Ukios characters (played by Thekaleidoscope)

Year: 2246 of the Universal Calendar on the continent of Ukios. It is the age of enlightenment and a time for the flourishing of art and culture. At the heart of the culture boom, is the nation of Luxia, which is renown worldwide for its numerous gifted painters, artists and thinkers. Here it is said is where the best parts of the world come together to celebrate the arts. The music of jazz is on the rise and in nightclubs the parties are in full swing, allowing people to express themselves in new ways. It is also a time of rapid industrialisation and prosperity with factories providing jobs for millions and railroads connecting the world. It is the same railroads which carried the flow of people in towards the capital of Luxia: Illumis.

Technology too is booming, with innovations being made in all sectors of work. Newer and better trains and cars are being built while in the sky giant airships carry people from city to city in the most picturesque ways. The mass factories have only further strengthened the totem system of power classification which was introduced over a century ago.

The totems which represent an animal, plant and stone with an overall colour was made the standard designation of the latent abilities people we're gifted with, after the discovery of their nature by Luxian scientist: Charles who could see them. Since then those with the ability to tell have become beurocrats, visiting children on their fifth birthday and awarding them the totem right for them.

Yet it is also a time of poverty, with a defined gap between the working class who work hard hours on low pay in the thousands of factories and the affluent business owners and upper classes who live comfortable lives away from the squalor. Tension too hangs thickly in the air, with the four great powers of Ukios squaring up against each other, ready at any second to bring their great empires down on each other. While other once great powers are wracked by civil wars and dissent.

The Luxian Commonwealth is the first of these, a fake republic whose upper classes have long since settled into running the government, it is only home to a small army which is mainly focused in it's colonies expanding their land. Following that is the vast naval empire of the kingdom of Tideal, an island nation which follows their monarch to conquest. It's rival is the long established Ghiest Empire, it's dominions ranging far and wide supported by vast armies. The newest is the rising Aurean empire, a small nation which after swallowing the other small nations around it has now risen through nationalitic determination to become another world power.

The fresh winds of the early Spring lifts the leafs in the wide streets of Illumis.
Coming from the 7th district all the way to the 15th, draging himself along, advances a young man hidden in a black furcoat that's way too big for him.
The air isn't that cold, it's just that the sun hasn't yet warmed up this part of the town, and that he is very sensitive to the temperature.
As another gush of wind chils him to the bone, Malvia hurries up, not wanting to stay one second in this streets more than he needs to.

The young man gives a quick bow to the merchants who greet him, unwilling to shake their hands as his are inside the fuzzy pockets of the cloak.
Finally, he reaches his building. The smell of warm bread soothes him immediatly as he enters the cozzy bakery of the first floor. It belongs to a couple, nice people who seem to have been here forever. Their shop isn't that popular, quite small hidden between larger shops, but it has a charm that keeps the people of the distrcit coming here, chat a little and smile. Speaking of smile, the middle-aged woman is just opening the metallic blinds, and she gives him a shy welcome, to which he responds calmly.

-"Hi Mister Frostwood"
-"Hi Eleanor, how are you today ?"
-"oh, much better since you gave me those herbs, thank you so much !"
-"ahah, that's good to hear. Well, I owed it to you for all of your free cakes, didn't I ? Be carefull today though : your back is still weak from that cold, don't overdo it.." he said with a sweet smile on his pale lips.
Such idle chat, nothing of meaning he thought as he walked the narrow stairs that led to the second floor, his office.
He really liked Eleanor he thought, she was like a cat to him : a warm presence that was there without being too noisy.
Malvia sighed as searched for the keys lost in his pockets. On the door was marked his favorite saying : "Know yourself"An advice he gave to all his customers even before they entered his lare.
With a loud click, the door opened, and he entered, inhaling the mixed scent of old books and fresh flowers that was the signature of this place. He hanged the heavy coat, revealing a light black and white barman outfit, and stared at the room with contempt.
The office was actually a really vast renovated flat, bookshelves were on every walls, all mostly full of heavy tomes and strange art pieces. On top of each of them where flowers, mostly wisteria that ran accros all walls and girders, giving the impRussian of an inside luxuriant garden, while on the floor,
where pots of various types of wolfbanes. In the center were a little 4 feet square pond with two white carps, on top of which was a glass table, surrounded by brown leather sofas in a circle.
And finally, on the wall opposite to the entrance, was a bay window that let light enter the place and illuminate the dark oak heavy desk on which lied litteral pounds of papers and books.
With another sigh, Malvia slowly came behind it and sat on a carved chair, before starting to open his mail.
With that done, once he was sure there was no important news, he rose again, opened a window so that the music of the adjacent opera's repetition could come in and keep him awake, then he went to a corner of the room, opened a vivarium and pulled a 7 feet long white garter snake, the reptile coiling itself around the young man's neck out of habitude, and then he finally closed the door of the office, but not without flipping the "open for consultation" sign on it.

"Well, here we go, Physias, another day begins for the informant cabinet of the Floral Den... Who do you think our first prey will be today ?" he asked the snake with a sly smile sitting on his lips, as he sat back behind the desk, cracking his longs fingers before looking through the newspaper he gathered.

Malvia would not have to wait long for his first customer to arrive, for just as he was flipping the sign on the door they were just taking the first steps out of their house. Taking a deep breath of the bracing early spring air, he took a moment to adjust his deep blue cap making sure it was perfectly aligned forward. The man in question was Major Henry Aubert, thirty years of age and a soldier of Luxia for a dozen of them.

For him, the wide open avenues and tall terrace buildings of Illumina always gave him fresh motivation to continue serving in his nation's military. Their elegant and graceful designs giving him something physical he wished to preserve. While the length of the journey was not long to the small bakery the time taken reflected a much longer journey. The major having reduced his walking speed to a crawl in order to bathe in the atmosphere of his beloved city as long as possible.

As he began passing more and more merchants he tipped his cap smartly to those that greeted him but otherwise refrained from communication with them. Ensuring maximum concentration towards his mission.

Finally, he reached the entrance to the building where the man he had been given orders to meet resided. It was a bit odd he felt that a building which exemplified part of Lucian culture would be home to one of the most notorious information dealers in Illumina.

While slowly removing his cap with one one hand he pushed the door open with the other, quickly closing it again once he was inside. Not wishing to let much heat escape while the streets outside were still warming up.

The woman inside looked up and at Henry's attire before returning to her work, casually asking the question he was waiting for. "Are you here to see Malvia?"

He nodded gently, "Yes Ma'am."

She pointed to the stairs, "He's up there in his office, I'm sure he will be grateful of a new customer."

The major nodded before slowly taking the stairs, using the time to reflect on everything he knew about the man waiting for him upstairs. Truth be told he wanted very little to do with what he considered to be a traitor to Luxia, yet he had his orders and was unwilling to obey them. When he was sure that the woman downstairs could not see him, he slid his six shot revolver out of its concealed holster.

Pushing open the door with his revolver pointed directly at the man inside, added to his already bulky stature would make him an imposing sight. His first words were ominous, "make any sound and I will take that as you are giving me permission to execute you. Understand?"

As the door opened abruptly, Malvia was taken out of is reverie, slowly blinking his drowsy eyes and rising his head from the stack of newspaper undergoing examination. Calmly, the young man scrutinised his new guest. He small smile pulld his thin lips as he lazily pointed out a poster hanged on one of the shelves nearby the newcomer, it was black on white drawing that said "No guns indoor, it's noisy and it hurts" inside a speech bubble yelled by a cartoonish bird.
As soon as he had finished detailing the soldier, Malvia barely retained a sigh and rose up in his seat, disturbing physias that was sleeping on his shoulders, streching longly and widely as if to touch the heavy clusters of blue flowers that surrounded the whole place. Malvia then yawned and, grinning like a cat in front of a mouse, shows an empty cushioned seat on the other side of his desk, as if to say "come in, you're welcome in here." , while the other hand extends to reach a boiler full of steaming black tea.
Inside, Malvia was really struggling not to give the man sarcastic applause for his dramatic entrance.

Major Aubert would take a few seconds to size the informant up, taking in every detail about the man and comparing it to the files he had read just last night. For that short period of time, he allowed himself to feel just the slightest bit of pleasure over his dramatic entrance. Then just as quickly as the feeling had come he pushed it to the back of his mind, bringing his full focus back to the mission at hand. His eyes followed the pointing fingers towards the sign before snapping back to its owner. "Trust me, the noise and pain would be the least of your problems, the most pressing one would be where you are being buried."

Striding forwards he kept his pistol trained on Malvia, keeping his face as blank and expressionless as possible. Not wishing to reveal anything about what he was thinking towards the man who was so notorious for his manipulation. "Place your left arm outwards please and don't move to do anything else for the moment."

Malvia painfully struggles to contain his laugh, his amusement only seen in the light of his green gaze.
Ignoring the soldiers injonction, the young man pours two cups of black tea, leaving one in front of his guest before taking a sip of his own as to show the sweet beverage isn't poisonned. It's intoxicating scent mixes with the aroma of the innumerable flowers around them.
Taking his time not to push around Physias, Malvia slowly complies to extend his left hand, resting his head on his other hand, the sly smile of playful glee still streching across his pale face, enhancing the faint brilliance of the few greenish scales on his chickbones.

For just a second the major's attention began to slip towards the tea, it did smell so delicious after all. Maybe just one sip wouldn't hurt too much.... It was at this point his inner consciousness kicked in and forcefully and deliberately he raised his free hand, clenching each finger one by one. There he stood fist raised before bringing it down, slamming into his own chest and shattering his revery.

Puffing heavily he closed the last few centimetres which comprised the gap between them, before gently dipping the now bruised fist into his left pocket. What he withdrew was a small armband made of smoothened and polished silver and without hesitation, he clamped it firmly down over the outstretched arm. His face which had been struggling so hard to remain placid and emotionless betrayed a tinge of annoyance. "That was unwise to try that, but this should hold you from making any unwise moves."

"Ahahahaha ! Well done, well done, Mister mysterious Major !" laughed the informant, clearly very amused by the situation.
Malvia applaused the armed man, and sat back in his chair with a more childishly playful smile. Physias, annoyed by all this agitation, slowly slid down the neck of his owner and curled around his hips.
Getting back from his laughing fit, took a sip of tea and a big breath, eyes closed.
"You know, if you knew about my ability, you could have just told me not to use it, I would have listened..."
Opening his forest green eyes, Malvia stared at the man with an intense glare that would have given a chill to anyone. He was clearly peeved but was too courteous to throw a direct threat. Also the gun was still pointed at his chest. Not that it represented any kind of threat in this situation, but an accident happens so fast...
"So, to what do I owe the depleasure of your visit, mister ...?" he asked, as if treating with a particulary rude client.

Henry took a few spare moment of time to straighten his ruffled clothing and ensure everything was as it was supposed to be. Once satisfied with the self-determined necessary smartness of his clothing he returned his full focus to the informant opposite him. The laughter bemused the major slightly, for in his mind there was no reason for it to be produced. "I'm glad that one of us finds this situation funny, yet I doubt you will for so long."

That said he noticed the chilling glare in Malvia's eyes and refrained from engaging the man in a starring contest, he had seen far worse things in the service of his country than a simple glare and refused to be intimidated by it. Keeping the pistol barrel firmly trained on its target before he began to speak. "You owe me the pleasure of arresting you on charges so numerous to count, namely colluding with the enemies of the state and the creation of many unlawful organisations."
( For the mood, if you wish so, click here...)

'This is going to be fun...' thought Malvia to himself, ostentatiously licking his lips at the sight of the proud agent, as if to say "I'm going to enjoy breaking you.", a clear defiance in his gaze.
With a calm and collected voice, failing to hide his jubilation, the young man asked, like he would talk about the weather :
"Oh ? Is that so ? My, my... And with what evidence ? And which organisations ? I need the names so that I can call my lawyers to help me with this bad case of defamation... And you still didn't gave me your name, how rude..."
The informant cracked his finger once again, and, still smiling slyly, slowly rose up, taking his time to walk around his desk.
He helped Physias to coil around his neck again as he sat down in one of the sofas, crossing his legs as he invited the major to seat in front of him with an elegant gesture of the hand.
"And please, put that toy away before you hurt yourself or break a window. Threats only works on people who are weaker than you Major, as a soldier you should at least know that."

A smile slipped across the majors face, breaking his placid mask which to this point had been so carefully maintained. The orders and briefing had informed him that it would be almost impossible to pin down any solid evidence on the slippery imformer and reputation alone was not enough in their system of law to condemn him. It was just perfect that his orders required none to be given. "It just so happens the military has decided that no evidence is needed in this trial, which was held by the way two days ago."

He paused, only moving to fully face the younger man again. The changing nature of the mans face with the tounge forking reminded the major of a snake, fitting really. "There will be more troops arriving any second to form a firing squad for you. By the way, I think a greenhorn like you should not be throwing around terms like weaker and stronger. I'd save that till you properly risked something fighting for the Commonwealth, something you clearly have no desire to do."
( As always, for the mood, if you wish so, click here...)

Malvia froze for a second, staring at the major, searching withing his soul with a glare of his green reptilian pupils.
He coughed a little and asked, calmly, stretching his hands nervously, still looking right in the eyes of his opponent :
"I'm sorry what ? ahah, I must have misunderstood what you meant, because I just heard that you guys were kidnapping me ? Wait no, hold on, nevermind that, did I just heard you say "trial without evidence ?" Is this a sick joke ? Or must I remind you that the people YOU claim to defend FOUGHT for this kind of thing to never happen again ? I mean, you don't look that hold so you're no royalist I presume, you remember what happened to the last one that used arbitrary arrestations ?"
The young man was bombarding him with cutting remrks and questions about his blatant hypocrisy because he was revolted, but also because he was scared. 'I can't die in a place like this ! What would happen to her ?!' he thought.
Now he was almost screaming, his sharp tong lacerating the morality of the man in front of him lips the hits of a bloodied whip :
"How can you even smile while saying this ? And you pretend to protect the country ? Are you really okay with doing this ? Is that why you engaged ?I thought liars were in the higher spheres of the army ? Do you have any Idea of the secret I know about your superiors ?"
'this is bad, I'm panicking...'
Malvia stopped his assault and cleared his voice. He drank a bit more of his tea and calmed down a little, cntrolling his breath, before starting anew with more composure, and the same intensity in his eyes.
"Do you have any idea of how illegal this is ? Do you want me to tell the journals that this is what the army of our beautiful country so valliantly fought for is doing ? Or do you want me to do even worse ?" He pointed at a painting that said "A secret is only a secret if you keep it".

It was finally the Majors turn to position himself in a seat and look relaxed. The pistol being held in such a carefree way it looked almost like a natural thing to be holding during a chat. The only true indication coming from the firmness of the grip on the trigger.

He had expected his statement to make an impression and much to his pleasure he could clearly see and hear the words sink in. The smile had become one of casual familiarity, what one would expect to see on the face of a friend, rather than an executioner. He listened to the desperate tirade in a gentle silence, assimilating the words then preparing his reply.

"Now, Malvia if you truly do believe in the basic rights and freedoms that our people fought for not so long ago you'll be pleased to know that in order to pardon yourself and escape death you are being given the option to join the military and protect them."

He paused bringing out a cigar and lighting it before continuing. "You see, while it pains me to break every part of our creed and oaths there is no choice. You may know that the situation in Caloros to the south is worsening by the day, while it's still functional as a nation at the moment it's only a matter of time before it collapses."

There was another momentary pause as he took another puff on his cigar, the smoke lazily curling out of his mouth. "Now I could give you the rest of the information and explain everything right now, but you already have your choice. There is no point me wasting any more precious breath and time if you choose to die anyway. Oh and a tip for you, when in a hole, stop digging, threatening to reveal secrets now is just going to make it worse for yourself."
( For the fiiting song, if you wish so, click here...)

Malvia then suddenly threw his left arm around, as to chase a fly. A seconde later, the tip of the cigar fell on the ground, cut clean of. Hanging from his left wrist and wrapped around his hand was a metalic wired cable with a weight and a fang like blade at it's end. Slowly, the young man took his time to set the concealed weapon back in his sleeve.
He crossed his arms and took a sip of tea, before staring at the major with the most murderous look on his face, his reptilian eyes seemingly still and unescapable, as if a black fire were behind them.

"Do not. Smoke. In here. I swear by all the gods you can think of, if you ever try to even crack a match in rhis place, I will personnally see to make your death the most unsuferrable experience of your . entire . life. They are many things I can't bear, with you daring to come here and throw such a shady move on me like that, but youdo NOT smoke inside of this room. The tomes and items in those shelves have more value to me than our combined life, so if I see you even tempted to ignite the slightest of sparks, I will kill you. Have I made myself clear ?"
He let a short silence pass, and then, with a smirk, added : "Also, tip for you : pointing at people doesn't you're stronger than them. Maybe search them for weapons before smiling like an idiot. Idiots get killed, mister soldier... I told you : threats only work if you're stronger than you're opponent."
Proud of his comeback and the sharpness of his hissing tongue, he calmly finished his cup and rose again, heading back to his desk, starting to tidy it up, classifying the many different files he was working on before his guest arrived.
"Is there a deadline to when I must surrender ? I have things to get in order and so much work to do..." he ask casually while taking notes of his research on a blank sheet.

Slowly the major sighed, the long and deliberate noise of someone holding back a large block of frustration. His eyes lowered themselves down towards the ruined end of his cigar before travelling the distance back up towards Malvia. With a surprisingly fluid set of movements, for such a bulky man, the Major drew himself to his feet. "As I'm sure you already know there are many different types of totems, civilian, workforce and of course military. Now since you really wish to have strength proven to you, I'll be happy to oblige."

A few seconds ticked by with no action until there was a sudden change, the skin began to look more and more rigid, taking on an almost armour like quality. Sprouting from his head was a thick and heavy horn of bone, one similar in looks to a rhino. We are going to leave now and you can either leave with me, or I can drag you out unconscious."
(For the mood, if you wish so, listen to this...)

Malvia had a silent moment, his left hand playing with the hidden weapon in his sleeve while the over was estimating the sharpness of his desk's paperweight.
Muttering to himself, the informant sighed. "Ugh, it's pointless : even if a I kill him he's going at least breaknow my arm.. and then I'd have to deal with his body and the next guy they will send. This is quite the predicament..."
Going back in his chair, thet young silver haired man grabed a handfull of papers and started writing diverse messages on each of them.
"Ah well, no need for violence, we would ruin the furniture... still, making me leave without a prior warning, that's low... I have a business to run you know ? Ah la la... well, I guess I might as well give in for now..."
All the while, Malvia had wrote five different envelopes and a short poster.
He rose again, and started to search through the drawers for divers things.
Finally, he closed the window with a sigh and walked at the door, grabbing his heavy furcoat on the way.
"Shall we go, Major Rude Rhyny ? Oh, that's a nice nickname for you !"

A smile properly planted itself over Henry's face, not one of pleasure in his opponents shock and confusion, but a genuinely warm one. For the major was pleased that he had managed to get through the entire ordeal without having to shoot what was supposed to be a valuable asset. Turning he watched the final flurries of activity while slowly pushing down his own power, the horn retracting as quickly as it had arrived.

Striding to the door he pushed it open to give the not so subtle hint that yes he wished the informant to leave that second. It was during this time that he properly began to wonder what he had gotten himself into, kidnapping a snarky snake of an informant to complete an espionage squad.

Pointedly ignoring the remark he pushed his face back to it's blank slate. "Glad to have you with us, it was of course the better choice. Oh and you'll meet the rest of the squad back at base. The rest are less forgiving so do play nice and do remember from now on I'm your superior officer."
(For the mood, if you wish so, listen here...)

Gazing back at the room and the things he had gathered in his leather bag, Malvia sighed and closed the door.
He flipped the sign to close, and hanged a note he had written that said "I'm not here. If you're not here either, then there's no one here."
With a gloomy smile he turned back at the major. The accused then jump lightly and extended his arm to reach two meters long black case. He removed the dust than covered it, and hanged accross his back, putting his bag over his shoulder, holding the black fluffy coat under his arm.
"Will you give me a minute of privacy major, I need to have a word with the owner." the snake said, looking warmly at Eleanor downstairs.
Ukios characters (played by Thekaleidoscope) Topic Starter

The major watched silently as the informant whom he had mentally nicknamed to snake prepared to leave. In most circumstances, he would have felt sorry for the young man who was essentially being kidnapped to serve in the army, yet with the list of charges being brought against Malvia, his sympathy was almost non-existant.

As he watched the case being slung over the shoulder his automatic assumption was that it was a rifle and by the look of the dust covering it, the owner hadn't been expecting to get much use out of it. While fixing the cap firmly back over his jet black hair he listened somberly to the request before nodding. "Very well, I'll let you have whatever goodbyes you wish to have with her. However, I'll wait within earshot and if you go quiet for too long you know what I will assume. I may be muscled but that does not mean that my brain is in any way lacking."
