Sit down, make one of your favourite snacks and watch one of your favourite movies, or y'know, indulge in Voltron XD Something. Put a smile back on that face, and get back in the saddle when you're ready. <3

It happened to me 3 times this month. So you're not the only one. Us veteran roleplayers will stick it out. Sorry to hear about your bad luck. You're not cursed either.

I honestly really want to get back into writing again, but I feel like if I force it, all of my stuff with come out so blah, and that's fair to no one

Of course it's vent worthy! That would hurt my feelings a lot if it happened. I would be venting all over the place. I vent when people just want to take a break because I take it personally. I feel you, Deidre. *always offers hugs*

No problem! I totally understand. :)

I was going to say that maybe taking a shower would help?

Seriously, I’m sorry you hsvd been the recipient of the line out. I see where it would deflate ones motivation to invest in RP writing with people.

I guess I have a hard time understanding the mental reasoning behind outright deletion of ones account. Yes, I understand why it is done as far as RL issues, like some psycho cant keep RP & RL seperate in their heads and gets all emo and stalky, or a spouse discovers their partner is spending time with someone else in RP, etc. and maybe reads something that sets things off in the relationship, etc.

It just seems quite extreme to me to outright delete an account. Simply logging out and never logging in again works just as well. I probably have a dozen dormant accounts on various RP sites. I don’t delete them because it leaves the RPs intact. Sometimes I log in to see if any messages have come that I can answer

Seeing that this deletion phenom seems endemic on this site, I took to saving my RPs to my computer in case someone I’m writing with decided to pull the pin and blow it all up. It seems too many are willing to use “the nuclear option” and draw a line through their name.

Just throwing in another perspective: they may not have chosen to delete their accounts, but they might have been deleted for breaking rules. Whether that is multiple accounts, lying about age etc.

We can't ever be sure what the actual reason is, but it's worth considering their deletion may not have been their own choice as well. (Which sucks too, because infractions that lead to deletion are usually pretty bad if it's not just multiple accounts. Accounts are only deleted as a last resort.)

Yeah I thought this too. I honestly wish that people who a deleted account were messaging with, would get a message stating the person was deleted. Especially if it's due to lying about age, I feel like if that's the case it's especially upsetting, if there's currently no system where if someone is deleted for lying about their age, and I was rping with someone underage, I'm never contacted and told this is why they were deleted. So I hope there is a system for that already, at the bare minimum there needs to be one if the person was deleted for lying about age. It'd make me really uncomfortable if there isn't.

Nevermind.

I agree that there are a lot of reasons for account deletion that are pretty severe and serious. It makes my skin crawl to think someone I was RPing with lied about their age, because it can have real life consequences. But I don't think I support disclosing the reason for an account deletion.

There are a number of reasons, one of them being that everyone is entitled to their privacy and moderator business stays between a member and the mods. The mods also don't know who was interacted with on a level that has legal consequences because they can't see into private messages (unless the message gets reported) for the same reason, to protect your privacy.

Not every message sent between a minor and an adult automatically has dire consequences for everyone. In order for the mods to know an underage person participated in adult content with me after lying about their age, they'll have to read through my messages and RPs that are private. I'm not okay with them being able to make that distinction and snoop around, even as a guest I'm promised a certain level of privacy as long as I don't break the rules. I also don't want to get a message every time I've interacted with a minor and they lied about their age. Kids lying about their age happens frequently enough that it will be spammy really fast.

I know 100% for sure that if Kim or any of the mods suspect a member is at risk, they'll do everything they can to let that person know and help them out. So if they have reasons to believe that you're negatively affected by the lie, they won't just keep mum and pretend it didn't happen.

I suppose what I'm curious about is, how does knowing why the account is deleted after they're already removed from the site affect the community positively?
