Moriah had just got out of school and didn't have work for the night so she decided to wonder around the streets. She saw the near by park and went over there to get a sketch of the fountain it was the best time. People were heading home and kids weren't playing around the fountain to splash her and run her drawings. She quickly went over there, watching the sun glistening off the water, making it such a beautiful sight to see as the water flowed and sparkled. She smiled and sat down at a bench and began to sketch, her eyes focused on the soft lines on the paper and the fountain. She didn't realize it but the sun was playing with her hair, making it shine and sparkle like her green eyes did. She might dress in all black but she was a very friendly and happy person. She didn't realize that today was going to be a huge turning point in her life.
Dale Barbara, known as Barbie by his friends, stumbled around the park, a searing headache. He had been walking back to his car, when the sickness hit him again. He stumbled into a trash can, and barfed into it, spewing most of the contents of his stomach into the metal bin. He looked up, face a little green, and shook his head, then barfed in it again. It wasn't a good time. He did notice that girl, but he didn't really care right now.
Moriah had been knocked out of her 'own little world', as her friends call it, by the sound of the man near by throwing up in a trash can near by. She looked over at the man. She set her things down and walked over to the man. She gently patted his back, trying to help him out. "Are you alright, sir?" She asked, her voice light and gentle. She really was a kind person, even if she dressed as though she was cold and heartless and one look at her scar said that she had some trouble in her life.
Barbie coughed, and barfed again into the trash can, wiping the spittle and bad stuff off of his mouth, then spitting into the can. He was better now, and looked a little better. No headache, though. So that was good. He wiped his hands on his black button shirt, looking over at the girl. She looked nice, probably had a bad life, but that wasn't the point. "Thanks, I'm fine. Just one helluva headache,"
Moriah nodded at what he said. "I should have some Advil in my purse if you still need it." She said, reaching into her purse that hung at her shoulder. She wore her hair up in a pony tail, with her bangs covering her left eye that was blind and held her scar that has always caused her pain just looking at it in the mirror.
"Thanks. If I could just have a few, that would be wonderful," Barbie said, and scratched his head. He coughed a bit, but otherwise, he was fine. He had somewhat short black hair, which went down to his ears, but was unkept, and everywhere. He had dark eyes, almost silver like, which he never liked, and everyone teased him about.
Moriah nodded and pulled out the Advil. She opened the bottle and shook a few out. She handed them to the guy. "Are you sure you will be alright? Its getting late and if you need a place to stay, I have an apartment not too far from here." She offered with a friendly smile. "I am Moriah." She never said her last name, she hated it and wanted to change it but she would never tell anyone that.
Dale took the Advils, and swallowed them without any drinks. He began to feel better, but he wouldn't feel that better until later. This girl was nice to people. Very nice. She even offered a place to stay! "Thanks, could you? That would be wonderful. By the way, my name is Dale. Dale Barbara, but everyone just calls me Barbie,"
Moriah watched as he swallowed the painkillers and smiled at him. "Its not a problem. It is a small apartment with only one bedroom, the living room and kitchen are connected." She said with a sheepish smile. "I don't have any nicknames, everyone just call me Moriah." She said, noticing that he gave his nickname.
"I guess I'll sleep on the couch, then. Thanks, though," Barbie said, and held out his hand to shake. "It's nice to meet you, Moriah. Thanks. Can you show me where it is? I kinda am lost. I have't been able to find a good place to sleep in a while, and its always hard to sleep in a car without opening the windows."
Moriah nodded. "That is fine." She shook his hand with a smile. "It is nice to meet you too, Dale." She said, her voice soft and friendly. She grinned. "Just follow me. It isn't far from here, just a short walk. I come here a lot to try to get a good sketch of the fountain, it isn't always easy." The sun had already set for the day, letting the sky darken, but be bright with the beautiful stars and the lovely white moon. She walked over to where she left her sketchbook and backpack. It was clear that she was a high school student, even though she looked a couple years older than she was. She put her backpack on one of her shoulders and held her sketchpad in her right arm. "Is there anything you need to grab before we head over to my place?"
"Barbie. Call me Barbie," Barbie thought about it for a second. There really wasn't much that he needed from his car. He had everything with him right now. She looked really nice, though, now that he thought about it. Around 20, like he was. He was out of high school for maybe a year, but that was different. "Just my sanity. That's it,"
Moriah nodded. "Alright then. I am just use to calling people by their first name." She said with a shrug. She nodded. "Alright then, just follow me." She then began to walk towards her apartment. She had an average apartment but she sometimes would paint it and make it look better with the different and bright colors. It always surprised her friends to see her house when she let them come over, because she wore such dark clothes but it matched her outgoing and happy personality. She could bring a smile on anyone's face.
"That's okay, Moriah," Barbie said, and walked into the apartment. It was amazing. Brightly colored and reflected Moriah perfectly. It was funny that Moriah wore dark clothes, though, when she was anything but dark. "Moriah, this is beautiful. You did this all by yourself?"
Moriah smiled at him and nodded. "Yeah, I did. It isn't very hard and it is fun to do during the breaks or when I have free time." She said, closing the door behind them and locking it back. She didn't like leaving her door unlocked at all. "Is there anything I can get you?" She asked.
"Beer. And lots of it. I need to forget some things tonight, if you don't mind. But I'll take coke if you don't mind," Barbie said, and stretched out on the couch. He would sleep there that night. He was tired as hell, though.
Moriah was surprised at what he said. "I'm sorry, but I don't have any. I am not old enough to buy any. I am only 16. If there is something you would like to talk about, please do tell me." She said, pulling a coke out of the fridge. "Here." she said and handed him the coke. "If you need anything, I'll be in my room."
"You are 16? And here I was, thinking of hitting on you... Tsk tsk tsk..." Barbie said, and opened the coke. After around thirty minutes, he began to get bored. He was such a nice guy, but he really wanted to smoke right now. And he didn't think that doing it inside her house was such a good idea. But he opened the window, stuck his head out, and lit a cigarette, and began smoking.
Moriah rolled her eyes. "Yes, I am 16 going 17 in a month. I've heard the same thing from the seniors that have been held back twice at my school." She sighed, shaking her head. "I swear, not even make up can make me look younger." She decided to go to her room and start up on her homework. She really didn't mind smoking, just as long as it was kept outside her house. She really didn't like the smell of tobacco burning and how it stuck in clothing and furniture was a nightmare. A lot of people were surprised that she was only sixteen and owned a apartment and was on her own instead of living with her parents. She couldn't stand her mother and her father wasn't around to help so she was on her with no siblings.
"Just take those old records off the shelf! I said I listen to them by myself! Todays music ain't got the same soul! I like that old time rock and roll! Don't try to take me to a disco! You won't even get me out on the floor! In 10 minutes I'll be late for the door! I like that old time rock and roll!" Barbie had his music playing on his iPod, dancing in the middle of the living room, his cigarette out, but his coke in his hands. He wasn't too loud, just loud enough for him.
