Answers to questions about the RPR

Posted by Kim on September 30, 2013, 12:17pm

You asked 'em, now I answer 'em!

Due to the sheer number of questions that were asked, I'm breaking up my answers into several posts. Here is the first, all of your questions about the RPR!

What is rp? Katia

Fantastic question! RP is short for Role Play, which is at its most basic collaborative story telling. We have an intro article here that serves as a pretty good overview of the core values that nearly all RP games have in common.

Why does the (c) at the bottom never change to 2011/12/13? Sanne

I probably get at least one bug report a month informing me that the copyright date on the site is erroneously 2010. This concern comes from the common assumption that the copyright date represents when the legal protection expires.

This is exactly opposite! In a copyright dispute, copyright is typically awarded to the person or organization that had the idea (or managed to execute it successfully) first. By changing the copyright in the footer to the current year, rather than the year that we actually launched, we would be weakening our claim to the RP Repository name and concept. Copyright is stronger when it goes back longer... Until it expires completely, but realistically, that will occur long after all of us die. At least those of us that are mortal.

RPR is now selling its own merchandise. DID YOU EVER THINK THIS WOULD HAPPEN WHEN YOU STARTED THE SITE? HOW DOES THAT MAKE YOU FEEL? Sanne

I always had fantasies about it, but I was never certain what was relevant enough to us. I once briefly looked into having special RPR dice made, but the cost was prohibitive. Not to mention our userbase is mostly composed of freeform RPers who don't use dice!

It's definitely of a dream come true to be selling RPR merchandise. I just hope sales go well! :D :D I am beyond excited every time I take a new batch to the post office, imagining people all over the world showing off their RPR pride. And I'm freaking out over the swag thread! Post MOAR PICTURES!

After groups are all SUPER DUPER SNAZZY, what's your next priority? Sanne

At the moment, my priorities after group are basically thus:
  1. Updating forums to drastically reduce lag,
  2. Revamping the PM system
    • Message threading ”“ so you can read a whole RP in one go.
    • Fixing bugs
    • Better categorization and folder management
  3. Smoothing out the new user experience and updating the help files
  4. Updating epic member features

Where's the "add comment" button? illantis
