Image "cleanup"

Posted by Kim on November 16, 2012, 2:11pm

More than 1500 images that were uploaded to the RPR were resized or recompressed this morning. Our filesize upload limits had been set too high for our own good, and we were about to run out of space on our little server! The file size upload limits have been adjusted downward, and images that were already uploaded that were excessively large have been scaled down to make sure we save some space for everyone.

The vast majority of the affected images still look great. However, if you had images in your gallery that involved animation or transparency, you may want to double check and see if the resizing added artifacts or removed animation.
If so, please feel free to do your own file size change and upload a version you're more happy with.

Thanks for your help and understanding in our continuing work to keep things running smooth and keep free accounts possible!

A friendly reminder: Artists are people too!
Please remember: Adding a note like "I do not claim credit for these images" is not a substitute for asking an artist's permission to use their images on your profiles. It just takes seconds, and can save you oodles of trouble down the road. So please, remember to extend basic courtesy to the people who create all those images that inspire you.

Hey Silver,

There's a thread on the forums about resizing images here.

Make sure you save a new copy, rather than overwriting the original, when you create your smaller version. :)
